I found, as I have indicated, everything excellent. I also found the residents I met very pleasant. I cannot think of one thing in Pear Tree Court to find fault with. It is a charming, caring place, and feels so safe.

When home help could not sustain my mother's needs, Pear Tree Court offered a dignified care package that instantly made my mother safe in their wonderful care, and in turn knowing that she is safe I felt a great burden of responsibility being lifted, that in her final chapter the care package would be the best that could be offered in our area close to where her friends could visit and family members could come and go when they pleased. All the staff including importantly, the nursing staff, treated my mother with ultimate respect which unlike a hospital is truly humbling to witness. I would give thanks to the fact that nothing had been a problem during her stay especially when family members at times need as much comfort as those suffering, all of which was given with compassion in spades. They are a credit to our area which other homes strive to achieve the same level. Thank you to all the staff at Pear Tree Court - Horndean.

Pear Tree Court is a clean and welcoming home. Management make time to talk to residents/family and answer any questions they may have the staff through to maintenance are very pleasant and helpful, cannot fault the food and welfare of the residents. My partner has been in Pear Tree Court for 18 months now. There is a variety of activities of which he enjoys when able also have entertainment come to the home most weeks. I would definitely recommend Pear Tree Court to family/friends.

The immediate and lasting feeling given is of a comfortable well-established country hotel. It has a very welcoming atmosphere. Pear Tree court impressed me as a well organised and well-run care home. My room had a French window opening onto the garden, with en-suite, well designed and very comfortable, except that I should have preferred a slightly softer mattress. Public rooms are spacious and brightly and tastefully decorated. They give an immediately warm, positive and very welcoming impression. The staff are first class - warm, friendly and cheerful and know their jobs which they do quietly and efficiently. Food was good. Red wine (my favourite). Service was bad. The wine itself was good, but on several occasions there was none available (and I am told this failure was not unusual), culminating with none available on each of my last three evenings.

My mother moved to Pear Tree Court after a trial month in a, supposed rated, care home in north Kent. In Kent, it was found that my mother was frequently abandoned for hours on end, even when trying to achieve basic levels of care. In immediate contrast, my mother settled in very quickly into the Pear Tree Court and we were both pleased with the care and attention she received from every member of the staff. It was appreciated that an instant response could not be made for every request/call as, obviously, the staff had other residents to look after. It was noted that the manager had previously been employed in the turn around of under-performing care homes. Encouragingly this meant that the manager was able to identify quickly any perceived shortfalls in performance, and importantly, what to do to ensure full rectification. We found the Pear Tree Court to be well led with the staff fully motivated and cheerfully trying to do a good job as possible for all the residents. The standard of cooking was excellent and much appreciated.

On arrival and having being alerted by a well-respected survey magazine, I expressed concern that should a resident die in the Pear Tree Court, then an excessive two-week charge of fees would be made after the date of death. This I considered to be unreasonable but was assured by both the manager and deputy that this company policy was under review. On that basis the contract was signed, the 2-week fee still remaining contractually binding. On the passing of my mother, I discovered that Care UK had changed this part of its policy to only a 3-day fee. This revision was subsequently honoured in full in my case, even though importantly I had not been invited to re-endorse a new contract. This action was impressive and reflects well on the integrity of Care UK. My family and I wish to thank all of the Pear Tree Court staff for all their efforts to make my mother as comfortable as possible during her final days.

I am so grateful to all the staff at Pear Tree Court for making it possible for my mum to attend the wedding service of her granddaughter. One member of staff even gave up her day off to go with her. This is just one example of how everyone at the home goes out of their way to provide the very highest standard of care and attention. We couldn't wish for a better place for our mum to be.

Moving mum into respite was a hard decision to take but was made so much easier by the care and attention given by the team at Pear Tree Court. Initial meetings were supportive and as time has progressed they have all become important to all of us, especially as mum chose to stay. This was a combination of great staff managed by a strong ethos of putting the resident first. Living at Pear Tree Court has given mum back her sense of belonging and she has thrived way beyond what we could have hoped for. Being a valued resident has given mum second wind as she relishes in daily activities and runs her own Knit and Natter group. The home is exactly that, we all love visiting, not just because the team make us feel welcome, but because when we visit mum now she's a joy to see. We cannot thank the care home manager and his team enough for giving mum back her spark and the endless laughter we all share knowing how happy and safe she is.

My mother was always adamant that she did not want to go into a home but a change in health meant that this was the only long-term option. From the time we first made contact with the home, they could not have been more helpful and welcoming. As a new, purpose-built care home, the environment is lovely - visitors are welcome any time, food is fantastic and there are a lot of activities for residents. My mother has a lovely room with her own private patio. When she moved in, we asked whether we could bring outdoor furniture - there was no need as the home immediately ordered some for her. On the day of moving in, mother stated that she couldn't have found a better place and while she may have short-term memory problems, she seems to be fitting in very well and making friends and keeping busy - something she has said she wanted to do for some time.

Due to the care of all at Pear Tree Court my dear friend's quality of life has been transformed. After two years of basically sleeping in bed all day, she is now enjoying a life of what I can only describe as totally fulfilling. From the food to the caring staff, the planned activities, visits from the home hairdresser and so much more. As visitors, we are made so welcome because it is valued that this is afterall the residents' home. Everything is so well thought out. It really is amazing.

The moment we walked into Pear Tree Court, we were blown away by the finish of the home. My mother has dementia and the Napier Suite is by far the most dementia focused facility in the area. Having decided that this was the right place for mum, the process of securing a room and arranging the move in was handled with efficiency and sensitivity. We were apprehensive on move-in day but were overwhelmed by the support and care offered by all the staff. Mum has settled in better than we could have imagined, she has come out of her shell, made friends with staff and residents and gets involved in (most!) of the activities. We love going to see mum and rest well knowing she is safe, secure and well cared for. We also love the staff! Nothing is ever too much trouble, they're always smiling and provide cheeky, light-hearted relief when it's needed! Thank you.

Meet the Team (1)

Aimee Sparks
Aimee SparksJob Title:Home ManagerJoined: 2023

I’m a qualified Registered General Nurse with 15 years of experience in both NHS hospitals and private care nursing homes. I was keen to join Pear Tree Court because of Care UK’s very good reputation and the development opportunities that are available. I was looking for a service to manage on a long-term basis.

Previously, I was an Interim General Manager and Clinical Quality Assurance Manager for a provider that supports residents with complex care needs. I also have experience working as a turnaround manager, where I supported a nursing home to move from ‘Inadequate’ to ‘Good’ in six months by building an entirely new team. I have a passion for nurturing colleagues, and it makes me proud to see my team shine.

As a Home Manager, I believe it’s important to have a fair but firm approach, a willingness to listen and a supportive and reassuring management style. You need to have an open door for colleagues and compassion for residents. Supporting my team to ensure excellent care is provided to keep residents and their loved ones safe and happy is the most important part of my role.

My favourite part of being a Home Manager is caring for residents on a long-term basis. This means I have the opportunity to really get to know them and their families and understand how to support them to live fulfilling lives.

When I’m not working, I enjoy taking trips with my family, showing my two daughters different cultures and areas of the world.
