My brother appears to be well cared for. The carers are very kind, considerate, helpful and respect resident's privacy.
The food always appears to be appetising, nourishing and well presented and plentiful.
Residents are kept clean and nicely dressed. My only concern is that the ratio of carers to
residents at times appears to be inadequate, especially where a resident may be no longer able to walk without assistance, but does not remember this because of dementia.
Demands on carers can then leave the residents vulnerable and liable to fall.
Reply from Katie Price, Careline Advisor at Trafalgar Park Care HomeThank you for your review and we are pleased to hear that your brother seems well cared for and that the staff are kind, considerate and that the food is of a good standard. With regards to your concerns about staffing ratios at the home, these are regularly reviewed with the home manager according to the dependencies of the residents and are established accordingly. Please do not hesitate to contact the home manager if you would like to discuss anything further or would like to attend a review of your brother’s care.

Nan has been in the care home for a few months. I am very happy with how nan has settled in and they have made her feel and all of us part of the family.
Nan has come on leaps from not wanting to get up in the morning at home she now participates in all activities.
All the family are really pleased
with the care home and glad we chose this one.
Thank you all.

My nan came into this care home in March of this year, her Alzheimers was progressing quickly. My nan always been such an independent lady. Trafalgar Park Care Home is a perfect forever home. The staff are wonderful they support the residents with warmth, professionalism and humour. The new manager
is very efficient, understanding and professional. Her warmth shines through which is so comforting to residents and their families during difficult transitions in their health. Nan has settled so well and still maintains her independence and dignity.

My mum came into Trafalgar Park Care Home in June 2017. Despite my worries as mum came into care, all the staff have not failed to answer my questions and to put my mind at rest. Visitors are made welcome whenever they visit. All the staff are exceptionally kind and thoughtful with mum.

My nan has been at the care home since April 2017. We found it so upsetting that nan had reached the time when she needed care, it was difficult to find somewhere that ticked all our boxes. Trafalgar Park has done this, the standard of care is exceptional, residents are treated with dignity and respect,
are clean, well cared for and stimulated.
We have met the new home manager and she is warm, welcoming and has an open door policy.

The care in the above home is absolutely outstanding. They not only care for the resident but are sympathetic towards the family also, making them feel welcome at all times and understanding at difficult times. Safety of the residents was always their main concern. I felt that the staff there were part
of my family.

The care my mother has received over several years has been and continues to be first class. The staff are always helpful, polite and very professional. They always display a pleasant nature and always make me feel welcome when I visit my mother. In my opinion, the home is first class and the structural
improvements made recently have made a very positive difference.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.747)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.747) out of 10 for Trafalgar Park Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.747 for Trafalgar Park Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (183 Excellents x 5) + (44 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 233 Ratings = 4.747
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Trafalgar Park Care Home is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 52 registered maximum number of service users is 10.4, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

Introducing Thomas Roche
Home Manager at Aberpennar Court, Mountain Ash
What does ‘kindness’ mean to you?

“Making care person-centred and ensuring we do it properly; to the best standard and best of our ability.”

As a dedicated healthcare professional, Thomas has gained a wealth of experience in providing care and nursing support to elderly people, to enrich their lives. He is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest standards in care and quality of life for residents.

Thomas closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for each and every resident. He extends this caring approach to his colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to residents in a way that they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.

When asked about why he chose to work in the care sector, Thomas remarked:

“Everyone needs help sometimes. We've all been in periods of our lives where we need someone to help us, regardless of age. I feel privileged working in the care sector and giving people the help they need.”

Thomas talks about his proudest achievement when becoming a father and having to rebuild his house after severe flood damage on his own, finishing it three days before his son was born!

If you would like to find out more about Aberpennar Court, Thomas would be delighted to have an informal discussion with you to answer any questions and provide further information.
