My dad became a resident at Mountbatten Grange in April and has settled really well. His health has improved, he has gained weight and his anxiety levels have visibly decreased. He has spoken very positively about his care, including the activities laid on and the food.
All of the staff have been friendly
and welcoming and are always willing to give us feedback.

A few years ago I spent countless hours looking for the right care home. I visited about 20. Mountbatten Grange was head and shoulders above anywhere I visited. My mother has been there for a few years and they have always gone above and beyond. She is treated well and the entire staff genuinely care
about her wellbeing.

My now 94-year-old mother has spent the past 21 months at Mountbatten Grange, she became a resident after a number of dislocations to her hip and the onset of vascular dementia. She arrived in a leg splint however after 6 months of dedicated care by the fantastic staff and one-on-one attention by the
attending physiotherapist her splint was finally removed and her capability to walk with her walker unaided was achieved and maintained. My mother is adored by the staff, her character enjoyed and encouraged, more so now that the dementia is progressively having its impact. It is without doubt the best facility any son could wish for his mother approaching her final years. It is unquestionably 5-star in every single aspect of its being.
Reply from Leahanne Wilkinson, Reviews Team at Mountbatten GrangeHello J C (Son of Resident) thank you very much for taking the time to leave us positive feedback about your experience at Mountbatten Grange. The physiotherapist is an additional complementary service that adds to the high standards the team at Mountbatten Grange strive for. It is wonderful to hear that this has not only had such a positive impact on your mum, but also to you and your family, and that you feel the home is a home away from home. Mum is always ready to greet people on arrival with a smile. If you would like to provide us any further specific feedback, directly to Care UK, please use the form on the following web page; https://www.careuk.com/company/contact/feedback. My mother has been at Mountbatten Grange for about a year and her health and general well-being have really improved more than I could ever have hoped. I am amazed at the care and concern the staff have all shown and how warm the atmosphere is - there always seems to be something happening in the way
of an activity, a group event or a hair appointment, so that life is made as pleasant as possible and her immobility is offset as well as it possibly could be. There are regular physio sessions and a sense of medical attention given unobtrusively. Her mental state is so much better I think than it was before she moved here, as she has lots of interaction with people and carers are always popping in for a quick chat. It has been quite an eye-opener for me as I had assumed a care home would not be quite like this, but the staff are really bringing off a small miracle in what they provide here. The food is also excellent!

My father became a resident in Mountbatten Grange in late January 2024. Immediately my sister and I were pleased with the care and attention given by all members of staff. My father has remarked on numerous occasions how wonderful the staff are. He has become involved in twice-weekly exercise activities
which have helped his mobility. Having lived on his own for a great number of years when he could go days without speaking to anyone other than on the phone, he has now has daily contact with staff and fellow residents and this can only be good for his mental welfare.
When my wife and I visit him we are always made welcome, invited to have a coffee and some pastries. We also get an honest feedback on how my father is doing. Overall we are very pleased with treatment and friendship and care.

Consistent, caring staff looking after father. All staff have a “very can-do attitude” in their approach to their jobs.
From the manager downward, the resident is always at the forefront of their minds when making decisions regarding their welfare and safety.
Well done, all.

My mother was at Mountbatten Grange for end-of-life care, and I cannot praise the staff enough. Although this nursing home is an amazing facility, it is the generous, kind nature of the staff that makes it superb. Not only do they care for the residents, they care for the family and friends of the residents
compassionately - this is what sets them apart. From the initial contact with two wonderful ladies to the receptionists, catering, cleaning and nursing staff, this is a working family who work seamlessly day and night, and nothing is too much bother. Small touches made a difference - a radio and a fluffy duvet. I cannot express my thanks enough to all the staff for making my mother's last couple of weeks so peaceful and caring.
Thank you from my heart.

The very first time I visited Mountbatten Grange Care Home I knew that my mum would feel comfortable living here. The ambience, decor and facilities make you feel like you’re in a beautiful hotel and the staff are all extremely friendly and helpful. The manager is so accommodating and helpful to ensure
Mum has her every need taken care of. One member of staff, in particular, also has been really helpful at all times with the administration and other questions I have as well. The activities are so varied and in the space of just over a month, Mum has joined in so many things she would never have experienced at home, like painting, making things, zumba, puzzles, singing, jigsaws and pumpkins for Halloween. The activities staff and the other caters all help to make this time fun with her. The team on floor 3 are all so friendly and caring too. Best decision I had to make for my mum's care.

After having visited and researched many local homes we moved my wife (who suffers from Lewy Body Dementia) into Mountbatten Grange in October last year. This is always a very difficult decision but, from the start, the staff made every effort to get to know her and to welcome and settle her in. A few
months in, she is indeed settled and content. These things take time - and the team working with my wife and our family knew that and have been patient, friendly and attentive throughout. We are very grateful to the staff and to other residents and their families for their care and attention. Mountbatten Grange now feel like family.

Yet another successful respite stay at Mountbatten Grange. Mum has dementia and it’s always difficult with new surroundings but the staff here are great and Mum settles in well. The staff are great, friendly and professional. From speaking on the phone to first point of contact with customer care to
meet and greet on arrival. They fill me with confidence that mum will be safe and looked after well for her stay. Would highly recommend anyone using respite care for the first time to choose here and feel confident about the care.

Could not fault it, always very friendly and helpful, and look after my sister with great care. The garden is kept very nice. The building kept immaculately clean. The snacks on arrival at the cafe are very nice, a very small problem, sometimes it's hard to find a parking place.

After some years of caring for my mother at home my sister and I looked at suitable care homes within our vicinity. We were impressed with the facilities and ambience of Mountbatten Grange where she was admitted in December 2022. My mother had the onset of dementia and also a lack of mobility. I was
pleased with her room which was very well appointed and in very good decorative order. I was present with her for some hours each day and she was treated with care and compassion by the staff. I would like to thank them all with a special mention to the admissions Manager who was so helpful and reassuring before and during my mothers admission to Mountbatten Grange.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.901)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.901) out of 10 for Mountbatten Grange is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 44 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 44 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.901 for Mountbatten Grange is calculated as follows: ( (456 Excellents x 5) + (46 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 504 Ratings = 4.901
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Mountbatten Grange is based on 44 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 72 registered maximum number of service users is 14.4, which has been reached with 44 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I started my career in care in 2001 and joined the Care UK team in 2006. What really stands out for me about Mountbatten Grange is its homely atmosphere. Family members can visit whenever they want and are always guaranteed a lovely welcome.

My goal at work every day is to make sure every resident is happy and enjoying a stimulating, fulfilling life. I think the only way to achieve this is by making sure that each resident receives truly individualised care from people who’ve invested time in really getting to know them, their needs and their experiences. It’s also important to me that family members are happy with the care that their loved one is receiving. Getting great feedback from relatives is very rewarding for everyone on our team.

Outside of work I enjoy being outdoors, taking walks, going for bike rides and generally spending time in the countryside. Many residents enjoy spending time outdoors too, so we like to get out and about as much as possible, in the local area and also to the coast.
