Mum’s been in Sunrise for 7 months and although she took a while to settle in, she is now slowly beginning to accept being there... although she still has her moments! My brother and I feel she is being well cared for and we always receive phone calls should she fall or if paramedics are called for. The carers who phone us are considerate and understanding of both her needs and ours. She has recently been in hospital and on her return to Sunrise she said everyone was being so kind to her. We were so grateful for this as we are no longer allowed to visit her because of the coronavirus. We often have to send email requests for mum and they are answered quickly and efficiently and our questions are always answered and acted upon. Many times when I phone her and worry that she doesn’t answer, the concierge on duty is always happy to go and check up on her. All this and the weight of the uncertainty of Covid-19 on their shoulders, we feel comforted that we chose the right place for mum to reside.

Sunrise of Hale Barns appreciate moving into a care home can be an unsettling time. This is why we take the time to engage with family members and friends of the resident to make the process as smooth as possible, to get to know the resident on a personal level. We are pleased to hear your mother has settled in well.

Without exception, all the daytime staff, whether concierges, carers, cleaners or whatever, are wonderful. Their patience and kindness with the residents are so reassuring. They also take time to know us, the family, which makes us feel very welcome. Mum regularly needs to go to the loo at about 4 am. She presses her buzzer and it takes a long time to be answered. When someone does arrive she is told that she will have to wait until there are two people available to help, which is understandable as she is virtually immobile. However, that wait must be torture for Mum and embarrassing if she can't wait. I recognise that night time staffing must be difficult but I have mentioned this on numerous occasions following conversations with my very embarrassed mother and nothing has changed.

My mother has now been at the home for 3 years and is very content. The home offers many activities and she has found a new interest in painting. The long term permanent staff are excellent. It is a shame that agency staff are still required to make up the numbers.

Moved in 18 months ago and in general, I have settled reasonably well. There are some issues which I'm not always happy about. It's very good in many respects but falls down occasionally.

Do not live locally, but on every visit greeted warmly and recognised. On this occasion, I had to speak about a medical condition of my mother's with a senior member of staff. This member of staff was extremely helpful and sympathetic and I have confidence that my mother will be dealt with well. Yet again we are having a happy visit and they have even managed to fit us in for lunch.

I am really happy with the care my Dad receives for a life with dementia and in his 90's. He needs a high level of care and monitoring. When a carer speaks to him a big smile appears on his face. His life is varied by activities, entertainment, trips out and good food. I am kept informed of his health and any changes. The carers amaze me with the level of patience and kindness. It's great to see a mix of male and female carers too. The atmosphere is one of happiness and I enjoy visiting him because it feels like he is in an extended family.

The home is clean, modern, warm, beautifully decorated and furnished, like being in a very nice hotel, with a lovely relaxed homely feel, we knew from the first time we visited it was the right place for Mum and Dad. Care on Reminiscence is excellent, we had complete peace of mind they were well cared for and supported with good liaison/support for us as family. As well as dementia, Mum had a difficult healthcare need and this was managed well. Staff always seemed kind, calm, gentle and very patient. Quality and choice of food and drink is excellent. Plenty of daily activities and residents are encouraged to be involved. We were able to visit at any time and made very welcome. It was during the last weeks of Mums life when she was very ill that everyone at Sunrise really excelled themselves, supporting her and us with the utmost compassion and dignity whilst she was receiving palliative care, meaning she was able to spend her last weeks “at home” rather than hospital.

The home presents a welcoming, friendly, professional environment. It is clean, well appointed and spacious. My father-in-law feels secure and comfortable. The positives are knowing he has someone when he has a fall, for instance; companionship of like-minded residents; help with medication; staff are warm and kind.
He would prefer meals that are plainer, less 'spicy'.

We would prefer more 'formal' visits by the GP rather than the informal arrangement.

My father is a resident at Sunrise, Hale Barnes. It is a well run care home with a highly motivated team. Residents are treated with respect and all the staff know and speak with residents using their first names. The quality of the surroundings and rooms speaks for themselves. My father quickly settled at Sunrise and made a new circle of friends.

Sunrise has given my sister peace of mind, so important for Alzheimer sufferers.
She is 87 but physically fit for her age and the staff organise trips to interesting places, take her to mass and have activities in-house to occupy the mind.
Her room is very pleasant.
The house has a lovely ambience for the visitor too.
Before going to Sunrise she had had cancer and other appointments and would phone in the middle of the night to ask the time etc.

Now she doesn't have to worry, the staff are her memory. I too worry less.

My mother-in-law went into the home for respite but then was unable to return home. She was quickly given a lovely new room. The staff were very efficient. Surprisingly mother-in-law settled quite well after other failed attempts elsewhere.
She is now deciding whether to stay as she probably is unable to manage with care at home.

We are very happy she is considering this as many other suggestions over the years have failed.
