At Murrayfield House Care Home residents have a choice of lounge areas which feature comfortable and specially designed furnishings or residents may choose to visit the café with friends or relatives.

Lovely welcoming home. Step-mother well looked after and safe. Managed to have coffee and tea provided in the private lounge area and so was like being in my step-mothers home. Very important to me that she feels like she is in a homely environment with friendly people around which is provided in this
home.

We have always found the care which is provided to residents to be of the highest quality. The staff are very attentive to individual needs both to residents and relatives. The rooms are bright and airy and the daily menu offers a generous choice of dishes. The many activities offer a wide choice to
residents overall, we would have no hesitation in recommending Murrayfield House for both residential and nursing care.

My mother had suffered a very severe stroke in November 2015 but was fortunate enough to get a place at the Murrayfield House Care Home, Edinburgh, in December 2015. The home had been recommended to me. Her 100th birthday was on the 8th of January 2016 and I was very worried about how my mother would
look and cope with the party, as family were coming from all over the world to help her celebrate. However the staff at Murrayfield House were fantastic and made her look very respectable, well dressed and comfortable in a reclining wheelchair. Murrayfield House had laid on a wonderful party in the ball room upstairs, It was better than I could have ever hoped for. Grateful thanks to all the staff.

My wife who is a dementia sufferer was discharged to Murrayfield House after a period in the hospital recovering from a viral infection. While she was being treated in hospital, I her sole carer, underwent a triple by pass operation. As I was unable to resume my caring duties while in rehabilitation
she was transferred to Murrayfield House as a respite case on 19th August 2015. In the 3 months she has been there, she has received excellent care and has regained her level of health prior to hospitalisation. The staff, facilities and nutrition are of the highest order. There are many activities organised which stimulate those suffering from dementia. I will have no hesitation in using these facilities on a respite basis in the future.

Mum was resident in Murrayfield House for 3 years until 16th December when she passed away aged 95. The care she received throughout this period was exemplary. The staff in Murrayfield House are so caring and professional. They clearly see their work as a vocation and not a job. They respected Mum's
dignity at all times but were still kind and loving. At the end I was there with 2 staff members. The end of life care was incredible. The staff nurse talked constantly to Mum in a gentle and reassuring way and eased her path from life. I cannot praise them highly enough.

Temp agency staff ranged from good to very poor. One was rude and surely I reported her to the full time carers and nurse.

We always try to fill shifts with our own staff however we do occasionally have to use agency staff for last minute shift cover. When we do have to use agency staff we only use reputable agencies that are registered with the care inspectorate. If any resident reports an issue with a member of agency staff we would then immediately report this to the agency to follow their own protocols on dealing with staff issues and ask that the member of staff does not return to Murrayfield House. We are currently recruiting staff to try to ensure we have adequate cover for staff absence due to annual leave and sickness.

the nursing and are provided to my dad during his recovery from hospital and then palliative care following the rapid deterioration in his health was excellent. Always very open and direct conversations and done with compassion and care. At the same time the care for my mother with dementia has been
excellent in both caring and emotional support as she stayed at the care home and them as my dads condition deteriorated. In summary the staff at Murrayfield are attentive, caring, open, supportive, kind and always positive.

My mother was here for respite for 18 days. Off the 18 days she was confined to her room for 10 days and was not allowed visitors as there was an outbreak of Norovirus. She has dementia and was moved to the secure unit several times to sit in their day room as she kept trying to leave via the fire
escape. The staff complained to me on the phone that this was very inconvenient as they were busy and they had to run down the drive to catch her. There was also one occasion when the staff would not let her come to the phone because of the norovirus. They told me there was no movement between the floors for staff to contain the outbreak yet it was okay for them to move my Mum. When we were shown around there was no mention of a secure unit or the fact my Mum might be placed there. Arts and crafts class consisted of a photocopy of a colouring in book of pictures of animals. My Mum got a picture of koalas to colour in. It was a disappointing experience for my Mum and for the family and has made us reluctant to seek further residential care. We had hoped that this would be a good experience for us all and to meet the future needs for my Mum.

Residents are assessed by one of the management team prior to a respite admission and a specific unit is allocated. On admission Residents will have their care needs re assessed by the care team who are supporting them on a daily basis. Where risks are assessed that were not present prior to admission the management team will try to reduce the risk and place the Resident in a safe environment for the remainder of their stay.


There is a full activities programme in each unit and Residents are encouraged to take part including outings.


When there is an outbreak of infection, precautions are taken to prevent the spread of infection and fortunately, the infection was contained.
