Dad has been in Bourne Wood Manor Care Home for five weeks. Everything has been organised to make him feel welcome in what must be a strange new world. The staff are all very helpful, and the facilities excellent, with a lovely garden to walk around. All of our requests are dealt with quickly and efficiently,
so we are very pleased with Bourne Wood Manor Care Home and its services.

Six week respite care visit, staff friendly and supportive, physical site attractive and well maintained. All parts of building clean and well decorated, food well presented and good choice. In my view well managed and organised.

Mum moved into Bourne Wood Manor Care Home following a hospital stay, feeling fragile and in recovery.
The home made her welcome with the staff going out of their way to welcome her and ensure she settled in comfortably.
As usual, there were teething problems but these were dealt with efficiently
and supportively.
Since then Mum has by and large settled in well with her care being well provided for. All the staff have a good manner and the residents treated it like a big family.

An excellent care home in a great location where all of the staff are so kind, understanding, patient and friendly. The facilities for both residents and visitors are first-class. Individual bedrooms are a good size and comfortable.
My mother's only negative comments are that the evening meal is served
to early, at 5:00 pm, and that there are no early evening activities to occupy or entertain residents.
Reply from Cheryl, Home Manager at Bourne Wood Manor Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to write a review of Bourne Wood Manor. We have taken your feedback on board and have changed some of the hours of our leisure and wellness programme so that we can facilitate some evening activities. We will be arranging a meeting with residents to find out the type of activities they would like to do during this period.

Since receiving care at Bourne Wood Manor Care Home, our aunt's health and well-being have improved significantly. The staff have been extremely supportive during the settling-in period and have made our aunt so welcome. This has made her adjustment to residential care very smooth. The care, in general,
has been excellent.

The staff seemed dedicated to their assignments and happy to be carrying them out. They showed genuine concern for the people they were caring for, who were suffering from the various disabilities that age and infirmity bring. Nothing was too much trouble. We were made to feel as fellow humans.

I recently spent my 3rd respite stay in Bourne Wood Manor. As previously, the care staff and facilities were excellent. I was made to feel welcome, and it was good to see familiar faces. The food was excellent, and there was always someone on hand to assist when needed. I enjoyed walking around the
gardens, albeit slowly, and admiring the lovely planting and flowers in full bloom at this time of year.

Overall, Bourne Wood Manor Care Home is "excellent", in my opinion. There is a caveat in that I have no experience of any other care home.
Rating for value for money is lower since there is no comparative information on company profit or cash flow.

My father came to Bourne Wood Manor Care Home at short notice for two weeks for respite care. Staff could not have been more helpful and welcoming, taking special care to ensure he settled, even for such a short period. The attention to detail was really good - for example it helped dad to settle to
find his name on the door of his room. Dad's room was sunny and comfortable. Catering was of a high standard, and we enjoyed several meals together.

My wife has been at Bourne Wood since December 2022. She is suffering with dementia related memory loss and diabetes. The Bourne Wood staff took immediate care of her medication and her health has improved markedly and she has put weight on again (she was very thin as we could not control her diabetes
properly). Because she doesn't understand where she is and is physically active the Bourne Wood staff have adapted some of their ways of work to make things better for her. All of the staff are attentive to all of the residents' needs and the environment is as near home as it is possible to be. My wife seems to have settled in and is happy.

My mother has been at Bournewood Manor for two years and I truly cannot fault the care and love that she has received, from the extraordinarily wonderful care staff, to the thoughtful cleaners and amazing kitchen staff, particularly the chef. My mother has a severe dairy allergy and the chef produces
her delicious dairy-free meals and snacks. The care staff are always so kind and nothing is ever too much trouble. At the end of the day, Mummy feels loved, cared for and secure, what more could we ask!

My mum was a resident with Bourne Wood Manor for a little under a year until she sadly passed away in July. In her last months at the home where she grew more frail every day, the nurses and staff at the home looked after her with compassion and professionalism. The care from the manager and the team
is genuine and although they all work hard, nothing is too much effort. Every time we visited, even with children we were made to feel welcome and it was clear from the other residents and how they interacted, that this is a friendly and caring environment. We looked at a number of nursing homes before choosing Bourne Wood Manor and I'm so glad we did. I would highly recommend!

Bourne Wood Manor is a bright, cheerful and welcoming home. It is modern and has beautiful well-kept gardens to wander around and a lovely bistro to meet and have a coffee and enjoy spending some time together. All the staff are passionate about their work. They are wonderful, caring and are genuinely
approachable and there to help. They have really tried to get to know my mother and are always supportive to her and our family. There is a varied choice of enriching activities, including live music and the staff encourage participation. Key events are always celebrated with enthusiasm and there is always plenty of fun and good humour. Whenever I have taken my mother out, the staff are so pleased to see her on our return and always keen to hear what she has been up to. Most importantly, we have peace of mind that she is being well cared for in a homely environment.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.764)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.764) out of 10 for Bourne Wood Manor Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 34 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 34 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.764 for Bourne Wood Manor Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (307 Excellents x 5) + (90 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 399 Ratings = 4.764
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bourne Wood Manor Care Home is based on 34 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 64 registered maximum number of service users is 12.8, which has been reached with 34 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
