My wife has been a resident of Harbour Care Centre fir three years plus. During this time she has had her ups and downs and during these health fluctuations the staff have responded in an excellent manner, but during the day and at night.
During this time I have been required to respond to some administration
activities and the care centre has assisted me when required.
A recent CQC review has returned a "good" result which is well deserved.

My father arrived from hospital at the end of January and was resident until his passing at the end of February. I have found the standard of care to be excellent from both management, nursing care and auxiliary staff. Everyone made an effort to treat my father as an individual and took the time to
liaise with me and other family members in this time of greatest need.

My mum is being cared for following several long and protracted stays in hospital. The changes in her are remarkable and are down to the care she is receiving at Harbour Residential Home. The staff are amazing, the manager is very hands on and knows all the residents and their individual needs. Everyone
in the home is caring, the rooms are lovely and the meals are plentiful. Highly recommend.

Mum continues to be a well-looked after resident at Harbour Residential Care Centre, now for over 2 years. During this time, all the staff have made mum feel at home. They encourage all residents to take part in activities, mum loves it when there is an opportunity to sing. Staff are always happy to
discuss what is happening and ensure all of mums needs and requirements are being met. All staff are always very polite, and friendly and come across as people you can trust. They had excellent procedures in place to manage Covid and I am so grateful to them for keeping mum safe. I can't recommend Harbour Residential and all the staff highly enough - thank you.

My mother was a resident here for four years until she died in June 2022. She was 92, had vascular dementia and various health problems, and was the longest-standing resident at the time of death. The carers were wonderful, friendly, and sensitive to her needs. The home had flourished for several years
and was a happy place. Sadly, under new management this changed, and although the care staff were wonderful when my mother died there was no acknowledgement whatsoever from the manager or the head office. Not an email, phone call, letter, card, or anything to suggest she was any more than a number to them! The only thing we received the day after her death was a notification that the standing order for fees had ceased. The manager saw us come in to collect her things a week later and closed his door and didn’t speak to us. No care, concern or regret was expressed and I wrote to head office and manager to say how disappointed we were by this callousness and I did not even receive a reply!

My mum recently celebrated a birthday at Harbour Residential Care Centre. I have to say mum was certainly made the centre of attention. Her friends were made aware that it was her birthday and she had a lovely day in general from start to finish. A birthday cake was made especially for her by the resident
cook which I must say was excellent and was shared around everybody. All staff were polite and nothing was too much for them to do. A day I will not forget. Well done and a big thank you to all involved.

My wife and I visited for the first time possible in two years to see an old friend whom we had been told, was very weak. The welcome we received was very warm and friendly but more than this, the lady nurse came with us to our friend's bedside, and I was greatly impressed by the kind, bright and thoughtful
way she helped us all through a difficult visit. It was her kind and respectful words, her sincerity, and that she took time to be with us. We did not stay long because of the situation but I want to record that from my own five-year Nursing Home experience with my father, now unbelievably 30 years ago, the care and service we found today, to be outstanding. Everything depends on the staff and the moment but for us, this was very impressive.

My Grandad recently stayed at Harbour Residential Care Centre for respite for a week to give my Grandma a break.
As a health care professional, I was very particular about where he stayed, however the care he received was 5*. All Carers were attentive, caring, friendly and went above and beyond to
meet his needs.
Despite being in the middle of a pandemic we were still able to visit as a family (following all Covid rules) and we felt reassured that he was in good hands.
I wouldn't hesitate about using Harbour Residential Home, I would recommend it to friends and family and have had no concerns.

My husband went into Harbour Residential Home to enable me to have a holiday, he was made extremely welcome and comfortable. My mother was a resident for 5 years and the care and compassion she received was second to none. There were no cases of Covid during the whole period and indeed the whole staff were instrumental in ensuring every possible risk was negated.
The staff should be commended on their excellent management
of the unit and I can not praise them and the team highly enough!

I was in Harbour Lodge Care Centre for 7 days for respite care after falling and damaging my back. I was in a privileged position as I had all the loving care, delicious food and facilities that the permanent residents had and also brief interesting conversations with the staff. I was able to make a
kind of friendship with some of the residents and have short conversations with them. From the manager to the lady who started work while I was there, I found all the staff quite exceptional in the devotion they gave to their calling. I am so grateful to all of them.

From the day my father went in to Harbour Residential Care centre, his care was second to none. He went in on his 95th birthday and when he arrived there was a beautiful cake awaiting him and a big fuss was made of him. He settled in well as it really is a home and not at all an institution.
His care
was excellent and he could not praise the staff enough, they are all wonderfully caring and nothing is too much trouble. Furniture was changed in his room to make him more comfortable, his bird feeder attached to his window so that he could continue to watch his beloved birds and as many photos that he wanted hung on the walls
The food is excellent, in fact so good he actually put on quite a lot of weight during his time there.
During these Covid times they were extremely vigilant which gave me a huge amount of comfort knowing that they were keeping my father safe.
I really cannot thank them enough for his amazing care and would highly recommend Harbour Care Home

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2021

Wayne Price is the Manager of Harbour Care Centre in Portishead, near Bristol. Originally from Bedminster in Bristol, he has devoted most of his professional life to caring for the elderly. Price studied nursing at the University of the West of England in Bristol, qualifying around 2007, though his experience caring for others began at age 17 while looking after his mother, who had motor neuron disease.


His early career included working at several local NHS hospitals, starting as a staff nurse at Bristol General Hospital and eventually becoming a clinical services manager there. He also worked at South Bristol Community Hospital and the Bristol Royal Infirmary, focusing on elderly care and stroke rehabilitation.


After a back injury required him to leave 12-hour nursing shifts, he moved into care home management. His first role as a home manager was at Amarine Graves in Bristol. Before joining Harbour, he managed Pawnsme in North Somerset for Haven Care Homes. Price took a six-month break during the COVID-19 lockdown to adopt his three children.


Wayne joined Harbour Care Centre and oversaw a major transformation. When he arrived, the home had only 18 residents and lacked nurses, but under his leadership, nursing services were reinstated, two additional floors were opened, and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) rating moved from 'needs improvement' to 'good in all areas'. Price prioritizes a management style based on openness and delegation. He defines a good care home as being full of "fun," ensuring residents are "living" and engaging in their community.

Renata serves as the Deputy Manager at Harbour Care Centre. She has worked in the UK for almost 20 years and previously worked for another company for 13 years. She joined Harbour three or four years ago, about a year after Manager Wayne Price arrived, having known him from previous work.


Renata highly values the atmosphere at Harbour, she expalins "people here are warm, kind, and always smiling, which makes the home feel like family." She champions the use of consistent staff, she rarely utilises agency workers, as staff live on-site, which ensures quality and continuity within the home. There is little staff turnover, because everyone is happy at Harbour Care Centre and that filters down to the residents who form companionable bonds with staff.


As a nurse, she encourages her team—which includes many carers who are highly qualified nurses from overseas—to communicate openly and advises staff to "just treat our residents how you would like to be treat". She recalls a lady who arrived requiring nursing care and expected to be requiring end-of-life care but began walking (first with a zimmer, then without) after 3–4 months of attention and proper feeding. She promotes social engagement, noting that staff often organise their own activities, and dance and sing along with residents.


Renata finds it deeply rewarding when families express profound appreciation for the compassionate care provided and we are lucky to have her.
