I attend Hallhouse Nursing Home to visit my friend. Resident W has a good rapport and 'banter' with the staff. I find all the staff to be friendly and helpful, and the activities arranged are good fun. The staff always make time to chat, and I am never afraid to ask questions. The new decor and flooring
in the hall is lovely and really brighten everything up.

I have visited the care home several times, travelling up from England to see my brother-in-law, Billy. Every time I have been there, the staff have made me feel so welcome and always go out of their way to make sure we have everything we need.

The care they give Billy is exceptional and, without

a doubt, they always put the residents first. My sister, who is there most days, is also very well looked after, and the staff are always there to support her too.

The home is maintained to the highest standard of hygiene, and not to mention the food, which I can only imagine tastes delicious.

Keep up the great work - you are all amazing.

My husband has been a resident at Hallhouse Care Home for over 2 years. During this time,
his health's deteriorated significantly. He is no longer mobile and completely dependent on staff for his care. Over the past year, all staff have consistently shown compassion and kindness, ensuring that he feels
safe, comfortable, and well cared for, even when his behaviour can be challenging. They have demonstrated remarkable patience and understanding, taking the time to get to know his likes/dislikes handling every situation with professionalism and empathy.
On a personal level, the staff have also supported me through what has been an incredibly
difficult and emotional journey. I often visit with my grandchildren, and cant thank the
office staff enough for being there to support them when they struggle with grandpa's illness.
Over the last year, redecoration has transformed the home, making it feel bright and very welcoming.
I have every confidence my husband is receiving excellent care.
Reply from Carol Barr, Manager at Hallhouse Care HomeDear Elizabeth,
thank you for taking the time to send in your very kind review of the staff, the care and support both you and your husband are receiving from the team. I will make sure I pass on your kind words to all the staff.

Whilst I acknowledge this review relates more to the parent company I felt people should be made aware.
My father passed away in December 2025 having been resident in the care home for 4 1/2 years. I have left a previous review for the care home and lodged complaints with the care commission so this
review surrounds Bellsize who own Hallhouse.
I have been fighting for monies owed to my father's estate which are being retained by Bellsize with no reason given other than processing times. I was initially informed it could take 90 days which in itself is disgraceful however 90 days have passed and I still haven't received the money owed.
Phone calls not being returned and emails ignored. I lodged a formal complaint over 2 weeks ago and despite a follow up email and 2 phone calls requesting someone phone me I have still had no confirmation, acknowledgement or correspondence in relation.
Not what you need after a bereavement and I would advise anyone to avoid this company.
Reply from Carol Barr, Manager at Hallhouse Care HomeThank you for your review and it was our pleasure to have supported your father at Hallhouse Care Home. We appreciate you bringing this matter to our attention and apologise for the inconvenience caused and especially at such a difficult time. Upon receiving your review we immediately escalated this matter to our Head Office and can confirm that monies owed have now been returned. Please do accept our deepest apologies and for highlighting this matter. Best wishes

Since arriving in Hallhouse Care Home have felt very welcome and supported. Have been encouraged to take part in activities and things going on in and out of the care home. If food was not to my liking, I feel comfortable to ask for an alternative.
The staff are kind and attentive to my needs.

I have reviewed Hallhouse previously for my mum, but this time I wish to review for my husband who had a respite stay a few months ago.
The care he received was excellent, he found all staff friendly, approachable and helpful. He was well fed and got plenty of tea to drink which really pleased him.
He
is a very quiet person and doesn't like to mix much, but he was asked everyday if he would like to participate in the daily activities, he was happy with the staff from care assistants , nurses, laundry and housekeeping always stopping in for a few moments when they were passing his room checking in that he fine.
I would not hesitate to have him in Hallhouse for respite in the future...x

My mum and dad moved into Hillhouse Care Home on the 18th December 2024, and both settled in really well. This is all down to the staff. Both have had a new lease of life, and that is down to all the activities the home puts on, from the men's club, women's pamper days and day trips out. I can't praise
the home and staff highly enough.

We have been very pleased with the care that has been given to our relatives. They have improved since being in the home. A good variety of activities & trips are planned every week which they participate in. There is always staff available to ask questions to. The staff keep us updated by phone if
they have had a fall or anything else relevant to our relatives. We have regular review meetings with one of the team who is involved in the care of our relatives. They also hold relative meetings for anyone to attend where they talk about staffing & planned work on the building etc. Hall house is very friendly & we are always made welcome when we visit. The home is always clean & fresh. We haven't found any negatives with Hall House since using the facility.

Since moving to Hallhouse Care Home my dad's physical and emotional health has turned around significantly.
He came to the care home from hospital and needed a zimmer to walk. He also was very depressed and lonely.
The staff have embraced him and his needs to such a high standard. He now does yoga
every Monday and takes part in all the activities and has made friends for the first time in years. He has attended social clubs, event days, boat trips and the residents go out regularly for afternoon tea and much more. He also loves the afternoon cake and coffee trolley and the tuck shop that has been introduced.
If any issues have arose, the staff have resolved them quickly. For instance when I was concerned that he was losing weight a food and fluid diary was promptly put in place and my dad given more encouragement at meal times.
We, as a family, have got the old dad back that we thought had been lost for good and we can't
thank the staff at Hallhouse enough.

We continue to be very happy with the service and level of care provided to our relative. The staff are kind and jolly with the residents and recent permanent additions to the staff have improved the service. The home is clean, warm and comfortable. Nurses have a good knowledge of the care required
by residents. There are plenty of opportunities for residents’ participation in activities. Communication with families and links with the wider community is improved. The manager has plans to improve the environment and facilities and has shared these at a group meeting for relatives. The home is showing an awareness of continuing improvement. We feel confident that our relative has good care at Hallhouse Care Home.

I am happy with the care my mother receives, however, I am not sure what (if any) stimulation, i.e activities and/or conversations she is getting on a daily basis. It is not a criticism of the staff, who seem to be stretched beyond belief, it is an observation.
I keep giving the same feedback every
time I complete these surveys but nothing ever changes,

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.478)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.478) out of 10 for Hallhouse Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.603 for Hallhouse Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (152 Excellents x 5) + (23 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) + (12 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 189 Ratings = 4.603
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.875 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hallhouse Care Home is based on 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.875
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 47 registered maximum number of service users is 9.4, which has been reached with 15 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
