Crossley House warmly welcomes anyone in need of residential care, including those living with dementia, Huntington’s or Parkinson’s.

Located close to the village of Thornton, the home boasts excellent accommodation and facilities including pleasant and spacious interiors, private gardens, a hairdressing and beauty salon plus a shop and excellent social areas with a residents bar and dining bistros. All bedrooms come with en-suite facilities and premier rooms are also available for those looking for a larger living space.

Care homes get such a bad press, my Mum went into Crossley House in December, none of us knew what to expect. It was a pleasant surprise. She got such a lovely warm welcome, staff put her and me at ease and did their very best to ensure that as much communication could be had between my mum and her
family, during the second peak of the pandemic. She was helped to settle in and nothing was too much trouble. She has been treated with the utmost care, respect and dignity and the staff are amazing. Her room is lovely, she has all the facilities she needs, and the staff go out of their way to make the residents feel special, whilst at the same time maintaining a good level of professionalism. Pod visits have been great (when allowed by PHE) and they have been scheduled efficiently. I have to mention the food, as my mum does regularly - it is top-notch! My mum loves it at Crossley House. Would I recommend Crossley House - yes I would, without a shadow of a doubt. Thank you to an amazing team.
Reply from Alison Horridge, Customer Advisor on behalf of the team at Crossley House Care HomeThank you for your lovely review. We are so glad to be able to help you and your mum communicate in such difficult times. It is always nice to hear from family members feeling like their loved one is well cared for. I will certainly pass your kind words on to the chefs about the food! Thank you again.

Warm and lovely welcome for when my nan first arrived. Caring staff and nothing is ever too much for the staff, even down to the FaceTime calls and phone calls in lockdown. Forever grateful for the care you provide.

Fantastic care home. They treat my mum as if they were her family. Very reassuring during these testing times, very accommodating to us, as a family, when visiting in the pod. Especially when she recently had a Birthday, a cake and birthday banners were presented to her - it really made our day and
hers. Thank you Crossley House.

I cannot comment on value for money as I don't know how much my sister pays for her care. Before the pandemic, I visited every week. I cannot fault the facilities and her care. She has nothing but praise for the staff. She is always dressed lovely and her room is always clean.

Staff are friendly and welcoming. They treat Mum with respect and address her appropriately. The home is always clean and odour free. Staff acknowledge Mum's preferences and endeavour to meet them. Food seems good, although Mum would complain even if it was cooked by a top chef. As we live some distance
away, they are good at keeping us up to date.

My eldest brother suffers from dementia. He has been a resident for four years. The first year was difficult for both him and the staff. The perseverance of the staff with care and patience paid dividends and I am fully satisfied with both the service and treatment shown to him.

My mum has been in the home for over 3 years, she has been on end of life for a few months.
We as a family can’t praise the staff enough, nothing is too much trouble we ring every day and recently we have been able to videocall due to not been able to go in, because of the Coronavirus.
The home is
excellent, clean, and very caring,
I wish I could name everyone but they are all fantastic, so good with mum nothing is too much trouble.
I will just mention the activity organisers, just this week they had someone singing outside the home at the windows where residents could hear, this was fantastic for them, also playing songs to mum that she can reminisce.
Thank you so much.
You are all great.

My partner has been in Crossley House for 18 months and overall I am pleased with the care/facilities, especially over the last few months when things have improved. More activities and one to one talks are available and a full complement of staff has no doubt contributed to this. Still ongoing issues
but I feel things are on 'the up'.

All staff members have been very professional at all times. I was very reluctant at first to leave my husband at Crossley House as a short-term resident following a stroke. Within days I knew I had made the right decision. Everyone has been so caring, compassionate, making such a homely atmosphere for
all residents. My husband's care has been paramount, this has been supported by everyone here, day and night staff. It's a pleasure to walk in each day to all the smiling faces, the place feels alive. We can't thank everyone enough for the support and care we have both received. Couldn't recommend 'Crossley House' enough. Thank you.

We've had a lovely afternoons activities, it was a credit to the activities coordinator, everyone thoroughly enjoyed it, all of us are really happy.
This is my 7th year here at Crossley House and I have had some lovely times but this afternoon beat them all. We played bingo, quizzes from over the years
and cards, it made us all happy and that's what we want.
I've no complaints at all. I'm nearly 97 years old and don't feel like 97 at all and it's all due to the lovely care and activities we have.

My mother in law has been at Crossley House for the past few months. As a family, we can't believe the change in her since the staff started to care for her. They really can't do enough in supporting her and other residents on the dementia unit. All staff are so friendly and make us feel welcome whenever
we visit no matter what time we go. We were really worried about making the decision to put her in full-time care but we were so wrong. Crossley House is a beautiful home it's more like a five-star hotel which is currently being decorated to a high standard. For anyone thinking of putting there loved one into a home you must visit Crossley House to see for yourself you won't be disappointed.

My father died on 17 January at Crossley House, after a year's residence. He was not the easiest of people during this period, but throughout - and especially towards the end of his life - the care he received was exemplary. How on earth the Home has been assessed as Requiring Improvement is beyond
me. The staff were kind, professional and did everything they could to make him as comfortable as possible. Liaison with the family was good. I cannot praise their efforts enough. My mother is still a resident and is receiving a high, sympathetic standard of care.

My friend has become more confident and her health has improved greatly since moving into Crossley House where she receives personalised care and attention. Her room is beautiful, clean and she was encouraged to make her room personal fetching in pictures, ornaments etc, that means a lot and have sentimental
value to my dear friend. The staff are polite and engaging and can not do enough, a real credit to the management team and the home. the meals are wonderful. There is a salon and a bar for all to use with friends and family. A beautiful place to be.

Water jugs not changed daily. Bed tray tables not emptied and cleaned daily. Flower vases allowed to dry out or flowers droop over. Creams and lotions for hands not always wiped out of handles and doors. Internal bell nearly always ringing and doesn't appear to be enough staff around quite frequently,
especially 5pm onwards. You can visit and sometimes not see any staff anywhere. Security numbers only changed once in 18 months.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.866)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.866) out of 10 for Crossley House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 40 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 40 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.866 for Crossley House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (414 Excellents x 5) + (62 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 477 Ratings = 4.866
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Crossley House Care Home is based on 40 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 58 registered maximum number of service users is 11.6, which has been reached with 40 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
