Mum arrived at Hawkhurst House back in June 2025 due to the deterioration of her dementia. Although it took her a while to settle we could not have asked for a better place or team to help look after her well-being. The home is so beautiful and so welcoming with everything done to make that hard transition as easy as possible. The staff were second to none they were excellent from the greeting you received by the receptionist, to the management team, all carers, nurses, entertainment team to cleaners, literally every person you came across were amazing and obviously loved there work. Mum only had a short time with the home as she sadly passed away mid August but I honestly don't think I could have chosen a better place. Mum was seen smiling, laughing and joining in with all the brilliant activities which I had not seen in a long time and that's all thanks to the brilliant Hawkhurst House team. Thank you all and keep up the excellent work.

Reply from Chris Walton-Turner, Manager at Hawkhurst House & PAU

Thank you so much for the wonderful feedback. As you say, your Mum was only with us for a very short time, but she quickly became part of the family - involving herself with chores and activities and having a good old chat and laugh with residents, staff and visitors. She is very much missed by us all and we can only thank you for choosing Hawkhurst House and entrusting your Mum to our care.

We are so very lucky to have found this home. Both our parents have been here. This November they will have been here 4 years and we have not for one moment worried about either of our parents. Sadly we lost mum recently and the end of life care for Mum was incredible. The staff and the management are so caring and kind. We stayed two weeks here by mums bedside and the staff were so gentle with us whilst caring for Mum. The teams and of course the Management keep us up to date constantly and are very supportive. Dad is very happy and content here in his own little world and we cannot thank everyone enough.

Thank you so much for the very kind feedback. I know I speak on behalf of the whole team how much we loved looking after your Mum and continue to try and ensure your Dad feels part of the Hawkhurst House community. I remember meeting you all for the first time nearly four years ago and how worried...

All the staff have been so very attentive.
My mother is nearly 99 yrs old and I think she's getting the best possible care.

She's encouraged into the lounge to be sociable with others and each day there is something to stimulate the mind/body.

I really enjoyed my 2 weeks at Hawkstone, a lovely easy going atmosphere, very needed, the staff are very kind and lovely as well as the others members of staff. The physiotherapist and use of the gym were used in my recovery from a knee replacement and I really benefited from the rest and care - not to mention the cakes!

When our mother first came to stay here it was on a hospital discharge pathway and our initial dealings with the management seemed positive. However as time went on (she was there for 8-9 weeks) the care delivered by the staff was very poor. We recognise that our Mom could at times be difficult, she had quite a few healthcare needs and could at times be depressed. But I don't think this would be unusual when caring for elderly, dementia patients and that training would be in place so the staff would know how to deal with this. Instead the so-called carers told her she was known as Moaning **** and often ignored her buzzer, and were rude and unhelpful and made very little attempt to communicate with her. They put her in incontinence pants instead of assisting her to the toilet and on at least one occasion lowered her mattress all the way to the floor knowing this stopped her getting out of bed (she had some mobility with a walker but couldn't get up off the floor).

Reply from Gail Watkins, Registered Manager at Hawkhurst House & PAU

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. We are truly sorry that the care did not meet your expectations. The team at PAU are virtually the same team since we opened and have received extensive training. The call bell system is monitored and any call taking over 5 minutes which is rare...

I had a very comfortable and pleasant few weeks. My room was large and well equipped with sturdy furniture. The staff were marvelous and willingly gave as much attention as necessary. Visitors were welcome and could help themselves to refreshments, my husband even joined the exercise class! The big central room had a dining area, plenty of comfortable chairs and a large television in the center. The games area was the other end with a long table for games and a jigsaw table. All meals could be taken in your room and there were quite a lot of residents who never appeared.

The gym was well equipped. All in all, I enjoyed my stay. Thank you to everybody.

I cannot rate Hawkhurst House PAU highly enough. The carers, nurses and management were excellent in looking after Mum and us as a family. All staff were smiley, friendly and couldn't do enough for us. The carers and nurses treated mum with the utmost dignity and kindness. I cannot fault anything they did. Even the cleaners, laundry staff and catering staff were helpful and friendly. Communication with management was excellent. Hawkhurst House PAU is the best and highly recommended.

My mother was in Hawkhurst House for over 4 years. She was treated with care, dignity and respect at all times throughout her decline. Every single member of staff was warm and welcoming - from cleaners, cooks, care staff, nurses and management. Each would take the time to talk to mum when passing her room.

The care staff are arranged in cohorts, so mum knew them all very well. They were like family to her in her later years. This is a huge improvement on care homes that have ever-changing carers on rotas.

I was kept up-to-date on mum's care and progress at all times, and management were always available for a quick chat if I had questions. The management is very hands-on, not tucked away in a distant office. The activities team do their utmost to engage residents, and there is always something interesting going on. Visiting was always a pleasure in a lovely environment, and the in-house coffee and cakes were a lovely treat when mum was no longer able to travel in a car with us.

Thank you for taking the time to write this lovely review and please accept my apologies for my late response. We all had a soft spot for your mother and admired her for doing all she could to hold on to her independence. She certainly kept us on our toes as we tried to come up with ways of keeping her safe but ensuring she could still do the things important to her.

Both my parents came to Hawkhurst House requiring different needs. Each has received personalised care to a high standard. The staff are kind, courteous and very willing to discuss any issues. It is always a pleasure to visit, despite the declining health of my mother. Communication is good with managerial staff as well as with the cleaners, cooks, night staff.

My uncle and aunt have been at Hawkhurst House for around 2 1/2 years and during their time there they have been well cared for by all the staff.
My wife and family, etc have all been made to feel very welcome. We have been made most welcome at barbecues and other events which has created a lovely atmosphere in the home.

I wish to thank all those dedicated carers for their super care to all who step through the door.

I have visited Hawkhurst House on many occasions in recent years to visit my sister's parents-in-law and on every occasion, I have been so impressed by this wonderful care home.
The staff are so friendly and couldn't be more caring and kind - they are amazing and build up such lovely relationships with the people they care for.
Hawkhurst House is impeccably clean. It is bright and welcoming with spacious bedrooms and communal areas - as well as the beautiful terrace and gardens and residents can join in activities with others or find a quiet corner to enjoy a book in peace. When visiting my friend, I joined in a group chair exercise class and was most impressed with it and also what fun it was!

I have had experience of other care homes and Hawkhurst House far exceeds these in every way - offering such a high quality of care in a wonderful environment. I would like to say thank you to all the staff (and also to my sister's dear parents-in-law) for making my visits so uplifting.

Hawkhurst House has looked after my father-in-law and mother-in-law for nearly 3 years (the former died 18 months ago, but the latter is still resident). I cannot fault the kind, careful and affectionate care they receive(d). The premises are light, airy and clean, and there is plenty to do, including using the lovely garden and greenhouse. Excellent care home, more like a beautiful hotel. The rooms are well furnished with all resident's needs. All the staff are very caring and compassionate. The staff spend a great deal of time with the residents. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The food is first class, freshly cooked each day. The day room is well used by the residents as are the beautiful gardens. Or if you prefer there are some lovely quiet corners where you can go and read a book and relax.

The visitors are also catered for. You may join your resident for lunch or there are snacks and tea whenever you feel the need for refreshments.

My mother was discharged from the hospital in April to Hawkhursy House. She was unable to walk due to a fall. The care she received was excellent. The staff were very caring. The room and facilities at the home are extremely good and modern. Unfortunately, he health issues got worse in the last month of her life. In her final days, staff were sitting with her even though she was not aware of them. Very caring.
