Romford Nursing Care Centre is one of several purpose-built homes from the Ranc Care portfolio, which supports people with elderly care and nursing requirements, as well as people with physical disabilities and various forms of dementia.

The care centre has many facilities in place to make residents' time in care comfortable, while enjoying a number of entertainments that include a cinema room and itinerary of regular outings.

In addition to this Romford Nursing Care centre has a dementia living area called 'Amy's Park', which was designed to give older people greater independence and happy living for their years ahead. With nostalgia corners residents are able to participate in one-to-one reminiscence therapy. Iconic memorabilia is in themed areas such as music, art and crafts, exercising and sports just to name a few.

Features on Amy's Park include doors and hand rails being a distinctly different colour from the walls to ensure a person living with dementia can easily distinguish between them. The environment has been designed to enable and promote the independence of living with the individuality of the person taking precedence over everything else, even the residents own room door can be personalised to improve orientation, recognition and encouragement of being 'at home' with particular colours and door numbers.

Meal times are geared around enabling residents living with dementia to eat independently foods they like and also to enjoy this social experience. Dining crockery and cutlery are coloured and arranged so as to encourage people living with dementia to clearly see their meals and promote a positive meal time experience

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

The Queen's hospital recommended this care home to me, as I needed to find a safe place for my mother to live and not too far away from me to travel to. I was most impressed. Staff are friendly and helpful and the home was very clean and the rooms are lovely. They have activities and outings.

My mother has really settled in the home, is always smiling, laughing and singing and that is all down to the very friendly and helpful staff. She loves them.

Mother in law has been at the home since February 2017. The home is kept beautifully clean and well presented. All of the staff are really friendly, well turned out and helpful. The hardest decision was having to put mother into a home but the transition was made smoother with the support of care home staff. My mother in law is now settled and says she enjoys the entertainment in the home, she also says the food is of an excellent standard.

Very happy with this care home which had a lovely large quiet room for mum and her belongings. Plenty of activities happening with great care, empathy and security. Impressed with the menu and choices offered in the dining room or in own room. Plenty of areas to socialise or opportunity for peace and quiet. Garden could be nicer but pleasant enough in good weather. Highly recommended.

Always found the care home to be clean and fresh smelling. The rooms always look clean and so is the bed linen. My mother seems happy, she is always clean and tidy.
The staff are very friendly and appear to look after each resident to their needs. I think sometimes more staff is needed on duty but they all work very hard.

My mum doesn't eat very much but her condition is catered for on a daily basis.

I would be happy to recommend this care home.

The manager of Amy's Park and her team have made a very homely and welcoming floor, the bedrooms and eating TV area, it is just like being in your own home.
The staff are very caring and take their job very seriously.
The staff seem to go over and beyond their normal working hours.
They run a number of daily activities which test and stretch the residents and stimulate the mind and work the body.
The hairdresser and nail bar help boost the feel good factor of the residents.

The care and support to visitors is appreciated. Resident problems when I have been present have been prompt and sensitive. BIG THANK YOU. I was so glad to hear of the activities programme. The size of the rooms are generous and calming. Safety and security seem to be handled well. Many thanks for helping my special sister.

I visited a number of homes prior to my mum's admission. We chose the home as it was very clean and welcoming and the residents were happy. Mum settled very quickly and has formed a good bond with the permanent staff. She is not keen on agency staff and finds they are not as efficient on the unit. Mum feels safe and secure and tells me the staff are very kind to her. I am happy with her care.

The entertainment, activities and fun from Bingo to singing and dancing. It's all geared to the resident's needs. The activities coordinator who supplies most of what's going on is exceptional and gets on really well with the "inmates" as my Dad likes to call himself!

Thank you for your review I am pleased to see you Dad enjoys the activities with as he says the other "inmates"... I hope you both and your family have a wonderful Christmas, thanks again.

We have found all aspects of the care home to be very good. The adjustment for us as a family was very tough but the care staff, cleaners, office staff and all people involved have helped us to make it as smooth as possible. We can come in at any time and the staff keep in touch with us and are available for us.
Thanks to everyone for all that they do here.

My brother has been in the home for four weeks. In that period I have seen a major change in his confidence. He is communicating and joking with the staff and generally very much at home.
He is eating well and settled.
The staff are friendly and obviously taking an interest in the wellbeing of their guests 5*

My 92 year old mother has "early stage" vascular dementia and requires 24/7 supervisory care. 12 months ago, we had to find a care home to share the responsibility of looking after her in unison with her "live-in" carer. Having visited several homes in the borough, the Romford Nursing Care Centre stood out as by far the best fit for my mother's needs. She now looks forward to her time there, having made numerous friends. All the staff, from the management team to the carers and nurses have always been very professional, accommodating and they treat my mother with the dignity a lady of her age deserves. There are numerous activities, including painting, flower arranging, sensory pet visits, bingo and hairdressing. Her room is always clean and is very comfortable. We are extremely pleased with the choice we made and would not hesitate to recommend this home to others.

My mum has been a resident here for one month and she has been shown nothing but kindness. The care she receives is very good and she really enjoyed the recent Halloween party (so did I). I can't wait for the Christmas festivities. The food is very good. I can ring anytime to see how she is. The home is very clean. I am very happy that my lovely mum is being well taken care of.

Mike Higginson, Chief Operating Officer at Romford Nursing Care Centre responded to this review on 25 Nov 2016:

Dear Christine thank you so much for your positive review it is lovely when kind people take the time to appreciate what is good in care especially when sometimes there is so much negativity in the media as has appeared sadly this week again. Thank you.

My father has only been in the Romford Nursing Care Home for a short while but to see the change in him is fantastic. He had previously spent some time in the hospital. He wasn't happy and began to shut down. He had spent a week earlier in the year in the care home and had settled in very nicely but became unwell. No fault of the care home. After much negotiations with the home, hospital and social services because of outside problems, he is now back at the home which he had asked to go back to. He is very happy and is pleased to be back. The cleanliness is very good. The staff are wonderful and that's right across the board from caretaker to management. Nothing is too much trouble. He enjoys the food and has begun to put on weight. He has started to mix a little bit with other residents and is asked if he wants to get involved in some of the activities which are on offer. All in all, as long as he is happy we are very happy.

My husband spent 22 months on Manor Unit at The Romford Nursing Care Centre. During that time he had exemplary care and found all the staff to be kind, caring and extremely helpful. When my husband came out of hospital to spend his final weeks the care was first class. My husband went into hospital without a pressure sore in sight but ten days in hospital saw him return with very bad lesions. Within a week of him being back, with the vigilant care he received we saw a massive improvement, some had actually healed entirely due to the excellent care he received from all the staff. I visited almost daily and was always made to feel welcome, the staff were kindness itself.
