To all the staff, a heartfelt thank you for your outstanding care. My mother arrived at the end of November 2023 with weeks to live. Your kindness, empathy, compassion and yes, dare I say love, made her end of life happy. You helped her find the strength to live a further 6 months. Every day she told
me of the little unnoticed kindnesses from the staff on the second floor. I witnessed the dedication of the staff not only towards my mother, but all the residents, often when they were totally unaware. The last few days of my mother’s life were very difficult, for her and our family, all the staff did everything humanly possible to make my mother comfortable and to support us as a family. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you have done. You work in a very difficult environment and are truly underappreciated, but what you did made a difference! I don’t know what we would have done without you. You are all wonderful human beings. Thank you.
Reply from Sarah Williams, Marketing Manager at St Pauls Care CentreOur sincere condolences for your loss, the team at St Pauls Care Centre are very grateful for your heart-warming review and kind words. My lovely Mum has advanced Alzheimer's. From the moment she arrived at St Paul's, we knew we'd struck gold. The team were ready to greet and settle Mum in. It was a very smooth transition from hospital and they quickly learnt Mum's needs. The health care assistants and nurses are wonderful. They treat
Mum with love, respect, dignity and gentleness that we didn't realise could be possible from non-family members. Housekeeping keeps the home immaculately clean and Mum's clothes get magically washed.
Food is always plentiful and tailored for Mum's needs.
The quarterly relatives meetings provide a forum to engage with management.
There's a calm, friendly and inclusive atmosphere where residents and their relatives can socialise. Mum's been resident for 6 months now and she has been looked after wonderfully. As a control freak, I felt nervous about trusting and outsourcing something as precious as my Mum's welfare to anyone else, but I could not be happier with St Paul's.
Reply from Jay Demetrious, Marketing Executive at St Pauls Care CentreThank you deeply for your heartfelt review of St. Paul's. We're truly touched by your kind words and are thrilled to know that your mum has found such wonderful care with us. Your trust means the world to us, especially given your initial apprehensions. We're committed to maintaining the high standards of care, cleanliness, and communication that you've highlighted. Should you ever need anything, please don't hesitate to reach out. We're here to support you and your mum every step of the way.

I have been very pleased with the close attention of the staff. They are all very friendly which I have appreciated. The permanent residents who are able to use the dining room and the lounge have been very good company for me. I've never spent time in a care home before so my judgement is difficult
to make. There seems to be a lack of soundproofing which I've been affected by during the nights.
Reply from Sarah Williams, Marketing Manager at St Pauls Care CentreThe team at St Pauls are very grateful for your feedback, we are pleased to hear that you have enjoyed the companionship in our social areas and hope that your experience has left a positive mark. Mum has been at St Pauls since April 2022. In that time the carers and all the staff have been kind, caring, helpful and professional. I like the consistency of staff, having dementia Mum is wary of strangers and having the same members of staff regularly helps with this and other anxieties. Mum is
pretty much nonverbal but the staff seem able to understand her needs. The activities team always make sure there is something to do for the residents and organise regular events and parties which friends and family are invited to. Security is good and I have every confidence that once I leave her Mum will be safe. The nursing staff keep on top of health issues and have regular medication reviews with the GP surgery allocated to the home.
Reply from Sarah Williams, Marketing Manager at St Pauls Care CentreThank you for your lovely comments, the team at St Pauls are grateful for your lovely words. We are pleased to hear that you feel Mum is safe and well cared for, if there is anything you need the team are always on hand to help.

Found the care centre clean, tidy, fresh and friendly. It was nice to see a safe and secure place for my cousin to stay in. Her room was a good size and with a window onto the world outside. Lovely staff, who were keen to help us. Lots of things to do. A cinema! Altogether, very nice indeed. My cousin
had no complaints and seemed happy and settled.

Our mum came to St Paul's in 2022. She was cared for by a fantastic team, and the staff were always letting us know how Mum was on a day-to-day basis. Our visits were always met with cheerful, friendly staff. St Paul's is an amazing care home. We sadly lost Mum on the 4th of September 2023, and the
staff were compassionate and kind right up until the end of her life.
Two members of St Paul's came to represent the home on the day of Mum's funeral; we class them both as family.

St. Paul’s has delivered excellent care for my mother over the four months since she arrived. Her dementia symptoms were challenging and her prior care home struggled. The care staff at St. Paul’s showed remarkable patience, resilience and compassion, while the nursing staff liaised carefully and conscientiously
with doctors to find a medical balance to ease her distress. She is now fully engaged with the staff and activities on the unit and is very much more content. This is a wonder and such a relief to family.
This has all taken place in a light and airy, well-appointed and well-managed, purpose-built facility, where the residents are provided with good food options and frequent carer interactions and activity. Even the laundry and maintenance staff will chat and present a cheery demeanour to the residents. Family are welcomed wholeheartedly and communication is excellent, daily in person as well as through notices and regular meetings.

From first arriving at St Pauls Care Home in August 2023, my 98/99 year old mother has settled well. The staff are all so kind and pop in frequently to check that she has all she needs. Showers and clean clothes every day, means I can be confident of hygiene. The home is purpose-built and kept scrupulously
clean. Even though she doesn't join in, it's good to see other residents engaging in the many social activities laid on. There are no agency staff and the commitment of all from nurses, carers, cleaners, activity and reception staff is clear to see. Everyone is so welcoming. A real home from home.

My dad was discharged from hospital into the care of St Pauls Care Centre, Hemel Hempstead, in April 2023. He was 85 and had lost his mobility due to the spread of cancer into his spine, he also had Parkinson's disease which affected his memory and ability to make decisions. Dad was always treated with
respect and care, the staff at St Pauls are caring and compassionate. We couldn't have wished for any better care for him under difficult circumstances. Dad died peacefully on 2nd October and we are grateful for all that the staff did for him and the support they gave to the family in his final days. St Pauls deserves their CQC ‘Outstanding’ rating.

My mum went discharged from hospital into the care of St Paul’s Care Centre, Hemel Hempstead in May 2022. She was 94 and broke her arm following a fall. She lost her limited mobility and suffered confusion and delirium while in hospital and was very poorly when she got to St Paul’s. Slowly but surely,
with the excellent care she received from the nurses and carers, she regained some strength, but was never able to regain her mobility. I would like to say how grateful I am to St Paul’s for making my mum's last 15 months of her life so comfortable and give me piece of mind that she was being well cared for. She died peacefully last week. Thank you St Paul’s for all you did for her.

My aunt was a resident at St Pauls. We chose St Pauls based on the CQC rating and after a site visit, we immediately felt that my aunt would receive the care she deserved. We were not wrong.
All the staff from the nurses to the front desk receptionists were so friendly, professional and supportive.
The communication with us was first class. We were always informed of even the slightest changes in my aunt's circumstances. All the care staff took time to get to know my aunt, her likes and her dislikes so that they could provide the best possible care for her.
We feel so fortunate to have found St Pauls. We feel we could not have provided a better last home for my Aunt. I would also add that the GP surgery associated with St Pauls is first-rate and works extremely closely with both St Pauls and family members.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.895)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.895) out of 10 for St Pauls Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 44 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 44 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.895 for St Pauls Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (461 Excellents x 5) + (50 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 513 Ratings = 4.895
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Pauls Care Centre is based on 44 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 88 registered maximum number of service users is 17.6, which has been reached with 44 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
