Crossley House warmly welcomes anyone in need of residential care, including those living with dementia, Huntington’s or Parkinson’s.

Located close to the village of Thornton, the home boasts excellent accommodation and facilities including pleasant and spacious interiors, private gardens, a hairdressing and beauty salon plus a shop and excellent social areas with a residents bar and dining bistros. All bedrooms come with en-suite facilities and premier rooms are also available for those looking for a larger living space.

Meal times are an important part of the day at Crossley. Residents can enjoy delicious home-cooked food with the company of others in the pleasant dining room or in private. Every month, there are themed meals for a bit of extra fun.

The home plans plenty of favourites into the menus, but also talks to each resident on arrival about likes and dislikes, and any special dietary needs. All dietary preferences and requirements are discussed regularly. Out of hours snacks and refreshments are also available from the Bupa night bite menu.

Activity areas support personal interests and a healthy daily lifestyle, while carers are available throughout the day and night. Regular activities include exercise classes, crafts, quizzes and games, cooking and painting.

Advance bookings for short stays available.

The care staff do what they can. There is not always the support of management. Short staffed most of the time or two new starters together and they do not know the residents or their needs. Not always amenable. Dining room is not always set up or the correct menu displayed. Standard of cleanliness
is not always good. Overall satisfactory, but many improvements could be made in many of the above comments.

Since my wife came to live at Crossley House in March 2016 I would like to say that the standards overall have gone down. It now seems to be stabilising somewhat.

This is the first time I've seen Mum smile and laugh for years. Before she came in she had told carers she didn't want to live. What a change. I can't thank staff enough.
Reply from Jayne Duck, Customer Services Administator at Crossley House Care HomeThank you for your review. This must make you feel so much better knowing that your mum is happy and well looked after.

Staffing levels are extremely low and very concerning. Medication given late is the bigger concern to me.
The staff are super efficient and do their job very well but due to being so overstretched, I feel the residents are suffering because of this.
However, this is my only concern for Crossley House.
I am happy with every other aspect.
Please sort staffing levels out.

Crossley House made my uncle feel welcome, safe and secure. The staff were always friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The home was always clean, tidy and well decorated. The food was great and uncle ate well, enjoying his food. (This was something we struggled with at home.) I would recommend
this home to anyone looking for a great place to live for a relative.

Mum is new to Crossley House. I feel confident she is in a safe/friendly caring environment. As a family, we are happy with level of care and facilities including staff and management who always seem happy to solve any problems/queries. More importantly Mum is happy and content. A true weight lifted
knowing she has the right care.

During my residence at Crossley House everything has been very satisfactory and there has been a very steady, kindly, thoughtful care all the time. Conversation with staff and other residents pleasant and free and helpful.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.866)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.866) out of 10 for Crossley House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 40 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 40 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.866 for Crossley House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (414 Excellents x 5) + (62 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 477 Ratings = 4.866
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Crossley House Care Home is based on 40 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 58 registered maximum number of service users is 11.6, which has been reached with 40 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
