Moving my elderly mother to Carlton Court Care Home was never going to be easy, however, the management and staff went out of their way to make the process as stress-free as possible.
From our initial enquiry to move day, they thought of everything. On arrival, the staff made sure my mum was welcomed
and made comfortable.
As a family, we feel Carlton Court will do their best for our mum.
Reply from Andrew Wrensch, Community Development Manager at Carlton Court Care HomeThank you for this wonderful review. Moving can be a very difficult and stressful process. We work hard to make the process as easy and stress-free as possible. It's wonderful to hear that Mum is now settling in. We are very glad to welcome her and your family to our Carlton Court family.

My mother, aged 96, spent a month at Carlton Court Care Home for respite care recently. Her room was beautifully clean and well-fitted out, including an en-suite shower room.
On visiting her, she was clearly being wonderfully cared for. Her hair had been done at the on-site hairdressers, her nails
had been painted by one of the staff and she looked lovely.
Mum's memory is poor so on her return home we were delighted to be given pictures of the activities she had joined in with during her stay.
Mum herself said that the staff were all wonderful and that she couldn't have wished for anywhere better to stay if she wasn't at home.
We would be very happy to repeat the experience and feel reassured to know Carlton Court is the right place for Mum.

All good. Having been highly recommended by my neighbours, Carlton Court has lived up to all my expectations and more. The staff are exceptional, always friendly, ready to talk about any concerns. The surrounding are clean and comfortable, which adds to a feeling of well-being. I feel confident that
the care is best possible. I would like to thank everyone, and especially one gentleman, who leads this great team. Also, another member of staff, who is welcoming always.

The staff have been wonderful settling my mother-in-law into her new home from home. She has made new friends and is enjoying the activities, which was surprising as she is quite a reserved character! Obviously feeling comfortable there.

From the moment I made the initial enquiry, I have had nothing but first-class service, the care and attention to detail given to both my mother and myself are outstanding. The staff have not only looked after my mother but supported me in this very difficult time.

I have to say from the outset that my review will be a bit different to others because my mum's background is Indian and she manages only very little English. The lockdown has been isolating but Carlton Court have helped us to keep in touch daily on WhatsApp using headphones and a tablet; the carers
have got used to the equipment and tried their best to keep us connected. As lockdown eases Carlton Court have been very good at providing us access to Mum in her room and let us test at home; they have followed DHSC guidelines unlike some. We have had a good two-way dialogue with management and even if we have not agreed on certain issues, I have felt listened to and my queries have been attended to in a timely manner. The reception staff and nurses and have been very engaging. As you would expect in any home, we have our favourite care staff and some not so! Carlton Court is a very good environment, only wish that they would have more "karuna" style activities for Indian residents but I do understand the challenges.
Reply from Julie Bignell, Home Manager at Carlton Court Care HomeThank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback of your experiences throughout the pandemic. Carers are trained and knowledgeable when caring for my mother living with advanced dementia. My mother is kept very busy with numerous activities and has built trust in her key worker and team members, all of them who genuinely care for her. My mother is happy here, and we made the right decision to
send her here.

At 97 my mother in law was starting to struggle living at home. Despite having carers in every day she wasn’t coping well. We thought a period of care, maybe a couple of months would reinvigorate her and she would be able to return home. That was over a year ago and she is still there. Not because she’s
not well enough to return, but because she really enjoys staying at Carlton Court. The carers and management are so helpful and obliging and go out of their way to see that she is well looked after and stimulated. They make a fuss of her and are always encouraging her to go to the many activities.
The home is always spotless and well maintained.
If you are looking for a care home in Barnet I would strongly recommend you look at this home. I don’t think you will find a better one.

In what has been an upsetting time, the staff at Carlton - from our main point of contact to the wellbeing team, the carers and nurses have been amazingly helpful, kind and supportive. We have had suggestions of rooms, ideas for care plans, and feel that Carlton has really gone out of their way to make
moving my mum in as stress-free as possible. It's made what could have been a horrible experience, reassuring and of great comfort. Highly recommend.

My mum was discharged from hospital six months ago, with an acute delirium condition that did not lift as soon as expected. It was during the first wave of covid, which was a very difficult time in the health service. I had visited Carlton Court and was very pleased that she was able to be offered a
place there. Sadly it turned out that mum's delirium did not recover, and she required intensive support from carers used to dealing with delirium and related dementia. I can say that Carlton Court has been the perfect place for her. The home itself, the facilities, the management staff and the carers are fantastic. They definitely have the resources to deal with a person in this condition, and especially under the very difficult circumstances surrounding the covid pandemic. I am very pleased that Mum is well looked after at the home, and although contact with her has been necessarily restricted due to covid regulations, I can see that all staff have made huge efforts to keep her safe.

My mother spent her last 11 months in Carlton Court. We could not have hoped for more holistic, compassionate care. The staff on Elder Ward were superb, as were the activity coordinators and other staff. When mum first moved in she was physically sprightly but wakeful at night. The home coped with this
- moving her to the best-suited floor for her needs. Over the next year, she continued to decline. Mum could be quite paranoid and aggressive at times. The staff were always proactive suggesting the GP be involved and this led to Help from the Community Psychiatric Team. The GP was also very helpful, especially as mum’s condition deteriorated. Lockdown did not work well for mum she struggled to understand why we couldn’t visit. In the last week of her life, we were able to visit for periods and say our goodbyes - the staff were incredibly supportive. The home was also extremely professional and careful during the pandemic and this can be seen in the low number of cases seen.
Reply from Julie Bignell, Home Manager at Carlton Court Care HomeThank you very much for sparing the time to give us your feedback. We always strive to provide person-centred holistic care to each individual we have the privilege to care for and it is lovely to hear this is what we achieved.

The staff at Carlton Court have been wonderful. I was very apprehensive about placing my mother into care but the experience has been excellent.
When my mother arrived in the home with dementia, she had difficulty walking and was very introverted. With the care and constant attention that she has received
she is now walking, albeit slowly and she is also feeding herself and her general outlook is very positive. I cannot praise the staff highly enough.

My mother, who suffered from severe vascular dementia, spent nearly a year at Carlton Court before she passed away in August. Throughout her time there she received excellent care from the wonderful staff and, despite her poor health and deteriorating mental state which made caring for her very difficult
at times, she always seemed to be very well looked after by the team of specialist carers and other staff who seemed to genuinely care about her and her well being. The home was always clean, warm and tidy and the food and drink was good, varied and plentiful. It was no surprise that the home managed the COVID crisis very well with very few cases to my knowledge. It was not easy to watch Mum deteriorate over the final year of her life but it was of great comfort to know that she was in such a good place and we would not hesitate to recommend Carlton Court to other families.

Mum just moved to Carlton Court from another care provider, and we're just amazed by how fabulous everyone at Carlton Court are - it truly is a shining example of what care should be - intelligent, professional and well-rounded. The team clearly communicate with each other, and have spent time working
out what makes Mum happy, spotting patterns in her behaviour within a few days that the staff at her previous home hadn't detected in over a year. They call me regularly with updates, Mum has two key workers, and the wider team are also clearly valued and very professional. Everything is well-thoughtout and handled sensitively so that we had a kind and careful conversation about end-of-life at our review, it left us reassured that Mum's and our views will respected. I am so impressed, and relieved that Mum is in such a great place, and can't express my appreciation enough. Thank you!

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.964)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.964) out of 10 for Carlton Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 58 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 58 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.964 for Carlton Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (666 Excellents x 5) + (25 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 691 Ratings = 4.964
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Carlton Court Care Home is based on 58 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 85 registered maximum number of service users is 17, which has been reached with 58 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
