The Lindsay is a care home offering nursing, residential, dementia and palliative care.

Short stays and day care are offered to help both carers and their elderly loved ones at times when they need a break or a little extra support.

Rated 'Good' by the CQC (August 2025), The Lindsay is situated a few minutes from the centre of Westbourne and all its amenities – shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs. The home has a cinema and café as well as lounges, a library and private dining areas for family and friends to come and enjoy when visiting their loved ones or celebrating a birthday or anniversary together.

This home also benefits from an onsite beauty salon, with a full-time hairdresser offering a brilliant service to all the residents.

At The Lindsay, staff take great care to focus on the person. It’s important for residents to feel at home, so it creates a friendly environment with an individually appropriate balance of care and independence.

My wife and I have found The Lindsay Care Home to be excellent in every respect. Staff and management can only be described as 'top drawer' - roll on the day Lindsays delicious coffee and cake can be enjoyed once more. Lockdown means that communication is limited to behind glass. However, covid-19 will
ultimately end and we can enjoy our normal visiting routine once more. Thank you Lindsay for all you do for our loved one.

My father went into the care home for a short break but got caught by the COVID-19 outbreak. The staff have been extremely caring to my father, and who has built up a great rapport with all the staff. The family have appreciated the contact with Father over the past few weeks and especially the interaction
via Skype. We regularly see photographs of Father and the other residents, clearly enjoying the interactive and creative entertainment programme, from dancing and singing, to ice creams in the garden, a sweet trolley and the VE celebrations.
Whilst it has been a worrying time for all families during the lockdown, it has been a great comfort to my mother, sister and I that Father is being kept safe and is so contented in the circumstances. Thank you to all the team.

On arrival from hospital I was welcomed warmly but advised that because of coronavirus I would be quarantined in my room for fourteen days. The room was light and airy with a view to keep me happy during the quarantine. The care was excellent. The staff all well trained and attentive to every need,
without exception. The garden is accessible and pleasant to sit or walk or participate in activities run by very fit staff.

The Lindsay has been a lifesaver for me and my dad. I found it in crisis, and my dad went in as an emergency admission. This process was handled so kindly, reassuringly and professionally by the manager from my first call to emergency assessment/admission but it has turned out to be the best place for
him. The way residents are looked after, cared about and cared for is exceptional. Staff are so kind, whatever role they are in, and work together as a strong team, clearly dedicated to what they do. They not only care for, but love my dad, and this is clear in every interaction they have with him. There is such a strong sense of community and family there. Even if my dad has his ups and downs, which is the nature of his dementia, I never doubt the care that he is receiving as the high standard of this is so consistent and tangible. I have so much gratitude and respect for everyone at The Lindsay, especially in these times where they continue to work so hard to keep all safe. Thank you.

A heartfelt "thank you" to all staff at The Lindsay who work very hard to look after my darling Mum, contributing to tasty meals, ensuring The Lindsay looks so spick and span, keeping the lights on and all working, providing clean clothes etc. The phone welcoming all admin and management, providing
engagement and caring for Mum's personal hygiene, appearance and holistic health. Not the easiest job the world - it brings particular stresses and calls for a level of caring that's special. Then you deal with the stresses of COVID-19 at work while maintaining your usual high standards of care and providing residents and us with calm reassurances and cheeriness, plus you have to deal with the concerns and effects of this virus situation in your own lives. So a particularly huge "thank you" to all, with my respect, admiration and gratitude - especially now. I know that my darling Mum receives the very best of care and nothing is too much trouble, everything you do is greatly appreciated.

My father spent the final month of his life in The Lindsay and received care over and above any expectation I may have had. He was treated with respect and dignity and myself and my mother both felt he was in the very best place and being looked after by the kindest of staff, as were we.

The care and dignity afforded to my grandad has been wonderful. He is able to make personal decisions when he has had much of his autonomy removed due to vascular dementia, this is so important to him and he so well cared for. The staff are so kind to him, he is very well cared for and he is treated

The Lindsay Care Home were my saviour in a dark place. I’m 24 years old and my 49-year-old mother's condition drastically worsened last year and she was in hospital for seven months. After viewing multiple care homes, I met the most compassionate, caring person in the manager, who took me under her
wing and reassured me she would do everything she could to help and she did. The Lindsay Care Home and all staff have been incredible, it smells amazing, the food is fantastic and they really care about my mum's needs. I couldn’t ask for a better place for my mum to feel safe and looked after.

My stepmother has been at The Lindsay Care Home for 12 months now after the death of my father last March. She has settled in very well and enjoys many of the activities. She's become very friendly with the staff and enjoys a laugh and a joke with them despite her "sarcastic" manner and I can return
home to Derby knowing she is being looked after with care and dignity.

My husband has received excellent care in a warm friendly environment. All the staff treat him with respect and the atmosphere at The Lindsay is welcoming but equally professional. I am also always greeted daily with open arms. I cannot find any faults and he would agree with me if he could fill in
this form (he is 94).

When entering The Lindsay, you can just sense what a lovely care home The Lindsay is. The manager and staff are so caring and compassionate, nothing is too much trouble for them. The facilities and activities are excellent, my friend likes the trips out and she especially likes the singing and dancing,
she always has a smile on her face which is lovely to see. The food is excellent and the staff don't mind if you want to stay for lunch with your relative. Would highly recommend.

Lovely care home. My mother is very happy here. It's so clean, the care she gets is excellent and she enjoys the food. Before she came here in May, she wasn't eating much and now has put on a bit of weight which is so good.

The pleasant atmosphere of The Lindsay welcomes family member and visitors.
There are many varied events and activities. The Christmas decorations were very beautiful. The cleanliness is excellent and most importantly, the care and kindness from the staff is second to none. My father is 94 and is better

Ian Dunthorne

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2024

My name is Ian and I joined The Lindsay as home manager in December 2024.


I live locally to the home although I am from Bedfordshire originally.


My mother was a home carer for the local authority and then a warden controlled village, which first introduced me to the world of elderly care. I then worked as a care assistant for the local authority myself and became interested in rehabilitation aspects of geriatric care and this led me to train as a physiotherapist. I made a departure from clinical physiotherapy and returned to geriatric residential care management.


I worked as a home manager for Bupa for 7 years before moving to New Zealand and subsequently worked as a general manager for Bupa New Zealand for 11 years. As I got older, I felt the pull to return to my home country and moved back to the UK towards the end of 2024.


My passion is travel. I have been lucky enough to travel widely around the world and this is the basis for most of my interests and passions outside of work.

I like to make a difference and I feel the care home sector makes a massive difference. It is team-based and is a journey for staff, relatives and residents.


I love it when friends and relatives come in and see their loved ones looking fresh and happy.


Life is about family, making memories and remembering life is short. Outside of work, I love to spend time with my children and walking my dogs.

I have worked in care for a long period and joined Bupa in 2016, initially as a healthcare assistant and then more latterly as an activities coordinator.


I enjoy meeting people and really enjoy my current job role.


Outside of work, I have two adult children and six grandchildren.

Job Title: Receptionist Joined: 2023

I joined The Lindsay as a receptionist in the summer of 2023.


Earlier on in my career, I worked as a TV studio administrator producing motivational and corporate videos. After I had my children, I returned to work as a teaching assistant followed by temporary roles as a receptionist.


I particularly enjoy caring for people and making them feel as happy as I can. I enjoy the interaction with residents and their families as well as doing administrative work.


I live locally with my English Pointer dog and two cats. My daughter is local so I see a lot of her. My son lives near Southampton and also has a Pointer.


I love to see friends and family and I enjoy walking, gardening, holidays and the beach.

Job Title: Senior Activities Coordinator Joined: 2021

I have worked for BUPA for three years in total, first as a Receptionist at another BUPA home and now as the Senior Activities Coordinator at The Lindsay. I adore working at the care home, getting to know the residents and making their daily life that bit brighter with our activities and care. I have been married to my husband for eight years and we live locally in Poole. In my spare time I enjoy the arts, gardening and spendig time with my friends.
