Just a short walk from the beautiful Cardiff Bay, Hallmark Shire Hall is a nautical-themed, luxury care home conveniently located close to the city centre. With a large, landscaped garden for residents to enjoy, a therapy dog named Archie, and various features within the home – including a social café, activities room, and traditional pub – Shire Hall is a place where residents thrive.

Moving into a new home is a significant moment in anyone’s life, but with a bighearted approach that puts residents and their loved ones at the centre of everything the team provides, easing into life at Shire Hall is a smooth transition. From the moment the team meet the resident and their family, they really get to know them; likes, dislikes, hobbies, and pastimes, all so they can support them to live fulfilled days. Plus, Hallmark All-Inclusive covers all residents' food, drink, and care needs, right down to their favourite biscuit.

The doors of Shire Hall are open day and night for loved ones to drop by for a home-cooked meal, a game of something fun in the lounge, or a gentle stroll around the gardens. However residents wish to spend their time, the team will make it happen.

A lovely place to live with caring staff and plenty of things for residents to do to keep occupied. My mother-in-law is very happy here and enjoys the atmosphere and the activities I couldn't ask for a better place for her to live in.

We are a life long friend to a resident who we visit quite often. We always have a wonderful welcome and a wonderful report on him. Every body likes our friend and he has a lot of lovely friends. By what we have seen of the home, everything is so clean and spotless. I would recommend it to anybody.

The nursing staff are always helpful and kind to my mother and you can see how happy my mother is both with her surroundings and with the way the staff treat her.

My mother has been in some different homes in the past, she has never settled any where apart from Shire Hall. She is more aware of her surroundings and interacts a lot more. The staff are amazing with the elderly and myself and family could not be happier that she is safe and secure.

The friendly, clean, caring atmosphere were what attracted me to this home, but I am most impressed by the range of activities, group and one to one offered to my step-mum. Time has been taken to get to know her personally, her likes and dislikes, and this has been shown in the range and quality of
activities she is included in. Staff on the floor, and reception are friendly, helpful and respectful and I am really pleased at how well my step-mum has settled her, thank you.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.914)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.914) out of 10 for Hallmark Shire Hall is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.914 for Hallmark Shire Hall is calculated as follows: ( (224 Excellents x 5) + (21 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 245 Ratings = 4.914
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hallmark Shire Hall is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 99 registered maximum number of service users is 19.8, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
