Derwent Care Home is situated in the Derwent Valley, within the hamlet of Low Westwood immediately to the west of Hamsterley in County Durham. The River Derwent flows at the bottom of the valley, over which the care home benefits from wide-ranging and stunning views.

The care home offers residential care, dementia care and respite care. The modern and spacious home, located over three floors, has forty-four purpose-built and attractively decorated en-suite bedrooms.

Each floor has its own dining area and lounge spaces where residents can choose to relax. Residents and their visitors also benefit from a bright and uplifting conservatory, leading onto a secure balcony, with beautiful views over the valley.

In the local village, there is a regular bus service that commutes to nearby Consett, Newcastle city centre and the local Metro Centre which is one the largest shopping centres in the northeast. The village also has a post office, hairdressers and barbers, church (who the home work very closely with), a community centre and an Italian restaurant.

The GP surgery is situated along the road from the care home and they offer resident’s a weekly ward round as part of their service.

My mum has been a resident of Derwent Care Home for over three years. During this time she has been very well cared for. The staff go above and beyond to ensure her needs are met. They treat her as one of their family rather than a resident. The staff are very approachable and caring. The home is kept
very clean and overall there is a very welcoming atmosphere from the staff. I am happy that my mum is safe and even during the period of Covid restrictions I was able to enquire about her at any time and feel reassured. I highly recommend Derwent Care Home to anyone looking for first-class residential care.

This home is a lovely place and we are so happy to see our grandma comfortable and at ease. I would recommend Derwent Care Home to anyone in the future. The rooms are fab and the activities are fun for the residents to get involved with.

My mum became a permanent resident in November 2021. She has settled in great and I am so happy with the care she is given. The staff go above and beyond to cater for my mum's needs, and whenever I asked for anything done for my mum, they pull out all stops to do it, if it's doable. I recommend this
home to others whom I know are looking for their relatives.

I cannot recommend Derwent Care Home enough for the care they provide for my grandma. We were all heartbroken when making the decision that it was time for our grandma/mam to move into a care home and receive 24-hour care but it really feels like a home from home. The home is always spotlessly clean,
residents are provided with daily activities and staff are friendly and caring. My grandma is treated with the dignity we always hoped for and she has really settled in well.

The home is very clean. Our resident is always clean and clothes and bedding are changed daily. The staff are very caring. The food is varied and suits our resident's taste. Prompt medical attention is given if required.

I have only just been able to start attending the care home as Covid stopped us. There have been some changes, and my nan's room is decorated and lovely. I'm glad she has been so well looked after. I know she has missed us, but she has been kept busy. Thank you to all staff.

I and my mother were greeted on arrival and put at ease as we had to do lateral flow tests, we were assured that this is to keep the residents safe. We were then sent to the back entrance and told to put PPE on, this was so we didn't have to go through the home. We put PPE on in a little foyer before
being allowed in the home. I think this is a great setup as the residents are put first and aren't put at any undue risk. The visitors' room is right next to the rear entrance. The staff brought my dad down, it was great to see him as I haven't seen him for 9 months. Thank you!

Thank you to the brilliant staff who deserve more recognition for the fab care they provide. During the covid pandemic, it has been heartbreaking as a family not being able to visit my Grandma. However, the biggest comfort to us was knowing that she was being well cared for at Derwent Care Home. Having
visited regularly before the pandemic, we could trust and know that our loved one was receiving person-centred care by the brilliant staff who act in her best interests and go above and beyond, also maintaining a good relationship with my Grandad her husband.

The care home provides for my mother's every need. In what has been a difficult year, the staff have been excellent. I have been able to video call every with, and the activities have managed to keep my mum entertained and mainly alert.
