I'll be honest, having looked after my mother myself for 5 and a half years I was both anxious and experiencing huge guilt when we went to look at The Spires as a possible 'new home' for my mother. From our very first visit, we knew this was going to be the place for Mum. Late-stage vascular dementia is not an easy condition to care for and the team on The Spires Memory Lane gives each and every one of their residents' respect, care, and attention and it's no exaggeration to say, love.

Mum was only with them for a few months before she passed away, but she was always clean, comfortable, calm and felt secure, right to the end. We knew Mum was extremely distressed by her admissions to hospital and The Spires totally supported our desire for her to be cared for by them wherever it was possible, including her end-of-life care. As their manager told us "this is her home".

My father stayed at Barchester for respite care, and the staff were absolutely marvellous. Lovely building and surroundings, light and airy rooms. Lots of activities to do if you want and lovely, friendly staff. We will definitely return again, hopefully.

The Spires is an absolutely wonderful care home.

My father-in-law has settled in really well, and everyone is so kind and friendly. His room is bright and airy, and he says he’s never slept so well; the bed is so comfortable.

My father went to The Spires for respite after a short time in hospital; he was, unfortunately, unable to return home and has now become a full-time resident.
Managers have been so helpful with the transition to full-time care; nothing was too much trouble.
He has settled in well. The staff are amazing, very attentive, caring and respectful to my father.

He thinks the food is excellent and always says he is very comfortable there.

The manager was very helpful in my initial contact, and when she came to visit my father before his respite stay, she put him at his ease and happily answered all questions. When Dad was first shown to his room, all the staff were very helpful and friendly and showed him where everything was. He enjoyed his respite stay and said it felt like a holiday, especially the food in the restaurant.

Dad was admitted to The Spires with late-stage dementia. He was treated with respect and kindness, and during visits, I always felt welcomed and listened to.
When Dad passed away, the staff were incredibly supportive and helped me through a very difficult time.

Both my mother-in-law and father-in-law have resided at The Spires, my mother-in-law until she passed away and my father-in-law until he needed to go to a nursing home.

They have both loved living at The Spires, the building and facilities are beautiful and the care and staff have been wonderful. They treated both with dignity and love and genuine care. The manager has gone out of her way to help us the family well above and beyond. Don't send your loved ones anywhere else, this is the best place.

Individual care by staff is excellent and cheerful.

However, liaison between shifts seems uncertain, needs addressed by staff on duty not continued subsequently.

I was in this home on respite for ten days in December 2021. The staff and care are exemplary, as is the food! I felt welcomed and looked after. I should have no hesitation in choosing this home if I ever need one.

My mother-in-law has just returned from another lovely respite stay - I can't recommend The Spires enough. The staff are always warm and welcoming and they put us at ease straight away.

The ensuite rooms are of a high standard and the lounges feel very homely and comfortable. My mother-in-law has dementia and enjoys music, craft and puzzles, so the daily programme of activities is great for her and she has plenty of things that she can join in with.

Review from Garry C (Power of Attorney of Resident) published on 24 November 2021 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

I have recently had dealings with The Spires at Lichfield. The lady I act with Power of Attorney for, needed much more care than she could get in her own home. After an inspection visit to this home, and after hearing other good verbal comments, we quickly decided to take advantage of the trial (respite) offer. She almost immediately decided that this was the place for her. All further arrangements have been facilitated very easily with help from the very approachable management team. I have had many questions and need for guidance, which have all been dealt with in a friendly and efficient manner. Thank you to the staff. After my visit yesterday with her, she was over a month into her stay, she confirmed that to move here was a decision she wished she had made earlier and had glowing reports of all staff members. I know that being there will be excellent for her and make my role much easier.

Sadly given I had decided after my hip replacement to stay for respite I was impressed by my double room and the rest of the decor of the building, however, my first initial reception by the staff was not so friendly. However, I am sad to say the food from day one to leaving was applying always cold! My bed was made only twice in a week and never changed. Never Again!

Our mum was a resident at the Spires Care Home for the last three years. The Home provided the best quality of life that we could have hoped for. Mum laughed, danced, sang and made numerous friends, she may not have remembered names but she enjoyed the company of her extended family and felt safe.
Mum was a troubled soul at times but the staff became familiar with the extent of her dementia and responded lovingly and appropriately to her needs even with cups of tea at midnight.
The whole staff made us feel welcome and involved indeed a part of the Spires family.

We will forever appreciate their role in mum’s last few years.

My mom was a resident at The Spires for 5-months and my father for 20-months ending in September 2021. They had a range of needs in addition to their slowing down that came with age. They were made very welcome from day one and made to feel like part of a big family. Their needs were met with good professionalism, but above and beyond this was the friendly and kind-hearted nature of the staff. As their health deteriorated, every effort was made to meet their needs, and without the care and understanding of the staff, I do not know how we could have managed these last few months. It was clear that the staff really took the residents to heart. Sadly, due to the needs of other family and friends, we have experienced a number of Care homes in recent years, and I can honestly say this is the best home we have experienced. Thank you.

My husband spent a week in Respite. The care was excellent as usual this being his fifth visit over the last few years. We are so grateful to all the staff for making him feel so welcome and content. The room was absolutely perfect somewhere he could relax and enjoy the views from the patio doors. Even sitting out when the weather allowed. We already have another stay booked for next year.

Staff at the Spires are helpful caring and considerate and together with the facilities available made my mom's respite break very enjoyable for her and gave my sister and me the peace of mind, that she was safe and being looked after. I can’t praise the staff at Barchester The Spires Care Home enough for the care, empathy and support they gave to my sister whilst she was in their care. My sister’s behaviours were at time difficult due to her dementia but the team were always calm, patient, understanding and treated her with dignity. The manager and the team kept us updated of any changes and supported her move when her respite ended. I would have no hesitation recommending The Spires to anyone for care and the home and gardens are also of an excellent standard.

Only came for three weeks respite. The care staff are friendly and caring. Nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are a good size, and the decor all around is lovely. My room overlooked the garden and was in full bloom, squirrels and rabbits running around first thins, a lovely setting. I can't fault the home and staff.
