Overall Experience
My mother was receiving respite care and then end of life care. Throughout this difficult time, she was treated with compassion and respect. Myself and my family were always greeted with a smile and encouraged to ask for assistance or information at any time. We were well informed and always asked if we had any needs, from concerns about mum to providing tea and cake.
The care given was exceptional and always prompt and sensitive if requested. My mum was made as comfortable as was possible, liaison with health professionals was efficient and communication excellent.

As a family we will always be grateful for the support given to us by all the staff, helping my mum and all of us through our most difficult time.

I think my husband is being well looked after. The building is very clean and comfortable. The activities are good, not always joining in - that's his choice!

I'm very happy with the care and entertainment at Alexandra House. Mum is happy here and safe. It's reassuring to know that my mum is being looked after well and her mind and body are being stimulated. I enjoy the coffee and pastries. Thank you all at Alexandra House.

Care Staff - Excellent.
Facilities - Excellent.
Cleanliness - Excellent.
Food - Too many sandwiches - which can not contribute to a balanced diet and becomes monotonous.
Activities - Good.

Can there be more stimulating tv. programs in the lounge not just cheap afternoon tv. perhaps films, documentaries or nature. Perhaps a film club once a week + talks from locals or schools + students.

Reply from Phil Smith, Director of Residential Care at Alexandra House

Thank you for your review and sharing that the care, facilities, and cleanliness are excellent. Please be assured sandwiches are just a small part of the well-balanced diet that we offer. We have shared this review with the home who will be able to share with you our activities calendar and the exciting events that they have planned.

My husband has been a resident at Alexandra House for 3 and 1/2 months. The ambience of the house is warm, bright and welcoming. My husband has poor mobility and needs two carers to move him. He is always treated with care and dignity. The activities organisers work very hard to provide interesting activities and are always cheerful and inclusive. The kitchen staff try hard to provide a good choice and variety of dishes.

My mother has been a resident at Alexandra House Care Home for about 10 months and has found the care she has received to be excellent, and all the staff is very kind. Last week she was unfortunately taken ill whilst out visiting friends. Whilst waiting for the ambulance, her friends called Alexandra House to advise them of the situation, and two members of staff very kindly came out immediately to help with the situation and hand over to the ambulance staff. This undoubtedly helped in ensuring she received the best urgent care at the hospital, and we are so grateful to the care home staff for going above and beyond to help my mother, who made a good recovery and was able to return to the home within a couple of days. Well done and thank you so much to all the Alexandra House staff for providing such excellent care.

From my first visit to view Alexandra House to the day I collected Mum to take her home everyone was so kind, friendly and welcoming. Not just to Mum but to me when I visited her.
Mum came in to give my Dad 2 weeks of respite. By the end of the first week, my dad decided that she would have a more enjoyable Christmas there. So we extended her stay to 3 weeks. There was no fuss/drama with extending her stay. Prior to Mum's visit, I had tickets booked to take her to the Dementia cinema which landed during her stay. Again everyone ensured that Mum was ready. She had an early lunch to ensure she was ready.
I can't thank/praise all the staff enough for their kindness.

I would have no problems recommending Alexandra House to friends for their loved ones. Thank you.

From the first interview before moving Mum into Alexandra House until collecting her belongings when she passed I cannot fault anyone that I came in contact with. Everyone without fail was happy, caring and genuine. They turned what could have been an awful experience into something wonderful. My mum was loved and cared for and given a much better final year than I could have imagined. Thank you everyone!

Alexandra House is a wonderful care facility... particularly due to the excellent management and caring and compassionate staff. I lead short acts of worship on a monthly basis, and the local parish church has a great rapport with this care home. The recent summer fete was a brilliant example of working together for the common good and the benefit of the local community. Well done Alexandra House for offering such excellent care to all your residents.

My stepmother liked Alexandra House and on more than one occasion thanked me for arranging for her to stay there. Her well-appointed suite had a lovely aspect and she enjoyed the food. She appreciated the attention she received from the staff who were very thorough as she had a few medical issues. A special thank you to one in particular who was extremely kind and helpful to us both over the two months that she was there.

My 89-year-old sister liked Alexandra House a lot; the kindness of the staff "they kiss me goodnight" and the excellent food in particular. She had two months of excellent care, and she was treated with great dignity at the end. The staff were so kind to the family also, two members of staff in particular - lovely people. I cannot fault Alexandra House.

Social services allocated my former neighbour to Alexandra House as soon as her husband was hospitalised/died.

The care there was excellent, as she deteriorated through Lewy body dementia. Visiting coped with the pandemic very well, and I visited for as long as my visits were useful to her.

I have a number of formal qualifications, such as an NVQ Level 5 in Health and Social care and in 2021, in my previous role, I won Manager of the Year at our annual awards.

My Mum was a Community Carer and gave me the push that I needed to go into the care industry, I have never looked back and love working in such a rewarding industry because every day is different.
