Maycroft Manor provides a wonderful environment for its residents in terms of the physical space and facilities. With wide, tastefully decorated corridors and public areas and plush residential rooms, it has the feel of a top quality hotel rather than a home. The rooms are cleaned very regularly and
residents' laundry is collected and returned swiftly. All regular staff, whether they are cleaners, involved in the laundry service, maintenance personnel, activity staff, office staff or carers are friendly, helpful and responsive and show an interest in the residents, making them feel at home and cared for. My mum has been a resident for 20 months and is now very settled. An excellent activity programme has been reduced recently due to staffing issues and there seems to be an increase in agency carers who are strangers to the residents and less likely to be aware of their needs. Hopefully, this situation will improve in the near future and normal service will be resumed!

I was given the exact room I saw in the brochure when I walked in. The staff are my friends, not just people looking after you. The place is spotlessly clean and owners do everything possible for people's comfort. The Manager always listens and put things right if they go wrong. I have lived here for
four and a half years. This is the best home you can find in Brighton and Hove.

I have been very impressed by the staff at Maycroft Manor/ Their care, compassion and kindness I have observed towards residents is most reassuring.
My husband has been at Maycroft six months and from the first week, seemed settled and content.
Perhaps the visitors signing-in book could be placed
on reception to allow staff to remind visitors not to allow unaccompanied residents into the lift.
Reply from Roderick Ferguson, General Manager at Hallmark Maycroft ManorThank you for your comments. We have now ensured all visitors use the alternative lift available.

The nursing care at Maycroft Manor Care Home is excellent, the care team are very competent but miss guidance in helping residents with more complex issues. They are very good at day to day care but miss opportunities to assist residents in improving their quality of life.
Cleaning is poor rooms are
unsatisfactory and the dining rooms are disgraceful. Food quality and options have gone downhill in the last year.

I come to Maycroft Manor once each month to the "Dementia Cafe" I also come over weekly to meet a friend we have coffee and chat for a couple of hours during these times, we see the management and staff dealing with residents. We are overwhelmed by the cheerful, caring, loving, sympathetic, approach
to everyone. The rooms are lovely. I am also invited to other things. I.e Pancake day! Not one single thing comes to mind which would be a minus. I would love to be a resident here! I receive help and advice from management too!

My mother has found the transition from her home to Maycroft challenging but the staff have been caring and understanding. This organisation really seems to understand the needs of its residents and is keen to avoid the isolation that can occur. There is no feeling of being part of a large organisation.
It
has been an enormous relief to me that I know she is safe and being cared for.

My step mum has been at the home since it opened. She had a lovely bright airy room which she came to regard as her home. The treatment she received was excellent and she was very fond of many of the staff.
During her last eight days of her life after a sudden stroke, she was able to return to the
home and her room. Her care during these last days were wonderful. She died very peacefully with me her stepdaughter and her niece by her side,
We will always be so grateful for the wonderful care and support she received. We were also given the greatest support throughout her last days. Our families are very grateful for everything and send our heartfelt thanks.

I never envisaged that my fiercely independent mother would 'end up' in a care home and I know she certainly wouldn't have chosen this future for herself in her pre-dementia days.
It was an agonising decision to make but as my mother's condition worsened our options became limited. After an extensive
search of care homes with dementia facilities we found Maycroft Manor right on our doorstep and once we set foot inside we knew this was the only place we felt comfortable with.
From day one we were welcomed by friendly and competent staff into a lovely, clean and stimulating environment which helped to keep back the tears. My mother has taken a while to settle and still goes through good and bad patches but she is safe and comfortable, she has attentive and friendly staff around her and engaging activities to take part in.
She is a sociable person so I am reassured that she is never lonely and there is routine and structure to her day which is important for this condition.

My aunt has been a resident at Maycroft for over three years and her care has been excellent throughout.
The staff are all very considerate and caring, nothing is too much trouble. The staff are also consistent, the home retains staff and so the residents are greeted by familiar and friendly faces,
which makes a huge difference to the residents general well-being.
My aunt knows all the care staff and having that relationship makes her more comfortable and settled.
The care home is a new build, so is very well designed with respect to those who are less mobile and it also has a fresh and new feel to it, more like a hotel than a residential home.
The food continues to be a high standard, three meals a day plus afternoon tea served in the bistro with freshly made cake and biscuits, or fresh fruit if preferred. I would definitely recommend this care home.

The care my mother receives is excellent. Staff are professional, painstaking and take an interest in residents. The care home is attractive and there is a varied programme of activities. Communication is usually good, although there have been occasions when messages and/or requests have not been passed
to the appropriate people.
The fees are high and annual increases significantly outpace inflation.
I have every confidence that my mother is in safe and attentive hands.

Overall I am impressed with the care afforded to my mother over the last 2 and a half years. There have been certain administrative lapses from time to time and a high staff turnover has affected continuity. However, the staff are unfailingly pleasant and caring and the atmosphere of the home is always
welcoming.

The standard of care is generally very high. Staff turnover is reasonably low and the care provided is consistent. Communications between relatives and management could be improved as could communication internally between colleagues and departments.

For example, neither my brother nor I know who

is the "go to" person responsible for our Mother's care. An organisation chart showing where responsibilities lie and with contact details would be very helpful.

I would recommend Maycroft Manor care home to anyone looking for a care home. The buildings and gardens are well kept and all the communal spaces are open to all. The provision of a Bistro cafe on the ground floor is a great space for residents, relatives and visitors to share and provides a good welcome.
The residents' rooms are very good and can be made to feel like home with their own possessions.
The staff are all very caring and friendly and all undergo training. There is also a weekly plan of activities that residents can participate in at their leisure.
There are sometimes problems with communication but there is an atmosphere of being open and staff and management are always available to listen and discuss any issues.
My mother has been there for two years and we have been, in general, very happy.

Providing care for people with poor health conditions can be tricky as the resident may not always be clear about their needs. Maycroft builds great relationships with the resident's family and is attentive and reactive to family concerns. The overall atmosphere is one of kindness, care, positivity
and happiness. It is an excellent care home.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.669)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.669) out of 10 for Hallmark Maycroft Manor is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.862 for Hallmark Maycroft Manor is calculated as follows: ( (206 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 224 Ratings = 4.862
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.807 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hallmark Maycroft Manor is based on 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.95
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 105 registered maximum number of service users is 21. 18 Positive Reviews ÷ 21 = 0.857
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
