Winifred Dell Care Centre is a friendly and relaxed place for elderly people to live. It is registered for residential and dementia care.

It encourages residents and visiting families and friends to be fully involved in the day-to-day life of the home including activities. All visitors are welcome to join residents for meals, when possible. Above all, staff believe in a flexible person-centred approach.

The large, enclosed garden areas provide a variety of outside space and are fully accessible for wheelchairs. The communal gardens have been designed to provide sensory stimulation and a safe haven for quiet times. Raised planters enable residents to be involved in planting and garden projects.

Catering and laundry facilities are created to provide excellent services for residents, as well as a safe and pleasant working environment for staff.

Excellent care and support by carers and activities staff. My mum is very hard to please at times but they try their very best. A recent ambulance trip to the hospital was very traumatic but mum had brilliant support from a senior carer and a night carer who in turn stayed with her throughout. I am
so very grateful as I was away at the time.

The facilities for visitors during the current pandemic are frankly appalling. An old garden shed approximately 6ft x 4ft has been placed outside a window of the home and is provided with light and minimal heat from a tiny heater situated high on one wall (everyone knows heat rises). Two folding chairs
are provided but only one is within voice range of a cheap microphone situated on a shelf below a single sheet of clear plastic that serves as a window. The door to the shed is immediately next to the chair and has very large gaps between it and the frame, causing cold draughts that the aforementioned heater cannot hope to contend with. On my last visit, the 'intercom' worked very spasmodically meaning conversation with the resident was totally hit and miss. I expected more from Exelcare than such a Mickey Mouse set-up. There is little need to confine visits to 30 minutes, as on a cold and windy day most visitors wouldn't want to occupy the shed (pod?) for any longer.

It gets very hot in summer on the first floor where my wife is and the building should be fitted with air conditioning. I have had some mediocre meals there and in particular, the boxing day meal had an assortment of cold meats which were very hard and impossible to eat and supposed to be served with
pickle, which was missing. I have twice taken in new clothes for my wife and by the following day, they have disappeared. Also, the remote control for the television that I took into my wifes bedroom disappeared and so I removed the television as it was impossible to work it.

The home and staff are very good. The only quib I have is my sister-in-law is on a dementia ward upstairs and they haven't got enough staff to take them out into the garden.

A well run caring home. My husband is very happy here. A larger room would have been better as he is a tall man. The entertainment is excellent. The staff are very professional and caring to all the residents. I would have no hesitation in recommending the Winifred Dell Care Home.

At this time during 'lockdown' to give a review of the home would not be a true reflection of the care they could provide.
The home has made efforts to keep families in touch by purchasing tablets for some visible contact. Due to restrictions, there are few organised daily activities, but the staff
on the unit do their best to keep everyone cheerful, and when someone is struggling with not seeing family, they try to lift their spirits by spending extra time with them. If the staff on the unit have concerns, then they do telephone to discuss matters, which is reassuring.
The staff did far on the VE Day celebration, which everyone enjoyed. However, the food is not always as appetising as it could be, either due to a change in supplier or kitchen staff not being available.
The staff really try hard to keep everyone fit, healthy and well cared for.

My mother is happy and well cared for. I am pleased that attempts are made to include and stimulate my mother although she chooses not to participate. Staff are very friendly towards residents and visitors. I live abroad and I am very pleased that my mother is a resident at Winifred Dell Care Home.

Really pleased with how my husband has settled down. He has only been in Winifred Dell for a matter of weeks and is happily taking part in life at the home. He looks happier and more content than he has for several months. He has Alzheimers (early-onset). So far, so good. I am hoping that he is able

The staff are friendly and helpful. Mum is always well dressed and looks clean. Mum's room is always clean and tidy. The only thing I don't feel I am kept up to date with is Mum's medical needs or requirements eg seeing the doctor when there is an issue.
