These comments follow a visit to Mum under the Covid-19 arrangements but also reflect my overall impression and experience of the care she receives.
I was very impressed with the precautions taken by the home and the arrangements put in place to ensure residents could safely receive visits from family and friends.
The policy Gracewell have introduced works very well and ensures safety for both residents, staff and visitors.
On a more general note, Mum has now been living at Gracewell for two years. Throughout that time she has been very well looked after. Most importantly she is happier, less lonely and physically very well.
The home have always kept me informed of any developments and made me welcome when visiting.

Since Mum’s move to Gracewell, I feel reassured that she is now being well cared for and I have no worries about her on a day to day basis.

My parents moved to Gracewell at Lane End nearly a year ago, and could not be happier with their choice of care home. They have told me many times that they feel as though they are permanently on holiday! I am very impressed with everything too, especially the staff, who are obviously well-trained and extremely caring. They somehow manage to maintain the highest standards even when times are challenging.

All aspects of my mother’s life had been severely affected by dementia, and it was a distressing and difficult time for both my mother and the family when the decision was made that she needed to go into residential care.
Fifteen months on life is still difficult and distressing for my mother at times, but she has a much better quality of life now than she did when she was living at home. She is eating better, healthier, no longer having frequent falls, has opportunities for social interaction with residents and staff and sometimes participates in singing, seated exercise and ball game sessions. She has access to services such as hairdressing and chiropodist.
Due to Covid-19, visitors are not allowed at present but staff have arranged weekly video calls and family can phone any time if they have concerns. Mum misses family visits but tells us how well the staff at looking after her.

In normal times, visitors including children and even the family dog are made most welcome.

Gracewell of High Wycombe is a lovely, bright, clean care home with very good facilities.
Mum was a resident for six months until she recently passed away. I spent a lot of time visiting and always received the warmest of welcomes. The staff are friendly, kind, and caring and were so supportive of Mum. They encouraged her to have her hair and nails done and join in with activities.

During the last few difficult weeks, the staff went over and above to make sure we were able to video call Mum. She was always treated with love, respect, and dignity and as a family, we received so much kindness and support.

My mum has been at Gracewell High Wycombe just over a year. Looking back on when we first visited, we had a very good feeling as soon as we walked in the door. The home is modern, light, spacious, and has excellent facilities. We have been so impressed with the care Mum has received, always delivered with compassion and a smile! The staff are very well trained and are always very helpful. The communication from the home generally is excellent but particularly when it comes to Mum's overall care. We really appreciate the opportunity to sit down regularly with the staff to review Mum's care plan. The bedrooms are spacious and light, and every floor has outside viewing/sitting balconies which we love. The activities are run by an enthusiastic team who ensure all residents get as much stimulation as possible. I have even been known to engage in a little karaoke myself much to my Mum's amusement! Overall I am delighted we chose Gracewell High Wycombe as our care home of choice.

Since admission just over a week ago mum seems happy and comfortable and relieved of the constant care and attention around her. The communication from the staff back to me both by phone and email has been very good and informative, both from the transition from independent living and ongoing care assistance that is being provided.
For example, they gave me a very thorough explanation of the outcome of the GP’s visit yesterday, and a day or so earlier they had updated me also on other needs identified – thanks so much this has been a godsend, from where my sister and I were, just a week or so ago, removing the increasing burden of care that had fallen on us both.
I noticed tonight that she had her nails painted by one of the staff, I could quite work out who though. Thank you all and please thank the wider team for all that you are doing.

Once mum begins to feel stronger, we are hoping that she will begin to take on some of the activities on offer during the day.

Gracewell of High Wycombe appreciate moving into a care home can be an unsettling time. This is why we take the time to engage with family members and friends of the resident to make the process as smooth as possible, to get to know the resident on a personal level. We are pleased to hear your mother has settled in well.

All staff are very welcoming upon arrival. If ever in need of help there is always someone around to ask. It's nice to hear when seeing my resident, that staff are asking other residents would they like to take part and giving residents the choice to choose themselves should they want to take part in any activities that are available. All friendly with a smile, feels very at home on each visit.

Gracewell of High Wycombe is a beautiful environment, but more importantly, the staff have been wonderfully caring and thoughtful with my mother, who sadly passed away on 17th November 2019.

From the very first meeting, I have been impressed with the love that shines through the whole place. Special mention to one particular staff member who is professional, caring and most of all kept my mum smiling where no one else could.

The lovely feel about Gracewell is it has a good heart/feel to it - both building and staff. It's always clean and well presented - as is it's staff. Staff go above and beyond to help residents, families and friends to feel a warm welcome, support and help us any way they can. Facilities at Gracewell are excellent, and they provide so much for residents to do, clubs, groups, entertainment, beauty and hair treatments. Confidentiality and safety of all residents and visitors are highly important to all at Gracewell. Congratulations to everyone involved in making Gracewell the wonderful place it is.

Mum came here in May after being in hospital for 2 months and the hospital said her life expectancy was 6 weeks. All Mum wanted was a downstairs room with a view. I looked at many homes and Gracewell has an exceptional design and layout. I walked into her room and I cried. It was beautiful. Like a boutique hotel and actually had a door onto her own patio overlooking the gorgeous gardens. With the staff's constant attention and care, good quality healthy food and doctors visits weekly, Mum actually got stronger. She got more mobile and active and spent the summer sitting outside and walking around. I've visited her nearly every day for our coffee and cake routine. I'm welcome any time of the day and night plus my dog. It's now November and the care is now end of life but still, everyone is kind and loving to Mum and treating her with dignity and making this final stage as bearable as it can be. I'm very grateful for everyone at Gracewell for giving me this extra time for memories with her.

Gracewell has a lovely, airy feel to it, with wide corridors, many balconies and lounges and big open spaces. The staff are extremely cheerful and helpful. My father has been happy at Gracewell for the time he has been there. He has a comfortable room, well-cooked food with a nice menu, and the standard of his care is good. The staff have even managed to cajole him into taking part in some of the activities - unheard of in the past!

My brother and I have experienced the excellent care provided by this lovely, bright care home for our mother who was suffering from Alzheimer's over the past nine months. We had to find her new accommodation which was safe and caring on the death of our father (her carer) and luckily we did just that.

I cannot praise enough the caring attitude of the staff who looked after Mum. Also all the "backroom staff" were equally engaged too.

We were always made to feel welcome at whatever time or day or night we were visiting. Mum seemed calm and happy whenever we saw her. There are plenty of activities tailored to people who have this dreadful condition.

The best thing was that we were able to let Mum pass away in her own room with their end of life care plan and not to have her experience the horrors of the hospital in her final days.

Thank you, everyone.

The general ambience of Gracewell is welcoming, lovely, fresh and spacious. The staff were very friendly, cheerful and polite. Residents were treated as individuals and their needs attended to. My husband's medication is complicated - 18 pills per day and this needed to be given at precise times. There were a few hiccups to begin with but it was soon sorted out satisfactorily. On my visits, I was always greed with a smile and my own well being considered too. Importantly my husband soon settled and relaxed there.

Gracewell of High Wycombe is a comfortable and friendly environment for my father. I believe he is well cared for though clearly, he favours some of the staff over others. I would like to see him encouraged more to participate in activities - though at 92 he is somewhat stuck in his ways - so it's not easy. Unfortunately, the majority of residents are female so my dad lacks male company of a similar age - but that's not the fault of the home. Overall I am very happy with the home and the care provided for my dad.

Estelle Adriaans
Estelle AdriaansJob Title:General Manager

My early career started out in education, but my path stumbled into care and I found my true vocation, working my way up to become a care home manager at another home before joining Ridley Manor.

I have completed a post-graduate diploma in dementia, and currently I am completing my Master’s degree in dementia care too.

To be successful and good as a General Manager, I believe that you should be empathetic, caring, and supportive and have the passion to be able to look after all the changing needs of the residents entrusted into your care. By the same token, you need to be able to support, encourage and motivate your team to be able to achieve their career goals and be the best version of themselves.

My biggest career highlight has been meeting the great Nelson Mandela and being able to spend a few moments in his company.
