Cannot fault this care home. The staff were so caring and understanding and management were great. The home itself was great. I could not believe how good this place was after looking at other places. It was unbelievable. The care my husband had was excellent. I cannot thank them enough for the
care my husband had before he passed away.

Excellent all the way.

I reviewed the care home very positively in 2015 when we moved my mother-in-law in, noting that she was well cared for and treated with dignity. Unfortunately, I would no longer recommend the home, for a resident with dementia.

We were told that they’d meet her needs up to and including death, but

in Sept. 2016 they asked her to leave as they were no longer able to meet her needs. The issue was not violent/unmanageable behaviour, simply a matter that should have been managed by competent carers (she was uncooperative with bathing—common in those with dementia). We also noted a decline in the overall level of care/home cleanliness etc by that stage. After moving her to another nearby facility, carers were able to manage her without any issues, and the level of care was superior. We would not have left the care home if not forced out, but in hindsight, it was the best for all involved.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Marketing Support Administrator at Priors HouseWe are sorry to hear that Priors House no longer meets your expectations. In this situation, the home manager made the decision that we could no longer meet your mother-in-law's needs as the level of support she requires has changed significantly. On occasion, we have to make this difficult decision for the best interests of both the individual in question and other residents in the home and to ensure everyone continues to receive the care they need. At the time, we did recognise that housekeeping was not to the standard we expect at the home but this has now been resolved and a much-improved service has been in place for some time. Thank you for taking the time to share your views and we wish your mother-in-law the very best at her new home.

The staff are so caring. You always feel they have the time for you, either as a visitor or resident. The Vera Lyn tribute act recently (20th March) was a fantastic example of this with all staff dressed in period clothing. The day was uplifting for all and many residents are still feeling the "buzz
" a month later.

Priors House says they set a new standard in 24hour care, a tall order, however, we have seen that in every area this is true. From the initial contact of assessment in my mothers home, through to my mother coming into Priors House, without exception, it has been faultless.
So caring, kind, thoughtful
and professional to my mother's every need.
The place is spotless and you feel every member of staff is working at their best.
Truly amazing and we feel very blessed that our mother/grandmother is in such an outstanding home.

Priors House cared for my husband until he died. They operate very professionally but with so much care. It is like a large extended family. Everyone knows you, everyone speaks to you by first name. This network of people from laundry to maintenance to chefs, carers, nurses, administrators all gel like
jigsaw pieces. You are treated with dignity as an individual with total compassion and a lot of laughs. It could never replace home but you won't come closer.

She is looked after very well by a fantastic team of people who made her life comfortable, safe and happy. She is eating very well, stimulated by good wholesome food, which is probably one of the most important aspects. She is also able to get around freely on the ground floor and if the weather allows
has direct access from her room to the garden.

Priors House provided my father with every care and assistance he needed. The carers were always polite and caring (even in the most difficult circumstances) The catering and laundry service were also excellent, as was the cleanliness all around the building. I would thoroughly recommend Priors House

Used Priors House for two weeks respite to enable mum to visit us over Christmas. Very friendly welcome on phone and every time we arrived. Layout good for her to get to know quickly. Activities varied and several suited this very picky lady who hates bingo! Foyer café excellent for "normalising" entertaining
her visitors. Cinema comfortable and gave much better experience than just being in front of TV. All day staff lovely - initial glitch over not showering daily but they were at pains to tell me once this was sorted out.
Considering the short time she was there, they made a lot of effort to get to know her needs. Made huge effort to have her ready for an early pick up in time for church on Christmas Day. All staff greeted her by name at all times. Food excellent, even for this picky eater. It is expensive, but worth it for immaculate facilities.

My wife has been a resident since 5th August 2016 after suffering a stroke in March of this year. Spent 6 weeks in hospital and a few months in another care home. Not only myself but friends and relatives who have visited here have been astonished and pleasantly pleased with the home itself, the friendly
service of the staff and quality of care. A common comment is "Just like a 5-star hotel".

A wonderful place for my mother to convalesce after her heart operation. The staff were amazing - so supportive, caring and kind. Nothing was too much trouble. Everybody had time to talk to mum and everything was done to make her feel at home. She loved the art classes and quizzes with the leaders being
very encouraging.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.791)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.791) out of 10 for Priors House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 37 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.791 for Priors House is calculated as follows: ( (357 Excellents x 5) + (53 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (4 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 422 Ratings = 4.791
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Priors House is based on 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 80 registered maximum number of service users is 16, which has been reached with 36 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I managed care homes before I joined Care UK and was even an area manager, overseeing a number of homes. I’ve also worked as a ‘turnaround manager’ – helping care homes to gain regulatory compliance – so I’ve lots of experience in care homes.

There’s a lot to do when you’re a home manager, but the best bit is having a coffee with the residents and chatting with them. When I can I also join in with activities because it’s wonderful seeing residents enjoying themselves – after all, that’s why we do what we do. I love seeing happy residents living fulfilling lives in our warm and friendly home.
