Dad stayed for respite for 2 weeks. He had an infection and a fall. Over his 2 weeks he was treated kindly and respectfully in a lovely clean welcoming environment by attentive and understanding team. He ate better than he has for a while and by the end of his stay was fully mobile and raring to go again. He has been home for a week now and has felt well enough to walk to the pub daily again. Thank you so much to the whole team for making the experience so positive for my dad and myself. I suspect we will need you again in the future and I will not be worried about the process or his care. Thank you once again

My mother went to the Spires Lichfield early in 2026, initially for respite care. She settled in very quickly and we realised that she was happy there, so much so that we made the decision to make her a permanent resident. She has not looked back and neither have my sister and I. Mum is well cared for by all the staff who have been accommodating and compassionate from the moment she walked in the doors. The food is excellent and portions suit her needs. The atmosphere is always calm and peaceful and it is a joy to visit Mum and see her looking so well. We are very grateful to have found such an ideal place for my Mum to spend her days and are thankful for all who work tirelessly to make the residents so comfortable and cared for.

The care at The Spires is exemplary. Very caring/loving staff for whom any request was no trouble. Food excellent portions/variety spot on.

Bathrooms need more grabrails on same wall as shower head. Shelf also would be useful to put shampoo/gel etc on. Separate towel rail outside of wet area would be better.

Very dissappointed in 'service' provided. On each visit guest sitting at exit in reception awaiting me and distressed. Each phone call told he was sitting in reception 'helping'. Very little to occupy male guests. Visited to local hostelry arranged for Fathers day - requested joining this on day admitted, further 4 requests including deputy manager (who did assessment) no-one contacted me to arrange or deny! On day I visited to pack, guest left behind staff member suggested 'he might run off'. Who decided that? Shouldn't I be contacted. All garden furniture very dirty asked it be cleaned 6 days later still dirty - soil, bird droppings, cobwebs. Home locked Sunday unable to access until staff member arrived. No feedback from home on respite by phone or post. Very poor total lack of service!

The staff on the reception desk are always so friendly, helpful and caring. We have been so pleased with the responsiveness of the nursing staff who have guided us through everything so kindly. The home is spotless, we always comment on how clean Mum's room is and how lovely and tidy the whole home is. Mum has only lived there for five months but says she loves it and doesn't have to worry about anything!

This is the fourth time my mother has stayed here for respite care. She has dementia (nine years) but it always happy to spend her time here. The food always looks so appetising, the surroundings so comfortable and accessing the outdoor balcony area is a treat for her. It looks and feels like a five-star hotel with every detail taken care of. The last couple of times when it has been time to go home, she has cried as she has enjoyed it so much. We're always confident that she's comfortable and well cared for during her stays at Barchester The Spires Care Home.

I enjoyed y respite week very much. The room ad its bathroom were lovely. All the staff were very kind and considerate. Drinks were always available and there were choices for meals. The food and drinks were excellent. I took part in two sessions of exercise which were good, also watched the streamed Sunday service from the cathedral. I watched the Olympics on TV and listened to the radio, also did my own hobby of painting. My husband felt welcome when he came to visit me. The garden is kept very well, I wish it was more used by residents. My husband was very pleased with the care I received, at the end of the week, he knew I had benefitted from my stay.

Although I had said that I did not have sugar, no response! No puddings at first.

Overall Experience

Great environment for those needing very minimal care. Most carers are lovely. Management very poor and lacking in compassion and overall ethos seems to be more about what they can't do than what they can do. Repeatedly told 'we're not a nursing home, we can't do that' and felt like there was a disclaimer on everything. Dad was only there for 6 weeks and had multiple falls. Injuries were not well cared for and some were ignored and not recorded. Several minor medical matters (which they could not treat) not escalated. When we chased we were promptly told they couldn't meet his needs so he had to move. This was only 5 weeks since their assessment. No discussion or warning. He had been accepted as a permanent resident and we were due to sign the contract in a few days time. Their 'requires improvement' CQC status is in part due to leadership and I agree. With hindsight, Dad should not have been accepted, they could not offer the required level of care, maybe a case of £££££ over care!
