Eastbourne House is warm and welcoming, the staff are very committed in their care of the residents.
Having a family member resident here, after visiting I can leave feeling safe in the knowledge that my mother is in safe hands.

Can't thank the staff at Eastbourne House enough for making my mum's week of respite care so special for her while work was being done on her house.
We're waiting for a room to become available so mum can stay there on a permanent basis.

I chose Eastbourne House after visiting. My wife needed respite from a number of stressful incidents over a couple of years. It seemed sensible to give her a break and for me to be cared for during her absence. I am disabled and she has been a consistent support for me.
Eastbourne House is a delightful
property, clean, tidy and well looked after. The staff are friendly, helpful and good fun.
The meals are good (with one exception) and the entertainment is well thought through.

Staff have spoilt Mother’s Day for our family today. Arranged to take my mother out, my sister had notified staff of this arrangement on Saturday. Arrived at 11:30 with my wife, signed in as normal and collected mother, said goodbye to the staff member on the top floor, on leaving signed my mother out
in the book at front door 11:40. Later staff contacting family members to ask where my mother was, were about to call the police. Informed my sisters that no one had signed my mother out and they assumed she was missing.
Arrived back at 15:30 went to find a staff member in charge. Completely understand that mistakes can be made, but was not expecting when I spoke to her on the top floor to be accused of not signing my mother out and when I said I had, to be told then I should have informed staff, which I also did. Perhaps what would have been more appropriate would have been to have had an apology when we arrived back. Only on leaving did they admit that they had only checked the signing in/out book at the back door.

Staff are amazing. They all care for Mam as if she was their own mother. It's the little things they do that make a difference and they are well managed and actively encouraged to engage with the residents and their family. The social activities planned ensure residents are cared for mentally and socially
too. I cannot speak highly enough of the staff, from the domestic staff to the manager. When I am away from Mam I can relax in the knowledge she is safe, well cared for and even loved.

Although I have long-standing medical conditions, I do not need regular care but times when I do need a little bit of TLC, it has been available.
I do mix with residents and activities very regularly so I am able to observe the care and attention my fellow residents receive and I do worry that the
staff are overworked due to the severity of the medical or psychiatric states of the residents.

The staff went above and beyond the care provided during mum's stay at Eastbourne House, until her passing on 25th September 2018. We cannot thank them enough for the dignity, respect and good humour. They are truly a wonderful group of staff and an asset to HC-One. You should be very proud of them

We cannot thank the staff enough for the care and kindness shown to my mother-in-law and to the family since she moved from her own home to Eastbourne House after the death of her husband.

The staff have tome to chat to the residents which is very important for my dad. It's great that regular activities are organised, also the daily newssheet and themes.
My only criticism is that my dad sometimes has dirty clothes on 2 days in a row - is there any way his clothes could be checked at
night or morning? Also, he needs help putting denture adhesive on his teeth. 10/10 to staff - always positive, upbeat and helpful.

I am very pleased with the care my father receives. He now has problems with choking due to Parkinson's disease and the home have worked hard to ensure that his pureed food is still well presented and appetising. His room is always spotless and smells fresh and clean. But most importantly, the care
staff really do care. They are kind, pleasant and always helpful even on those days when they are under pressure.

My father has been a resident at Eastbourne House since October 2017. My greatest wish is for dad to be HAPPY. I also want him to be respected and well cared for. He was lonely at home so craves company. All my wishes for dad have been met. The staff, management right down to cleaning staff have been
friendly and brilliant with dad sho so much appreciates all they do for him, plus their friendship, He is HAPPY.

Recently my father, a resident in Eastbourne House, was having problems with his eyes. A doctor referred him to the eye clinic in Newcastle. The management had three options. 1, to call the doctor and ask him to arrange patient transport. 2, to call either myself or my sister and know/ask us to make
arrangements to get him transport. 3, to call a taxi service to take him. They chose option 3 and then proceeded to pass the expense of their decision on to my father. I and my siblings found this inappropriate.

It is a great relief to our family that Dad is now in a safe and comfortable environment. From our first visit, the front of house staff give everyone a warm welcome and are very friendly. My husband has recently spent a period of respite on Eastbourne House. I cannot praise the home enough for the care and attention my husband received throughout his stay. The staff from management to care staff and support workers were all extremely professional and helpful at all times. The home is
pleasant and well-maintained throughout and they do their best to provide a range of activities. I would recommend Eastbourne House to anyone.

It's a nice environment. Staff show interest in my mother and what I think about the care.
They encourage engagement in group activities. My mother seems to have a good rapport with the staff.


There have been occasional impatience from carers in relation to lack of mobility of my mother.
Some

communication issues between staff regarding the latest recommendation from the district nurse in relation to her pressure sore.

Staff work very hard. They listen to you and do their best to address any questions, comments and concerns as quickly as possible. Staff are extremely caring and kind to my relatives. What does ‘kindness’ mean to you?


“For me, kind care means showing empathy, dignity and diplomacy in everything we do.”
Debbie has gained over 25 years’ experience in providing care and support to older people, to enrich their lives. She is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest standards in care and quality of life for Residents.
Debbie closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for each and every Resident. She extends this caring approach to her colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to Residents in a way that they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.


She also works hard to arrange events and activities with nearby schools and clubs and is always keen to include the local community in life at Eastbourne House.


When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Debbie remarked: “The most rewarding part of my job is definitely having the opportunity to make a difference to our Residents’ lives.”
Away from work, Debbie enjoys spending time with her family, especially on their caravan holidays.
