From the day of admission to the present date, the care and treatment in all aspects of the Gracewell of Edgebaston Care home have been, without exception, above any form of adverse criticism. The atmosphere is cheerful and quietly and efficiently relaxed.

My mom has been at this nursing home for two years and she loves being there.
The staff and management are all very kind, attentive to my mom's needs and above all very professional. I visit the home quite often when mom is having her meals, and it always looks and smells delicious.
The home always
smells fresh and pleasant, and always looks clean and tidy, which I imagine takes some doing.
Overall, my mom is very happy there, she is well looked after, cared for and is safe at the home, both staff and management have always got time for my mom and my family when we visit.
When I pass the lounge there is always an activity taking place, that always looks interesting or sounds like great fun for the residents.

It has been a very difficult decision to place my mother in long-term residential care. On viewing care homes, it was important to view them through my mother's eyes.
Would she be comfortable here? Is this a place I want to see her in during her twilight years? Would she be treated with dignity and
respect?
Gracewell offered a new concept of care that I had not experienced whilst in my pursuits. The concept of 'living well' and providing a calm and caring environment that was adult-focused, with the highest quality of care. One can be blinded by the ambience as the facilities are quite spectacular, however, it is the heart and commitment of the staff that truly shines through. My mother, on entering was hospitalised for a substantial period of time. Gracewell has provided a new lease of life and optimism for her and our family.

My sister-in-law has been at Gracewell for 2 years with Vascular Dementia and for the last two months my brother (her husband), following a complete collapse due to chemotherapy, has been admitted.

I have been extremely challenged by the patience, love and wonderful care the staff have shown to them

- nothing has been too much trouble. I would like to thank them all for the way in which they go 'beyond the realms of duty', in order to provide fantastic tender love and care.

The home was not suitable for my mother-in-law as it was too modern for her, as it was clinical and like a hotel. It was not cosy enough for her.

A lovely place, and very helpful in finding dad a respite place at short notice.
All of the staff are extremely professional, but more importantly, ultra nice.
They consistently demonstrate that they care, and treat the residents like family.

The care the residents receive is outstanding.
Residents are encouraged to do things for themselves but staff are always there to reassure and take over when needed.
Residents are always happy and sad when it's time to leave.
The staff go beyond their working role and will take time out to make sure
anyone who has to go back to hospital gets visited by a familiar face.
Visiting on a regular basis has been an enjoyable experience.

There was a lovely sing-a-long with plenty of memory prompts and interaction. We sang songs from the shows and films and had a lovely range of instruments to add to the fun. It was gently paced, birthdays were remembered and anniversaries remembered with the Anniversary Waltz. There was even a little
bit of dancing and actions to songs. Staff were present to assist and encourage movement through clapping or playing percussion. Everyone's name was included in a lovely welcome song. A really lovely time.

Arriving at Gracewell after extensive surgery to my leg the staff handled my specific needs most professionally. The quality of care and the happy relaxed and homely atmosphere certainly aided my recovery - group from none weight bearing to walking normally again.

A big thank you to everyone. A senior

carer said "your room is your home". How true this was, which made feel me very welcome. Just the reassurance I needed.

The care and attention my nan has received whilst staying at Gracewell Edgbaston has been exceptional. The difference in my nan's mood and enthusiasm for life has been noticeably improved and she is the best she has been in 3years.
This would not have been possible, had the staff here not shown compassion,
care and welcomed her into Gracewell.
It has put our minds at rest that residential care is the right place for nan.

I moved to Gracewell for care and company as I have macular degeneration and can no longer see very well. My husband who is receiving care has Alzheimer's and was already living here, so now we are together again, and we celebrate our 61st wedding anniversary this month. I love my room. It feels like
home and I am very happy to be here.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.851)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.851) out of 10 for Edgbaston Manor is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 40 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 38 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.851 for Edgbaston Manor is calculated as follows: ( (423 Excellents x 5) + (25 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (4 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 464 Ratings = 4.851
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Edgbaston Manor is based on 38 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 70 registered maximum number of service users is 14, which has been reached with 38 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

At Edgbaston Manor, teamwork is at the heart of everything we do. We support each other to provide the highest standards of care and to make our home a happy, welcoming place for residents and families alike. My door is always open if you’d ever like to share any feedback or simply have a chat.

I’ve been a Registered Nurse for more than 18 years and have more than 12 years of experience working in care homes. Throughout my career, I’ve learned that being a good manager means leading with compassion, patience and resilience, while supporting everyone in the home to do their very best.

Outside of work, I love spending time with my family, especially my daughter, and visiting my favourite place in the world, Cornwall.
