My mum has been at Snowdrop two years and now lives on the nursing floor after moving up from the care floor. I cannot rate this home high enough, the level of care she receives is excellent. All the staff are friendly and above all caring. I sleep at night knowing Mum is getting the best care.

On the whole, everything seems to run satisfactorily after a few teething problems. There still seems to be an issue with the food not being hot enough. The staff are friendly and helpful and overall a very happy atmosphere.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Reviews Team at Snowdrop HouseThank you for your kind words about the team and the atmosphere at Snowdrop House, we are delighted to hear this. Sorry to read your comment regarding the temperature of the food, residents dining experience is highly important to us, and we always aim to deliver high quality, tasty warm nutritious meals to residents. To ensure food stays warm we use a plate warmer and rotate the plates. Please be rest assured this is something the Home Manager is regularly checking as part of her dining audit. If you have any further concerns, the Home Manager's door is always open.

I find Snowdrop House very inviting, safe and friendly when I visit my father. The carers always ensure I am kept up to date with my dad's well being and anything that may have occurred since last visit. Staff always smiling and happy to assist whenever possible. I feel at ease knowing my dad's care
is 100% their priority.

Snowdrop House is a caring community, particularly addressing the needs of residents. The staff are very friendly, courteous and considerate at all times. This care home is well managed and is maintained to a good standard. There are many activities arranged and encouraged for residents of all abilities,
even if participation is limited to watching in some instances.

We had a very good experience. Lovely care home which was a perfect size, as in not too large and provided the opportunity to get to know staff and residents alike in a relaxed and friendly environment. Staff both professional and friendly and always sought to help with any queries/issues we had. We
felt quite sad to say 'goodbye'. Rooms and furnishings of a good standard. Food very good and plentiful. Entertainment coordinator wonderful. All in all, a very positive experience from a family perspective. Thank you!

My father spent ten months in Snowdrop House and I found the whole experience to be easy going in regards to visiting and the communication between the staff and myself. The care home is very modern and bright and always very clean and the staff I found were very friendly and kind and always helped
and looked after my father in the best way possible. I would like to have been able to mention certain individuals who were so very friendly and genuinely cared about the wellbeing of the residents. Overall I found the experience positive and would definitely recommend Snowdrop House. Thanks.

My mother lived at Snowdrop House for the last six months of her life. What struck us, most of all was how the staff treated her with dignity, a sense of humour and genuine kindness. Mum very quickly felt at home - due mainly to the fact that she liked the staff. While the facilities are great, Mum
particularly enjoyed the activities and had a go at things I never thought she would - a tribute to the energy and enthusiasm of the staff organising the activities. As relatives, we were always welcomed and felt included in her care. In her final days, the staff showed real sensitivity and tact at a very difficult time, for which we're very grateful.

Every single member of staff has been unfailingly kind and thoughtful to both my father and to us, his family. The medical staff have provided such relief and good, steady professional advice which helped prepare us for the next stage of Father's life. Thank you for the warmth and guidance, this home
is very special and we don't know how we would have managed without it.

The staff at Snowdrop House are wonderful. During the time Mum stayed at Snowdrop, our mum was cared for with love and kindness. In such difficult times, we were always greeted with a smile when we visited, and we felt secure that Mum was happy and well-loved by the team. Communication was excellent,
and we were well-informed of any routines and events. We have such special memories of the Christmas Carol Concert in the garden - to share in the joy of both staff and residents was wonderful! We will always be grateful that Mum was able to spend this last phase of her life at Snowdrop, being cared for by such an amazing team. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

My mother has been in this home for nearly three months. She has settled amazingly well. I live close enough to visit a few times a week and bring her to my home once a week; she's happy to come out and happy to go back! Every time I go in, I am welcomed and made to feel able to join in if my mum is
at an activity - which is very rewarding. Cannot fault the home at all - the staff are all incredibly kind and supportive!

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.945) out of 10 for Snowdrop House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 33 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 33 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.945 for Snowdrop House is calculated as follows: ( (364 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 383 Ratings = 4.945
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Snowdrop House is based on 33 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 70 registered maximum number of service users is 14, which has been reached with 33 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2014

I have been working in the care sector for 20 years, qualifying in Cambridge and specialising in respiratory and end-of-life care. In my career so far, I have undertaken a wide variety of roles all over the country, including a care case manager for the East of England. I have also worked for the prison service, a wide range of hospitals and care homes, and people with challenging behaviour. I have also been awarded an Accreditation ‘Bronze’ in Nutrition and Dietetics.

I started work with Care UK in September 2014, and I believe that to be an effective team member, you need to have a positive attitude, be caring, respectful and approachable, and have a good sense of humour!

My favourite part of the working day is motivating the staff to ensure the residents are the main focus, creating memorable moments, laughter, and joy. My biggest professional challenge so far has been saving a person's life and then continuing to watch them grow and flourish.

In my spare time, I enjoy travelling, spa days and have a huge interest in guide dogs and caring for animals.
