I think the clue is in the title - care home.
I found every member of staff from top to bottom to be caring and helpful. They are a real team.
My husband has been totally safe and well cared for, and his general health has improved.

My mother came in for four weeks of respite care, it was a difficult decision for us as a family, but all the staff from reception to carers have made this much easier. The love and care they have shown my mother has been exceptional.
I would not hesitate to bring her back here for care in the future.

I was so impressed with the professional standard of nursing care that my friend received at Gracewelll of Edgbaston. Just as impressive was the kindness and consideration shown by all the staff not only to the patient but, also to the friends who were supporting her. We felt the staff really cared
about my friend even though they had only known her for a short time, and we also felt they cared about us.

It has been a pleasure seeing Mum smile and happy knowing she was in excellent hands. We, her daughters, can't say enough positive words to describe our and Mum's experience in this care home. Special thanks to the staff on reception. These 4 amazing women made our Mum's stay a comfortable and enjoyable
time, so much so that Mum doesn't want to go home. Huge thanks to Gracewell! Words can't describe our and Mum's excellent time there....and the delicious hot chocolate we all loved drinking, especially our Mum.

The care and support the nursing team at Gracewell gave my mom was excellent.

Mom moved to Gracewell from an (eab) bed on 21/12/18. From the moment she arrived was a completely different person. The last days of her life in Gracewell's care were some of her best for many months and for that we are

grateful. The team at Gracewell are all amazing.

The facilities are outstanding and the resident's needs are catered for at every level. My mom needed nursing care and without exception everyone involved in mom's care was excellent. For me, Gracewell set the standards that all organisations should aspire to when looking after vulnerable residents.

I wish mom could have spent longer here but she passed away suddenly. Gracewell gave her her spark back. We are all taking huge comfort knowing that in her last days she got her dignity back and her smile back and that was down to amazing facilities at Gracewell but also their amazing team.

After a previous break down from another provider, we were apprehensive to put our faith in another home. Feeling disheartened at the thought that we somehow had to settle with the standard that so many homes had that we viewed. Then we found Gracewell! This home is in a league of its own. Everything
you ever dream of for your loved one is right here.
Facilities have to be seen to be believed. Level of cleanliness is phenomenal. The food is cooked to an amazingly high standard by on-site chefs. The range of activities is amazing! And most importantly the standard of care is 5 star!
What really stands out to me is the genuine love that the staff have for each of the residents. There is a continuous feeling of calm and happiness around the home. High staff morale is evident throughout. The whole management team make it their priority to make sure things are just right, for both the residents and families. Gracewell has certainly restored our faith and for that, we are forever grateful.

From my first impression of this care home, it offered what you would expect from what their system highlighted. Incorporating many excellent principles that will endeavour the family aspiration. Their duty to care is in evidence. From my observation, the management was always available to meet the
resident's wellbeing. The communication was outstanding with all of the added pressure of the enhanced running of this care home. We do appreciate, as a family, the harmonious love that is exhibited by all concerned in it's running is most pleasing.

My brother has been at Gracewell for a month and we couldn't be happier with the care and support shown by all the staff.

My mother has taken a while to settle down in Gracewell as she had never imagined expecting to be so dependant on others, non-family members. Having said this she has settled in, enjoys the activities, meals and attention of day staff. If she had a complaint it would be around the staffing ratio at
night-time.
She is often left, uncomfortably, in soiled underwear due to understaffing. This said two or three of the night staff are exceptionally accommodating.
Wandering residents have become a problem recently - very poor.

There is a very friendly, caring atmosphere in the home. All the staff are approachable and caring, communicating in a professional manner and attentive to my husband and my needs.
The food is very good, very well presented with good variation in meals.
It is difficult to access staff once the receptionist
is off duty - only negative comment.
Overall I feel my husband is in a safe, caring environment and I am greatly assured by this and my mind is at rest.

I have found, as a visitor to Gracewell, a warm welcome on all occasions. Concerns addressed in telephone calls were responded to promptly, cheerfully, and thoroughly and with great concern for the well being of the client and I am extremely grateful that there was easy access to speak to staff at all
times.
The staff have done their utmost to help and to provide a safe, friendly, caring environment which is appreciated but due to the complexity of nursing so many with limited nurses and some very needy clients, there have been a few nursing issues. However, my biggest appraisal has to be that if I were to come to Gracewell as a client I would be confident that I would be receiving the best.

The welcome and friendliness of the staff is good and reassuring. The services on offer are wide-ranging and well thought out to appeal to everyone. The rooms are excellent and the food is well prepared for each person.
Respite care is a difficult service to provide as each client has individual needs
and often has a normal and active brain but is restricted by their physical condition.
Although the staff made a great effort to accommodate my friend, too little was known about her condition and it's specific needs. Prompt attention is not always possible but often when my friend needed this response it was lacking.
Other basic needs like the use of a commode, hoists etc, are more difficult to match for respite care but if a procedure can be negotiated with a patient from the start of the stay it can help to build a relationship.
I would recommend Gracewell to others looking for a nursing home but ask that the respite service could be more finely tuned to the needs of those using it.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.851)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.851) out of 10 for Edgbaston Manor is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 40 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 38 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.851 for Edgbaston Manor is calculated as follows: ( (423 Excellents x 5) + (25 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (4 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 464 Ratings = 4.851
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Edgbaston Manor is based on 38 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 70 registered maximum number of service users is 14, which has been reached with 38 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

At Edgbaston Manor, teamwork is at the heart of everything we do. We support each other to provide the highest standards of care and to make our home a happy, welcoming place for residents and families alike. My door is always open if you’d ever like to share any feedback or simply have a chat.

I’ve been a Registered Nurse for more than 18 years and have more than 12 years of experience working in care homes. Throughout my career, I’ve learned that being a good manager means leading with compassion, patience and resilience, while supporting everyone in the home to do their very best.

Outside of work, I love spending time with my family, especially my daughter, and visiting my favourite place in the world, Cornwall.
