The Spires is a beautiful, clean, modern home whose staff are wonderful. They are caring and nothing is too much trouble.
Mum's room is clean, fresh and looks over the garden - ideal for someone who loved gardening!

The staff encourage Mum to join in the activities and when she goes she really enjoys them.

My 94-year old mother, suffering increasingly from Alzheimer's Disease, was initially a short-notice respite resident at The Spires Care Home due to her inability to care for herself after the death of my 97-year-old father. The necessarily fast move was traumatic for her in many ways, especially with the restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic. However, from the moment of her arrival there, she was met with an extremely high level of excellent care from a skilled team of carers. In the luxurious environment of The Spires, she was treated with exceptional kindness, sensitivity and, indeed, love for which both she and I, her son, were greatly appreciative. The attentiveness to her many care needs and mental health demands was humbling and the patience of the carers was remarkable. As the only remaining family member, I was learning quickly about my mother's condition and the patience and empathy shown to me, too, at this difficult time was outstanding.

Thank you for your lovely review. It has been a pleasure to care for your mother in what has been a very difficult time for her. We are very proud of our fantastic staff and the exceptional care and empathy they show on a daily basis.

I cannot speak too highly of the care, love and attention all the staff have given to my mum since she has been living at The Spires Care Home. Nothing is too much trouble and I have complete peace of mind knowing that my dear mum is being looked after and is well cared for. Mum moved in last August 2020 and she is very happy. She has a wonderful room and loves looking out over the central garden area. She loves the food and says it's like living in a 5-star hotel! She says the carers are so kind and caring. Throughout the whole Covid pandemic we have been kept up to date on everything and everything has been done to keep the residents safe and well. I would thoroughly recommend The Spires to anyone who was considering their loved one needing full-time care.

We cannot praise the team at The Spirehighly enough. Even before the pandemic, they were doing a wonderful job, but they have excelled themselves over the past months. All the residents and staff have been kept safe, but more than that, they have worked to keep the atmosphere cheerful and upbeat, no easy task. It's impossible to single out any one person to be employee of the month because they are all employees of the month! They have not only been employees looking after all in their care, but this year, they have also been surrogate family to the resident who have really missed seeing their nearest and dearest. Those working at The Spires have had to juggle the concerns of their own family and friends with the safety of the residents. It is a testament to how well they have done this that they have had only one possible case over the whole period. The activities team, along with all the other members of staff, have battled to keep spirits high, so important for mental and emotional health. There is always such a great atmosphere when we arrive for a visit, in the wonderful visiting suite with Mum and lots of laughter. We really appreciate all that everyone at The Spires has achieved this past year.

Two weeks ago my mother became a resident at The Spires, on that day the manager was thoughtful enough to arrange a visit for us on the 29th of October when Mum's quarantine period was over. So yesterday she finally got to meet the other residents and we visited. All necessary precautions had been taken to ensure everyone's safety. The member of staff who accompanied Mum was very attentive, helpful and patient. After the visit it was wonderful to glimpse through the window and see Mum had been taken to the cafe area to join fellow residents in a game of dominoes, encouraging her to socialise and settle in her new home.

Reply from Amy Doyle, General Manager at Barchester The Spires Care Home

Thank you to you and your Mother for choosing The Spires, we are so pleased she is settling so well and that you are both happy with our approach and care. The visiting room is a huge benefit in these difficult times, it is so important for residents to stay in touch with their families and loved ones. Thank you also for taking the time to give us your feedback it really is appreciated.

This is my second visit to the care home. I have been here for 21 days. The initial impression is of a smart, well furnished and well-equipped building. But it is much more than that. CARE is the word that signifies how this home operates. Staff are superb and quickly learn what a resident needs and their preferences. The food is excellent and served in a splendid dining room or your room if preferred. I would have no hesitation in returning, it would be very hard to find better.

Reply from Helen Lunn, Deputy Manager at Barchester The Spires Care Home

Thank you for giving us your very positive and lovely feedback, it means a lot to me and the team to hear you came back for a second visit and are as happy and satisfied this time too. Respite recovery from a hip operation. Very good facilities, very cooperative staff, constant checking on my welfare day and night. Meal choices very good. Quality of food and cooking exceptional. The bathroom is cleaned very thoroughly, but the carpet was not vacuumed (biscuit crumbs, etc). Wi-Fi is very good.

My mom stayed at Barchester for eight days respite, it was the first time my mom has ever been in respite so I was a little apprehensive. I called her a good few times while she was in Barchester and she was so happy and told me the staff were lovely to her, and she was enjoying her stay. I would never be hesitant to let my mom stay at Barchester again because she was well looked after.

March 9-16 2020, 7-days respite - very impressed.
June 8-21, 2 -7th July - 14-days isolation, 14-days normal.
July 8th onwards, happy permanent resident in a relaxed atmosphere.

All the staff work as a very efficient team. Standing in for whatever is needed. Pressing for help is always answered, even if one may wait a while. Help is spontaneously offered whenever a need is seen. The surrounding gardens are full of flowers, shrubs, trees etc, and well maintained. And all of the light downstairs rooms have access to the gardens.

Staff at The Spires are going above and beyond the call of duty during this very difficult time. My mother feels cared for and among friends. Despite not being able to receive visitors, she appears quite content - I would say happy - when I telephone. I cannot speak too highly of the care she is receiving. My heartfelt thanks go to all concerned, from cleaners to nursing staff. You are stars!

My Godmother, mid-80s, moved up from London to Lichfield, at short notice, so we had to select a care home rather quickly. Barchester as an organisation arranged a meeting at a local home in London (when I was visiting for a flying visit), to speed the admission process, and from day one have been top rate.
The Lichfield Spires is the best care home I have ever been in - the staff are friendly and the setting is beautiful. It really doesn't feel like a care home, more like a hotel complete with communal café and cake bar. Considering the massive change in my Godmother's life in recent months, she has been brilliant. She keeps telling me what a good job I did choosing The Spires. Respite care is available if you want to just try it out for your relative.

During recent weeks with the COVID-19 issues they have been brilliant, sending us updates, pictures, keeping us informed, arranging activities to keep the residents' minds active and positive, all within government guidelines.

From our first visit the sound of laughter and joy was apparent throughout the home. Over the last few weeks, everyone has been incredibly supportive, not only to Mum but also to my sister and I. The circumstances most of us find ourselves in are not easy. However, knowing the care, attention, and involvement of all at The Spires have meant we are confident and comforted that Mum is excellently looked after as much as is humanly possible. Thank you.

I was admitted from hospital mid Summer 2019 when I was unable to stand and weight 5 stone. Since then, with good care and food, I am able to walk and join in most of the activities available. We are a happy crowd and the staff has kept us entertained during this lockdown period when of course, we miss our families and visitors. All the staff has helped us to use tablets etc to keep in touch with the outside world!
