The Lindsay is a care home offering nursing, residential, dementia and palliative care.

Short stays and day care are offered to help both carers and their elderly loved ones at times when they need a break or a little extra support.

Rated 'Good' by the CQC (August 2025), The Lindsay is situated a few minutes from the centre of Westbourne and all its amenities – shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs. The home has a cinema and café as well as lounges, a library and private dining areas for family and friends to come and enjoy when visiting their loved ones or celebrating a birthday or anniversary together.

This home also benefits from an onsite beauty salon, with a full-time hairdresser offering a brilliant service to all the residents.

At The Lindsay, staff take great care to focus on the person. It’s important for residents to feel at home, so it creates a friendly environment with an individually appropriate balance of care and independence.

I stayed at The Lindsay for two weeks post operative care and it was a sensible decision on my part. I was treated with sympathetic care, accorded respect and dignity. I was given space to recover and made good friends with both staff and residents. Thank you all so much.

My sister went to The Lindsay for two weeks' respite for my husband and I to take a holiday. She has been to The Lindsay before and thoroughly enjoyed her stay, so was very happy to return. The staff are very efficient and kind to her. She can't wait to return.

I am very happy to recommend The Lindsay Care Home to anyone seeking compassionate and professional care for their loved one. The staff are very friendly and caring, and always treated my mother with respect. They maintained her sense of dignity throughout her stay and treated her as though she was
part of a wider family. Even though there were times when visiting was not possible due to the pandemic, I always felt confident that she was in safe hands.

The Lindsay has an overall atmosphere of friendliness and care amongst the staff. The ground floor facilities look excellent and I look forward to the residents being enabled to enjoy them. This is a difficult time for me, having lost my wife from our home and I know that you will care for her well.

Difficult to assess due to lockdown, but many of Mum's personal belongings such as photographs are missing since we were last allowed to visit rooms. Christmas present that were sent in seems to be missing too such as a cardigan and blouse. Shame garden facilities can't be used and shortage of parking
spaces. Realise this can't be addressed, but perhaps something to be considered for future homes.

My mum has been in The Lindsay since July 2018. I can honestly say, Mum, is so content and happy at The Lindsay. She has a lovely room with all her special items around her. All the staff are caring and very supportive to residents and family members, which I find so reassuring. The activities are fun
and keep everyone busy and entertained; they’re a great team, like all the other departments. During this last year, it has been very hard for everyone, not being able to see Mum like before was so difficult, but everyone at The Lindsay made it possible to Skype, go in the pod and from today, I had a room visit, which was amazing and so emotional. Thank you to the home manager and all staff for making The Lindsay home from home.

Ian Dunthorne

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2024

My name is Ian and I joined The Lindsay as home manager in December 2024.


I live locally to the home although I am from Bedfordshire originally.


My mother was a home carer for the local authority and then a warden controlled village, which first introduced me to the world of elderly care. I then worked as a care assistant for the local authority myself and became interested in rehabilitation aspects of geriatric care and this led me to train as a physiotherapist. I made a departure from clinical physiotherapy and returned to geriatric residential care management.


I worked as a home manager for Bupa for 7 years before moving to New Zealand and subsequently worked as a general manager for Bupa New Zealand for 11 years. As I got older, I felt the pull to return to my home country and moved back to the UK towards the end of 2024.


My passion is travel. I have been lucky enough to travel widely around the world and this is the basis for most of my interests and passions outside of work.

I first joined BUPA in June 2024. I have previously worked within activities and for the last 19 years have been a Care Home Manager. I have a passion for caring for others, specifically for caring for those with dementia. I am a dementia care trainer and also a Dementia Friends Ambassador! Earlier on in my career, I worked as a TV studio administrator producing motivational and corporate videos. After I had my children, I returned to work as a teaching assistant followed by temporary roles as a receptionist.


I particularly enjoy caring for people and making them feel as happy as I can. I enjoy the interaction with residents and their families as well as doing administrative work.


I live locally with my English Pointer dog and two cats. My daughter is local so I see a lot of her. My son lives near Southampton and also has a Pointer.


I love to see friends and family and I enjoy walking, gardening, holidays and the beach.
