This attractive and professionally managed care home rated ‘Outstanding’ in March 2020 by the Care Quality Commission, has been supporting the local communities of Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire and Dacorum for over ten years. Established and purpose-built with an excellent reputation, St Pauls Care Centre offers quality nursing, residential, convalescent and dementia care in an accessible but peaceful location.

An award-winning home manager and deputy manager have been leading the home since the day it opened, and a stable and skilled staff team provide responsive, compassionate, high-quality care to meet the changing and individual needs and expectations of each resident. The home does not use any agency staff and new staff are often recruited through direct referrals. The family ethos and the warm relationships achieved are greatly valued by both residents and visitors, and make St Pauls Care Centre a special place to live. The home is strongly connected to the wider community.

Comfortable bedrooms have their own en-suite shower, toilet and washbasin and are located in smaller unit living areas. There is a wide choice of day rooms including lounges, separate dining areas, a cinema room, hair salon, quiet lounge, and pub.

The charming garden is a favourite with residents, with its spacious areas for them to relax or socialise with friends and relatives.

The facilities have been designed to enhance resident care and quality of life, to optimise cleanliness and help minimise the spread of any infections; this includes wood effect flooring, hand washing facilities in every room and the use of hand gel dispensers throughout the home.

My mum has been at St Pauls for a few months now. She is well looked after by the lovely, friendly staff; they keep myself and family well informed, and at Christmas was even given a gift/present - a lovely, personal touch. She is always clean, and although she cannot express herself, I know she is
happy and content. The rooms are really lovely, and overall a great clean environment. Thank you to all staff.

The staff are extremely patient and caring. My husband has vascular dementia and can be very difficult, but they are always so good with him. He still has his manners though, and when he has been difficult, he does apologise! The food is so good as well. We are so lucky that he is well looked after.

We had to move my mother from her existing care home as her needs had become more complicated. At St. Pauls, she was welcomed with a smile, and although she has been a challenge, she is now happy, warm, clean and settled. The staff are endlessly patient and cheerful, and we are never made to feel in

My aunt is cared for extremely well, and know if I am unable to see her that I can phone and check how she is. Her nurses and carers are always so caring and helpful. My aunt always looks clean, even though she is bed-bound. St Pauls really cares about its residents.

Our mum lived at St Pauls for about a year and a half, and during this time, she was looked after so well and treated with respect and dignity, which was very reassuring to myself and my family. She developed very close relationships with a number of the team there, and we really appreciate the time

Having been unable to view the home prior to accepting a place, we were pleasantly surprised when we were finally able to see rooms/lounge/dining room. Staff are friendly and efficient and try to include dementia patients as much as possible in activities. The odd item of laundry went missing, but no
big deal. They make a fuss and beautiful birthday cakes for each resident's birthday, which is lovely.

From the moment I first contacted the home, I was spoken to with compassion and professionalism from the manager, reception and staff. Although it took my mum a while to settle in the home, she now classes it as her home and calls the staff her family. The level of service/care my mother received was very good. All staff are very caring and attentive. The family was satisfied. The communication from the office/management staff and carers/nurses was very informative. My mother's care was very good, and felt she was as happy as she could have been.

My beautiful mum came into your care in January 2021. It was difficult for both of us. But from the start the compassion, care and respect have been outstanding. In her last days, her dignity was maintained by all who cared for her and they really did care. The staff from reception through to her care

My friend has just died in St Pauls at 102. She has been there for about 7-years, and I was always very happy with the care she received. She was very well cared for. The staff were excellent, and I will always remember the manager on her floor, so sad that he died.

Words simply cannot describe the kindness, care and professionalism of all the staff who cared for my parents (both 87). It is impossible to single out any one individual nurse, carers, cleaners, chef, maintenance, laundry, activities, office staff and management. They were all truly exceptional. Sadly
Mum passed away whilst in St Pauls, the dignity and respect afforded to Mum were incredible together with the support they gave my dad and siblings. Following a period of mourning with his family, Dad has now returned to St Pauls as there is no other place he would rather be, and his children are taking great comfort knowing how well he will be cared for.

From the short time my mother was a resident at St Pauls, she was cared for respectfully and with dignity. It was important to have one single point of contact and all staff, without exception, were helpful and pleasant. Although Mum suffered from dementia, the patience and care demonstrated by the
