Would like to thank all at Watermead Rose for looking after my nana so well up til the end. Always had time for her even though she was bedbound and my nana always smiled when she saw the care staff. Lovely, caring staff, very friendly, nothing too much trouble.

My mum went into Watermead Rose for respite care, having visited the home on a couple of occasions to look around and being sold the dream we thought this would be the perfect place but it was in fact a nightmare.
Some of the carers lacked experience in using equipment which suggested a lack of training,
she was left hanging out of her wheelchair on a couple of occasions. No one seemed to read the care plan. Long wait times when pressing the buzzer, for help, when you went out into the corridor to look for help it was often like a ghost town, lack of visibility of staff on the floor. Left in bed most of the time and often not washed and dressed for breakfast until late morning, sometimes was unsure if she had been washed at all. After 5 stressful days of feeling like we had to be there to care for my mum and make sure she was safe, we took her home again. This was our first experience of respite and we didn't get a break at all!
Reply from Aarti Popat, Registered Manager at Watermead Rose Nursing HomeWe are so very sorry that you and your mother's experience of Watermead Rose fell below your expectations. As you are aware all concerns raised by you at the time were fully investigated by our internal team as well as by the local authority safeguarding team who took no further action. We have though taken your comments on board from our face-to-face meeting and we will use your review to continually improve the service we deliver for all our residents and their families. Once again, we are very sorry that the experience did not meet your expectations.

I couldn't wish for my dad to be cared for in a better place. Placing our dad in any home was a hard decision but one we knew was for the best, he is taken care of far better than we could ever do ourselves and I am so grateful. It is a lovely place to be, always spotless and such a nice atmosphere.

Mum came to Watermead Rose four weeks ago. The staff have all been very friendly and informative. Mum has settled really well, she always looks clean and tidy. The team are very caring and when I've asked for something they've been there straight away. The facilities are excellent, which is what I'd
expected from a new home.

I am very impressed with Watermead Rose and how they were able to help and look after my nana after her first care home could no longer meet her needs. She is very settled and no longer trying to get up all the while. She has made friends (residents and staff) and seems much more happy. She seems to
like the smaller living area and more homely feel in the lodge. I am also very impressed with all the staff who are very friendly and helpful.

My dad is now in care at this home, although one of the hardest decisions we have ever had to make, we couldn't meet his needs anymore after the toughest year of our lives. Watermead Rose's care gas made everything so much easier. All the staff genuinely care about the residents. The care home is beautiful
and is kept spotless, with lovely meals. Thank you Watermead Rose Nursing Home for all of your support and guidance.

We as a family were treated with respect, the home was welcoming and calm. All the staff from management, nursing down to housekeeping were welcoming and caring. At the end of my husband's last few days he was treated with compassion and dignity, even the funeral director commented on how lovely the
staff were. Thanks again.

This care home has been so important to me and my family. They have cared for my husband for five months and there aren’t words to express our gratitude. miss our contact with them. We recommend this wonderful nursing home wholeheartedly.

The home is very welcoming on entering and staff are friendly and polite. I do feel there are sometimes not enough staff, especially where some residents require 1:1 care, leaving others waiting long periods of time to be taken to toilet etc.
Entry and exit at weekends can be difficult waiting for
staff members.
Some meals appear 'dry' with no gravy or sauce offered.
Reply from Lorraine Shannon, Customer Relationship Manager at Watermead Rose Nursing HomeThank you for taking the time to leave a review. We value all feedback and we are pleased to learn, following your review, your concerns have been discussed with the home manager. We would like to reassure you that any resident with 1:1 care, would not affect the care delivered to other residents as this individual would have a dedicated 1:1 carer. We can confirm that none of our residents are in receipt of 1:1 care and our staffing ratios are based on need and are currently 1:4. Should you feel your concerns have not been fully addressed, please contact info@macccare.com for further support.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.891)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.891) out of 10 for Watermead Rose Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 73 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 72 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.891 for Watermead Rose Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (799 Excellents x 5) + (56 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (8 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 866 Ratings = 4.891
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Watermead Rose Nursing Home is based on 72 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 80 registered maximum number of service users is 16, which has been reached with 72 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Barry Lockwood

Job Title: Resident Ambassador Joined: 2023

My name is Barry, and I am one of the Resident Ambassadors at Watermead Rose Care and Nursing Home. I used to be the Deputy Warden at St. Mary's Church. I used to enjoy amateur dramatics and was a member of The Falcon Players for many years at Stamford Hall Theatre in Leicester. I really enjoy living here at Watermead Rose and can still enjoy my hobbies of poetry, piano music and supporting Leicester City FC. I feel respected and listened to. The Care staff are always ready and willing to help. The whole home is beautifully decorated. The rooms are very generous and comfortable. The cuisine is excellent. Everyone is welcome here, and it has been lovely to become friends with the other residents and the staff. Christina is great and arranges lots of activities; there is always something going on. I really enjoy the quizzes. Watermead Rose should be at the top of the list for anyone looking. Please come and say hello when you are visiting.
