My mother has been at Carlton Court since March 2017. In that time she has received what I consider to be excellent care for her requirements. If there are any issues to be dealt with the staff will always contact me to advise and assist. I can ask no more. They are polite, courteous and helpful in
every way. My mother is being very well cared for thank you.
Reply from Johanna Coughlan, Home Manager at Carlton Court Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to send in your comments. It was really lovely to hear of your experience of care provision at Carlton Court. I will make sure all the team are thanked.

I have been delighted with the kindness, professionalism and efficiency that I have encountered with, both the introduction to Carlton Care Home and the subsequent care my Husband has been receiving. Every effort has been made by all members of staff to make his life untroubled and comfortable. Family
and friends have also been made welcome. I cannot recommend this home too highly.
Reply from Johanna Coughlan, Home Manager at Carlton Court Care HomeThank you for your lovely comments which I will pass on to staff members who have been caring for your husband. It has been a pleasure getting to know both of you.

The improvement seen in my 91-year-old since arriving at Carlton Court has been remarkable. The staff have worked hard to understand her needs and to focus on the important things first. Thoroughly impressed with everyone from the most junior member of staff to the managers.

My mother spent a month convalescing at Carlton Court, following a stay in hospital.
She had some issues being away from her home environment, but the excellent care of staff in Carlton Court helped her rebuild her confidence and strength and she has come home stronger and more positive than ever,
armed with many helpful strategies to improve her life.
The break gave me some much-needed respite too.
Reply from Johanna Coughlan, Manager at Carlton Court Care HomeThank you for your feedback. I was particularly pleased to read that your mother's stay at Carlton Court has increased her confidence for her return home and will make sure all the care team are thanked.

My Mother-in-Law arrived from a 19-day spell at an NHS Rehab facility following a fall and a bleed on the brain. This had caused short-term memory issues and mobility problems. She came to Carlton for a month's respite care while a wet room was built at her home. She arrived having been institutionalised
for a month so it was lovely for her to be in a comfortable environment where she was treated like a person rather than a patient.

Her self-confidence has been growing and her mobility issues are much improved. The staff continually work with her to improve her mobility and to get her ready to return to her home.

Although keen to go home, naturally, she is happy with her stay at Carlton. The staff have taken time to get to know her and also her husband who visits her daily.

It is a comfort for the whole family to know she is being well looked after in a safe environment.

Reply from Johanna Coughlan, Manager at Carlton Court Care HomeThank you for taking the time to provide feedback about your mothers stay at Carlton Court. I know all the team will miss her when she returns home but I am also very aware of how much your father misses her. It has been a pleasure to get to know them both. I will pass on your kind words to the team.

Calrton Court Care Home in Barnet has some wonderful staff who looked after my Father in his last days with great care, always respectful of him and his needs. The home was clean, the food was excellent and the nursing and other staff wonderful not only to my Father but so kind to both myself and my
brother. Thank you to a nurse who looked after my Father and the other nursing and care staff. Also, the administrator at the care home was extremely helpful and helped us enormously. Thank you to all of you.

I would definitely recommend this care home to anyone who wants a clean, well-organised, caring place run like a home-from-home with kind, friendly and very professional staff. Perfect for elderly people who can no longer care for themselves.

Thank you to all the staff there.

Upon a brilliant introduction, we decided to admit my father to Carlton Court Care Home. Upon arrival, the staff were very welcoming, management were present and made sure my father and family were taken care of. They were very sensitive and attentive and gave comfort and advice to my mother and I.
The care team and nurses are excellent. Most are energetic and emit positivity towards the patients but some I feel are overworked, underappreciated and tired. Despite this, I feel that my father is receiving excellent care and his needs are being met.

Continued staffing problems - particularly at night - resident support and supervision very poor at night.
A year on and still unable to manage pad provision.
A succession of disengaged and poor management.
Poor communication.
Poor complaint handling and resolution.
Lacks transparency and poor
record keeping.
A very costly and upsetting experience - again.

Plus - good food, some good carers (badly supported), newly redecorated (lounge furniture badly positioned for wheelchair and those needing hoisting).

I posted my 1st review in 2015. My partner has now been living in Carlton Court for 2 years.
Carlton Court really is an amazing care home. Both staff and management are very approachable and available to talk through any concerns I may have, and act on them promptly. They do everything in their
power to make my partner happy and comfortable. I visit on a daily basis and feel this home is happy and welcoming. The staff know the residents so well and understand their likes and dislikes.

I can't recommend this care home enough .... 5 ***** from me.

I am very pleased with the way my partner is looked after generally. I find sometimes there is a lack of common sense used. I will always praise one lady when she is in charge, such a caring young lady, nothing is too much trouble. Also another carer is good with my partner especially shaving him. The
other staff are very good. Mostly my worry is when agency staff are looking after him some do not speak to him when they are doing anything to him. The home itself is beautiful.

The best way to describe care home experiences is probably when things go wrong. As they do in plenty if instances, but we can confidently say Carlton home staff, nurses and managers all react positively to resolve arising problems or issues relating to medication, personal care and the well being of
all residents come first. Their happiness and comfort is paramount. The great matters of Health and Safety are taken very seriously as well as a positive complaints procedure. On the whole the one-to-one staff are proactive, extremely well trained and communicate with families and residents professionally. Without a doubt based on our experiences we would recommend Carlton Court to everyone.

I was invited to view the work done at Carlton Court, by your Community Development Manager. It was plainly obvious that the manager, within her telephone manner, has a very professional attitude and approach with regards to quality of care for the elderly. That was very heartening to see.
The premises
are obviously well designed to suit purpose, function and organisation, looks well in keeping with high professional standards. This is predicated by the fact the place was being repainted when it so obviously did not requite redecorating. That spoke volumes!!

I sent my next of kin to stay at Carlton Court for rehab for 3 months. She is a very demanding person who needed specialist care and nursing, also physiotherapy, Carlton Court went out of their way to provide that. Her condition improved markedly during her time there and despite her impossible demands
Carlton Court staff were able to cope, albeit with some difficultly, which was not of their making.

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.963)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.963) out of 10 for Carlton Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 52 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 52 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.963 for Carlton Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (596 Excellents x 5) + (23 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 619 Ratings = 4.963
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Carlton Court Care Home is based on 52 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 85 registered maximum number of service users is 17, which has been reached with 52 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
