The Lindsay is a care home offering nursing, residential, dementia and palliative care.

Short stays and day care are offered to help both carers and their elderly loved ones at times when they need a break or a little extra support.

Rated 'Good' by the CQC (August 2025), The Lindsay is situated a few minutes from the centre of Westbourne and all its amenities – shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs. The home has a cinema and café as well as lounges, a library and private dining areas for family and friends to come and enjoy when visiting their loved ones or celebrating a birthday or anniversary together.

This home also benefits from an onsite beauty salon, with a full-time hairdresser offering a brilliant service to all the residents.

The staff are careful and considerate. They show real understanding and patience, often when our relative is difficult to help. They do their best to cater to his dietary needs however his difficulty eating does affect his ability to enjoy food. They are able to build supportive relationships and show
humour and openness to differing moods that can be difficult.

Very impressed with the care given to my husband. He is in very good hands, and I can't praise the staff enough. Fantastic attention given to his wellbeing. I can sleep happy now that I know he is so well looked after and he enjoys his food.

I cannot recommend The Lindsay highly enough. All the staff - from the kitchen to management are professional - yet kind and considerate. Everyone makes you feel very welcome and at home. At a difficult time, my family and I were much appreciative of the care we received. It worked really well for respite

My mother is receiving end of life care. The Lindsay team have come into my life when I needed the support and understanding of a professional and capable group of people.
They have, from the start, made us feel welcome, supported and most importantly that they can manage mum's symptoms, keeping her
comfortable and relaxed. I have been able to be with her 24/7 and have seen exemplary examples of care throughout.

We have been impressed with all of the care staff. Their 'can do' approach and professional attitude have been reassuring. The gentle and kind way in which our mother/mother-in-law is being treated ensures she is in good hands. Two negatives: a receptionist who was appallingly rude (apparently, thankfully,
she is gone) and the slow pace at which Maintenance is carried out. Four separate occasions to get 3 pictures hung.

Generally, very good, many lovely staff who are very caring. Occasionally there is the odd person who is not as good as the rest as would be the case anywhere.
I feel confident my parents will get good care here. I would recommend it.
One criticism; they don't seem to play music on the floors appropriate
to the resident's age. It is mainly pop music.

I found the staff to be very warm and welcoming. Everyone spoke to you in passing and seemed very caring.
Rooms were very clean and spacious, very warm but that's understandable. Mum was only on short term respite but I felt all her needs were met and she has enjoyed her stay which allows us to enjoy
our holiday.
Knowing she was in a safe environment and being looked after.

The home is welcoming and friendly and if there is an issue it is promptly dealt with. My mother has been treated very much as an individual. Her medical needs have been well treated and I can see a marked improvement in her wellbeing since entering the home in November 2017.
She enjoys her social
life in the home and takes part in arranged in-house and outside activities. Generally, it is a well run home and a pleasure to visit.

My nan had stayed in various care homes so when I was looking for a place for respite care for my step-mum I knew exactly what I was looking for and I've found it at The Lindsay. Each person staying there is treated with dignity and respect. All staff are caring and supportive. In September my mum stayed
for 3 weeks and was sad to leave everyone, although she loves her own home. This was her second visit/stay and all the staff welcomed her back with open arms! The home is much more like a hotel than a care home, with superb facilities such as the hair salon. cafe and restaurant.

From the point of arrival, my mother was made to feel very welcome. From various telephone conversations with her, she told me that she was kept active with various activities offered by The Lindsay Care Home. She treated it as a 'holiday' this was treated as a trial run, but by the end of three weeks,
she wanted to go home. However, since returning, she has said that when she is ready for her next 'holiday' she will advise me she enjoyed herself and I have no doubt she will want to return soon.

My husband attends The Lindsay as a day care resident a few times a month. It gives me a few hours relief as we have no family members who can share some of the care responsibilities. Very friendly and helpful staff from management to reception and housekeeping. Very impressed with the clean and busy
atmosphere in reception, particularly the aroma from the coffee area. Very informal atmosphere and I've always found it easy to have my questions answered, either by a member of staff present or by telephone/email. Good location too - easily accessible on bus routes.

Ian Dunthorne

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2024

My name is Ian and I joined The Lindsay as home manager in December 2024.


I live locally to the home although I am from Bedfordshire originally.


My mother was a home carer for the local authority and then a warden controlled village, which first introduced me to the world of elderly care. I then worked as a care assistant for the local authority myself and became interested in rehabilitation aspects of geriatric care and this led me to train as a physiotherapist. I made a departure from clinical physiotherapy and returned to geriatric residential care management.


I worked as a home manager for Bupa for 7 years before moving to New Zealand and subsequently worked as a general manager for Bupa New Zealand for 11 years. As I got older, I felt the pull to return to my home country and moved back to the UK towards the end of 2024.


My passion is travel. I have been lucky enough to travel widely around the world and this is the basis for most of my interests and passions outside of work.

I particularly enjoy caring for people and making them feel as happy as I can. I enjoy the interaction with residents and their families as well as doing administrative work.


I live locally with my English Pointer dog and two cats. My daughter is local so I see a lot of her. My son lives near Southampton and also has a Pointer.


I love to see friends and family and I enjoy walking, gardening, holidays and the beach.

I have worked for BUPA for three years in total, first as a Receptionist at another BUPA home and now as the Senior Activities Coordinator at The Lindsay. I adore working at the care home, getting to know the residents and making their daily life that bit brighter with our activities and care. I have been married to my husband for eight years and we live locally in Poole. In my spare time I enjoy the arts, gardening and spendig time with my friends.
