Overview

The Review Score of 9.1 (maximum of 10) for Crossley House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 14 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Crossley House in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

Detailed Breakdown

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.371 for Crossley House is calculated as follows: ( (87 Excellents x 5) + (60 Goods x 4) + (16 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 167 Ratings = 4.371

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.69 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Crossley House is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 11.6 positive Reviews (58 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 8 Reviews ÷ 11.6 Target = 0.690

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

9.1 Crossley House has a Review Score of 9.1 (9.061) from 14 Reviews

My mother in law has been at Crossley House for the past few months. As a family, we can't believe the change in her since the staff started to care for her. They really can't do enough in supporting her and other residents on the dementia unit. All staff are so friendly and make us feel welcome whenever we visit no matter what time we go. We were really worried about making the decision to put her in full-time care but we were so wrong. Crossley House is a beautiful home it's more like a five-star hotel which is currently being decorated to a high standard. For anyone thinking of putting there loved one into a home you must visit Crossley House to see for yourself you won't be disappointed.

Thank you for your review. We are pleased to hear about your positive experience and appreciate your comments about our home.

My father died on 17 January at Crossley House, after a year's residence. He was not the easiest of people during this period, but throughout - and especially towards the end of his life - the care he received was exemplary. How on earth the Home has been assessed as Requiring Improvement is beyond me. The staff were kind, professional and did everything they could to make him as comfortable as possible. Liaison with the family was good. I cannot praise their efforts enough. My mother is still a resident and is receiving a high, sympathetic standard of care.

So sorry to hear of your loss, please accept our condolences. Thank you for your review and kind words. I hope that in time when you and your mother look back on the time that your dad was with us it gives you comfort knowing that he was well cared for.

My wife was a resident for over seven years with Alzheimer's. The care and attention was top class. The family was sure that this helped to prolong her life.

My friend has become more confident and her health has improved greatly since moving into Crossley House where she receives personalised care and attention. Her room is beautiful, clean and she was encouraged to make her room personal fetching in pictures, ornaments etc, that means a lot and have sentimental value to my dear friend. The staff are polite and engaging and can not do enough, a real credit to the management team and the home. the meals are wonderful. There is a salon and a bar for all to use with friends and family. A beautiful place to be.

A wonderful, open environment with beautiful decor and furniture, furnishings that could adorn a 5-star hotel. The home has friendly, approachable staff with a manager for whom nothing is too much trouble and makes you instantly feel at ease. My friend feels completely at home and enjoys a variety of activities as well as chatting with friends in the comfortable lounges.

Thank you for your review and kind words about our staff. I'm so glad to hear that your friend is enjoying the activities and that she is settled and feels at home.

Water jugs not changed daily. Bed tray tables not emptied and cleaned daily. Flower vases allowed to dry out or flowers droop over. Creams and lotions for hands not always wiped out of handles and doors. Internal bell nearly always ringing and doesn't appear to be enough staff around quite frequently, especially 5pm onwards. You can visit and sometimes not see any staff anywhere. Security numbers only changed once in 18 months.

Thank you for your review. Your comments are extremely important to us and our residents’ health and wellbeing is our absolute priority. We will discuss your feedback with the home’s manager to help them continually improve their service.

The care staff do what they can. There is not always the support of management. Short staffed most of the time or two new starters together and they do not know the residents or their needs. Not always amenable. Dining room is not always set up or the correct menu displayed. Standard of cleanliness is not always good. Overall satisfactory, but many improvements could be made in many of the above comments.

This is the first time I've seen Mum smile and laugh for years. Before she came in she had told carers she didn't want to live. What a change. I can't thank staff enough.

Thank you for your review. This must make you feel so much better knowing that your mum is happy and well looked after.

Since my wife came to live at Crossley House in March 2016 I would like to say that the standards overall have gone down. It now seems to be stabilising somewhat.

Staffing levels are extremely low and very concerning. Medication given late is the bigger concern to me.
The staff are super efficient and do their job very well but due to being so overstretched, I feel the residents are suffering because of this.
However, this is my only concern for Crossley House. I am happy with every other aspect.
Please sort staffing levels out.

Crossley House made my uncle feel welcome, safe and secure. The staff were always friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The home was always clean, tidy and well decorated. The food was great and uncle ate well, enjoying his food. (This was something we struggled with at home.) I would recommend this home to anyone looking for a great place to live for a relative.

Mum is new to Crossley House. I feel confident she is in a safe/friendly caring environment. As a family, we are happy with level of care and facilities including staff and management who always seem happy to solve any problems/queries. More importantly Mum is happy and content. A true weight lifted knowing she has the right care.
