The chef was caught giving multiple pieces of mouldy bread to my dad and the other residents. This is a hygiene notice, please sort this problem out or we will go further with this matter!

Reply from Chris Walton-Turner, Manager at Hawkhurst House & PAU

Thank you for raising this concern and for agreeing to discuss this with me. As I explained on our phone call, we have investigated this and spoken to the chef. The chef confirmed that there was a loaf of bread in the cupboard which had gone mouldy. He said he took slices from a 2nd loaf which did...

Very happy with the care that my Father is receiving in this lovely environment.
They are friendly and welcoming to visitors and appear to have genuine relationships with the residents.

The living quarters are spotless and the gardens are well-maintained and attractive.

I would like to say a very big thank you for making my stay at Hawkhurst House so comfortable and caring, not a fault with all the staff. The physiotherapy department was very helpful to me now that I can walk with the sticks with confidence.

Signing in system didn’t work.
We noticed no newspapers were distributed nor the resident was asked if she would want a newspaper.
Other than that the home seemed OK and provides good care.

Our friend seemed reasonably happy and well cared for.

Thank you for taking time to submit a review. We are sorry that the signing-in system did not work for you. Apart from 2 males (I think it was two unless the same person does day and night shift) the staff were angels. Unfortunately, there were at least two staff short on each day and night shift which often led to longer waits. The food was tasty but they need more fruit and more salad! Also the puddings here most days are custard and a piece of cake! The nursing staff are excellent, one member of staff in particular!

Reply from Gail Watkins, Registered Manager at Hawkhurst House & PAU

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to hear that 2 of my staff did not meet your expectations. With regards to staffing levels, unless someone is off poorly at short notice, we are never short of staff and in an ideal world perhaps patients feel there should be more. We will continue to...

Fantastic staff in all sections, nothing too much trouble for any of them very polite and helpful was very impressed as I have previously work in a care home. The free tea and cakes were a lovely touch as we travelled (me and my sister) for an hour to get to see our brother. Thank you to each and everyone if you.

Hawkhurst House has looked after my mother for more than a year now.
The staff have always been understanding of the needs and wishes of their residents.
Always cheerful and welcoming.
The house is well-designed and has plenty of space, the rooms are easy to live in, clean and well-kept.

Managers are kept aware of individual circumstances and support their staff and residents.

Reply from Chris Walton-Turner, Manager at Hawkhurst House & PAU

Thank you for the kind feedback and thank you for entrusting your mother's care to us. The Care Companion model used here at Hawkhurst House allows the team to really get to know their allocated residents which means they can quickly spot any changes and keep the nurses and managers informed.

My husband was released from hospital after spending one month there. He was really down and depressed. It was nice for him to have a room on his own, and the room was comfortable and clean. He was to come and go within the home as he pleased so as to make some friends. The staff did all they could for him to make his stay pleasant. Care was taken looking after him both physically and mentally. Having spent a couple of months with you as was family we felt he was ready to come home. Such an improvement but we still need to keep pushing him to do things. Many thanks for your help.

Truly excellent team, worked to get Mum as fit as possible. Nurses, physios, occupational therapists, social care, management, all determined to support her to achieve her goal of going home. Due to a series of infections it wasn't possible, but she was brilliantly cared for while she was a resident there. All the staff were friendly and helpful and I was made to feel so welcome all the time. The resident is given the tools and loads of support and it is truly up to them how far they can go.

My mother lost her mobility following a fall & 7 weeks in hospital moving to Hawkhurst House in December2022. The home was welcoming & friendly, from reception & management to all the staff on the "shop floor" & my mother stayed there until she passed away in May 2023. Care was delivered with compassion, dignity & kindness. The home provided an excellent birthday tea for her and us as a family in the April to celebrate her 104th birthday. We were able to make my mother's room more personal with her paintings on the walls & we were able to make tea in her room on our visits. Without exception the staff were always willing to help and all appeared to enjoy their work. The end of life care was excellent and we were given the privacy that we appreciated so much at that time. I have no hesitation in recommending Hawkhurst House to others searching for a caring place for a loved one.

Reply from Chris Walton-Turner, Manager at Hawkhurst House & PAU

Thank you so much for your kind words. It was an absolute to honour to have provided care to your mother. She was a remarkable and lovely lady. We remember her birthday well, how happy she was particularly having those she loved around her that day.

My dad who suffered with dementia and underlying health issues was given a place here after a period in hospital and could not return home. It very rapidly turned to end-of-life care.
We are relieved he spent his last days in such lovely surroundings, being cared for by wonderful staff. He was shown respect and dignity every step of the way, and nothing was too much trouble.
The building is like a nice hotel, with large on-suite rooms, large enough for visitors. There are also several outdoor spaces, including balconies for all to use and a welcome place to gather your thoughts. Sadly my dad wasn't able to take advantage of most that was available, but we are comforted that everything that could be done, was and we are truly grateful for that.

It's a place I would happily go myself, but hopefully not yet.

I would like to thank all the team at Hawkhurst House who looked after my mother after being transferred for rehab to Hawkhurst House. Sadly she never recovered from the operation and died on 20th March 2023. The care she recieved under extremely difficult circumstances was fantastic, and communication with both the care team and doctors surgery was exemplary. The facilities were great and clean. Staff were always on hand if needed. Thank you for making a difficult time more acceptable.

My aunt was resident during September she came here from hospital where she was barely eating and had really low morale. When visiting her in Hawkhurst House PRU, she was much happier in herself and I saw her appetite come back as she felt very settled and comfortable here. She was over the moon to get her nails painted. The staff were very kind and friendly at all times. Unfortunately, my aunt passed away while staying here, but the staff on the day treated us and my aunt with care and dignity. I would highly recommend Hawkhurst House PRU to anyone.
