Overall Experience

From my initial contact with the home everyone has been exceedingly helpful since it is always difficult navigating a system that you have little experience of. My wife had fallen at home and broke her right hip and after an operation in hospital she could not return home but needed to recuperate in a supportive and caring environment which is exactly what Oulton Manor provided. Her room is excellent with facility needed for a comfortable stay. The home is set in a very attractive position with attractive gardens and ample car parking. Most of important of all every member of staff I have met during my wife's stay has been caring and, when requesting help, nothing has been too much trouble. They are all, without exception, friendly and supportive.

I have experienced Oulton Manor's Care for both my Mother & my Father, unfortunately for very brief spells in the last 4 months as both were admitted needing "end of life care"
Most recently this was given to my father who always only wanted to die at home but experienced the greatest care and compassion he could ever have wished for.
He never questioned having to leave his home as he felt that Oulton Manor became it .. and as his family we were also given support, respect and strength to carry on at the most difficult time.

Even after his death I have been overwhelmed by their kindness and support.

Reply from Mark Anderson, Deputy Manager at Oulton Manor

We chose Oulton Manor Care Home for my uncle following a fall, as he needed respite care to recuperate. What was meant to be a three-week stay was extended to six weeks because he settled in so well, which says a lot about the care provided.
staff were consistently friendly, kind, and attentive, and management were visible.
On one occasion when my uncle didn't attend dinner, staff went to check on him and offered alternative food in his room, which showed genuine thoughtfulness.
The rooms were spacious, well appointed, and kept to a very high standard of cleanliness. Even when staff were busy, they always found time for residents.

Food was a major disappointment . It did not reflect the otherwise high standards of the home. The quality was poor, and my uncle, along with other residents are used to a better standard of food, He really struggled with it. This urgently needs addressing to bring it in line with the other facilities at Oulton manor.

Oulton Manor cared for my Nan for just over 4 years, right up to her last moment. Nan loved Oulton Manor, she loved the daily activities, especially any involving music! The staff at Oulton Manor would always treat my Nan as if she was their grandparent. They'd even buy her gifts at Christmas & her birthday. Thank you for looking after my amazing Nan. She's missed so much. I know we'll always be welcome here!

My Grandpa died at Oulton Manor very recently. He had been a resident for a little over two years, When he moved in he was convinced it was a hotel - which is completely understandable given the wonderful environment of Oulton Manor. The environment is second to none and all the staff there play a big part in creating that from the nurses to the carers to the cleaners we couldn't have asked for a better experience for my Grandpa. He was treated with such care and dignity until the very end. I am sure there is nowhere else he would've wanted to be.

Mum was welcomed immediately. The manager on the floor had already thought of a lady to show Mum "the ropes" and keep an eye on her. The atmosphere is very friendly. The carers are thoughtful, speak clearly and are sympathetic to the many anxieties my mum has.

Her room is spacious, well equipped and very clean. The en-suite bathroom is excellent. Everyone is approachable and knows Mum well.

An unbelievably reasurring welcome by all staff on Dad's arrival. A pack detailing every aspect was issued as well. I cannot thank all the staff highly enough in what is a very professionally run care home. A great staff to resident ratio means that my dad's needs are all attended to. The friendly, approachable way staff work means a lot to dad and our family. I also like how all the staff knew my dad's name, this has helped him settling in. In a summary, brilliant!

The Oulton Manor staff make my mum feel very comfortable and happy at the home. It is difficult to adjust to not being independent. However, the staff are kind and caring which has very much helped my mum to adjust. The home is well cared for and run well. My mom doesn't want to be in a home but says "if I were to choose a home, it would be this one." High praise indeed. Thank you so much. Keep up the good work.

I have used this home once before in an emergency and they were brilliant. It was a no-brainer for him to come in again to give my mum respite. Lisa Owens
Lisa OwensJob Title:ManagerJoined: 2022

Hi, my name is Lisa and I have worked for Anchor for 15 years but have worked in the health and social care sector for 25 years.

Before becoming the manager at Oulton Manor in December 2022, I worked at Millfield care home in Manchester. During the 14 years I was there, I progressed from team leader to home manager and lead the home successfully for 4 years.

I am very passionate about elderly care and believe everybody deserves quality living. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time hiking, wild swimming and travelling.

I am really looking forward to steering our home forward to achieve its best potential and delivering excellent care to all those who choose to live at Oulton Manor.

Sheridan Beckett
Sheridan BeckettJob Title:Home AdministratorJoined: 2018

I have been an administrator in the care industry for over ten years and have 25 years experience in total in the sector. Oulton Manor is like my second family, I have worked here since September 2018. I am extremely passionate about supporting people living in a residential setting and have a personal interest in Dementia and Alzheimer’s care due to my own family member’s diagnosis. When I am not working I love going on long walks, I enjoy reading and when I really want to let my hair down I love a good dance and sing-song!

Nicola Wood
Nicola WoodJob Title:Deputy ManagerJoined: 2018

I have worked at Oulton Manor since June 2018. In November 2024 I was appointed as a Deputy Manager working alongside the Home Manager to ensure safe, well-led, effective and responsive care and compliance throughout the home. Caring is a vocation for me and cannot imagine doing anything else. When I am not at work I love spending time with my family; I have two granddaughters whom I adore. To relax I enjoy shopping and holidays abroad.

Susie Dodd
Susie DoddJob Title:Activities CoordinatorJoined: 2025

Hello I’m Susie, I joined Oulton Manor in January 2025. I am trained in complementary therapies and have had my own business for several years. I’ve always connected really well with the older generation and am passionate about people living well. When I am not working I enjoy spending time with my son and husband; we are a very musical family and go to lots of gigs together.

Mark Anderson
Mark AndersonJob Title:Deputy ManagerJoined: 2025

I have seven years of experience in elderly care, with the last three to four years spent in home management. Before joining Oulton Manor, I worked as an Interim Home Manager for Bond Care Group, where I supported several homes with quality improvement projects and the rollout of digital care systems. I’ve worked with teams that achieved Outstanding CQC ratings, and one of my proudest achievements was earning a palliative care accreditation.

My key areas of expertise include person-centred care planning, positive outcome management, and medicines management.

In early 2025, I spent six months travelling around Southeast Asia. Outside of work, fitness is a big part of my life—I enjoy going to the gym, running most days, hiking, and walking. I also love going out for nice meals and catching up with family and friends whenever I can.

Emma Franklin
Emma FranklinJob Title:Principal Team Leader & Dementia Coach

I am the Principal Team Leader working on Chester's and Oulton Manor’s Dementia Coach. Holding this position means I am responsible for leading on and influencing quality dementia care within the home, as well as giving up-to-date training for staff.

I have worked across Anchor homes as a Team Leader since 2022, with a focus on supporting people living with varying stages of Dementia; and have found my passion to be supporting and improving the lives of people living with Dementia. I find my degree in Biomedical Science and a short stint as a GP assistant have enabled me to advocate for my residents to have a better quality of life, both medically and holistically.

I am passionate about improving the lived experience of those living with dementia and creating a warm and joy-filled environment with varied activities. I enjoy supporting carers to upskill themselves and improve their knowledge around Dementia care; and I find it really rewarding to find ‘out-of-the-box’ ways to support my residents in a way that honours the life they led, and keeps them living full and joyful lives for longer.
