Safety measures during Covid were very good and kept us safe. The home is friendly and happy, with groups of residents making friends and also staff joining in. Other staff are excellent and go the extra mile to make us comfortable. I feel safe, cared for and well looked after here. I am treated like
an individual.

Mum went into Cambridge Manor in November 2019 so I haven't seen her very much since lockdown, but the home provided Zoom calls during this time which was really nice for us both to see each other. I feel there could have been a better introduction to the home for me as I wasn't really told anything
about how things worked. I was shocked when I was told my mother wouldn't receive personal care as she had been angry with one of the carers - she has dementia. Since then and having moved floors the carers are much more aware of her condition, and kinder.
Reply from George Bacon, Community Developement Manager at Cambridge Manor Care HomeThank you for your review. Lockdown was so hard for everyone involved, we tried so hard to make things easier for our residents and we are glad to hear that your video calls were meaningful. We now have a really great system for welcoming new admissions but we thank you for your feedback. Our carers will never be refused personal care due to their emotions, if needs changed we will take action for the sake of our residents. Your lovely mother is a pleasure to care for and we love that she is here with us at Cambridge Manor.

We found the home clean and inviting. The menu available was very good with a wide range.
Activity team were very good.
Reception staff good.
Garden unkempt and looked run down.
Most staff very good but there was a language barrier/understanding/communication issue which is less than ideal in the
setting.
Agree with a previous comment in regard to issue with some staff members and their ability to provide care.
Complaint made and moved to a new home.
Reply from George Bacon, Community Developement Manager at Cambridge Manor Care HomeDear Karen, Thank you for acknowledging our brilliant wellbeing/activities team as well as the fabulous food and drink that our kitchen team lovingly prepare for our residents. It's regretful that you feel the overall standard of the home is low, as all team members ensured that Mum was as happy and as comfortable as possible (for instance our home manager cutting and styling mum's hair in an attempt to make her feel better). Your praise of the cleanliness of our home in your statement contradicts the low rating for the same subject. We are extremely proud of all of our staff and all the hard work that they do to make sure that the home is clean and the residents are safe, happy and treated with dignity throughout their stay at Cambridge Manor.

I have just returned to my home in America from a very brief trip to visit my mother who is a Cambridge Manor Care Home resident. Covid-19 restrictions on travel meant that this was the first time in two years that I had seen my mother in person and it was also the first time that I had the opportunity
to see her at Cambridge Manor Care Home. I want to express my enormous gratitude to all the staff but in particular, to the ground floor staff for the wonderful care my mother receives and for their thoughtfulness in making my and my sons' daily visits occur with such ease. It was evident on my entering Cambridge Manor Care Home that this was indeed a very special place where the residents' wellbeing is always a central concern of the staff. Many, many thanks!

We have nothing but praise for the home. The staff have been so very helpful and caring and we could not have hoped for a better "home" in the true sense of the word for my mum.
We have been so impressed with the sense of joy and fun that the staff bring to their work and the activities they provide
for the residents.
Reply from Maria-Grace Smith, Community Developement Manager at Cambridge Manor Care HomeThank you so much for your wonderful praise of our lovely home. We are so happy to have your mum and you all as part of our Cambridge Manor family. We do have such fun here and love to ensure that the residents not only live in the home but thrive and enjoy everything there is to do in life. We can't wait to welcome you into the home to join us in these fun events now we are opening up more! Last year we hosted Wimbledon and bought the beach to Cambridge Manor, this year we are hosting a dog show (don't forget to enter your pup!) and turning our garden into the magical world of Willie Wonka's Chocolate Factory! We can't wait for you and Mum to enjoy it with us.

My mother initially came to Cambridge Manor Care Home for respite care after a spell in hospital. She soon realised that the care, support and company she received was far better than we could achieve at home - so she opted to stay. We are very grateful to Cambridge Manor for making her feel so welcome
and cherished in her last months.

The majority of staff have been excellent but a few carers have been rough and seemed uncaring.
It seems that care staff are very stretched, especially at busy times, and just a few more staff would be appreciated given the amount charged.
Reply from Maria-Grace Smith, Community Developement Manager at Cambridge Manor Care HomeDear Alan, Thank you for your review of Cambridge Manor. We are surprised to hear of your perception of our staff and are so sorry that this is how you feel. We can assure you that we adapt our team members to ensure that there are suitable team members present at any one time for the needs of our residents and to ensure their safe care. I am most upset to hear that you felt someone to be uncaring, and I will contact you directly so that we can get a full understanding of your experience and offer any training and/or support to ensure that no one else has a similar experience. This is not feedback we often receive (thankfully) so thank you for bringing it to our attention so we can investigate.

My mother-in-law moved to Cambridge Manor Care Home in April 2020 at the beginning of lockdown. It was a really hard adjustment for us all, my mother-in-law, us and the home. However, after the initial isolation period, where my mother-in-law was confused but very well cared for, she has got happier
and healthier as the time has gone on. We have had happy visits and seen my mother-in-law improve in health every time. I now can say my mother-in-law is more happy than I’ve seen her in a long time and from what I can see the care is amazing. I must say I’m very jealous of the entertainment provided and look forward to joining them when we are allowed. I have never seen or heard of care homes that provide so much for the residents to do. This keeps their body and brains active. Well done Cambridge Manor Care Home and thank you for the care you give my mother-in-law.
Reply from Maria-Grace Smith, Community Developement Manager at Cambridge Manor Care HomeDear Lisa,
Thank you so much for your review. It has been a difficult 18 month for everyone, including your family who had this big adjustment to negotiate. We agree, your Mother-in-law is now so very happy with us and we are so happy to have her as part of our family. We are so thrilled to read your kind words about our well-being and activities. We have really put a lot of energy into providing lots of fun things for our residents to do, especially over the last 18 months when visits were so limited. As we open up more and get back to our pre-covid ways (safely and still with testing, I imagine) we cannot wait to welcome you and your family to our future events so you can join in the fun too.

Cambridge Manor offers wonderful care and nursing services to its residents. I would like to commend the team and its management for their dedication, commitment and competence, always striving to live by truth, love and compassion values. They had to deal with extraordinary circumstances and are coping
so admirably with the Covid restrictions. With eternal gratitude, I would like to note their bespoke approach and recognising the importance of family members visiting and for enabling and facilitating the different types of visits during lockdowns. Since my father became a resident here in January 2021, I am witnessing consistent outstanding care and support for residents, superb quality of food and drink, a wide range of activities and entertainment – music and movies, crafts, puzzles and games, exercise, sensory and relaxation. I am so happy that my father is content and so well cared for.

Encouraging my mother to move to Cambridge Manor Care Home has been a long process, almost two years. Throughout that time I have felt supported by the staff with kindness and understanding that it was a difficult move both for my mother and for me. She moved in at a very difficult time, the Covid-19
pandemic put extra difficulties in our way but my mother has come through all this with the kindness, care and attention she receives.
Reply from Maria-Grace Smith, Community Developement Manager at Cambridge Manor Care HomeThank you for your kind words and lovely review. Your Mother deserves all the kindness, care and attention in the world and we are honoured that we get the chance to bestow it on her.

We have been very fortunate to find Cambridge Manor and for them to be able to accept my father as a resident. He has dementia. The previous care home was not equipped to cope with his needs. Since moving to Cambridge Manor my father has flourished. He is calmer, happier and healthier. The team learned
more about him in the first few weeks than the previous home did in 18 months. The attention to detail, individual care and connection to the family is exceptional. I can not recommend it highly enough.

My wife has been a resident in the Cambridge Manor Care Home since the 11th of March 2020. She requires full nursing care, has dementia and is almost totally disabled, with all that entails in terms of professional assistance, back-up and kindness. I was looking for somewhere reasonably close to where
I live in north Cambridge. I did my homework on the Internet and visited several establishments. The variation in standards was a bit of an eyeopener for me. However, Cambridge Manor Care Home stood head and shoulders above the rest in terms of its professionalism, organisation and sheer ambience. I was delighted when my wife was offered a place there. Within a very short time of her arrival, "lockdown" arrived. Nevertheless, the staff have kept me fully informed by phone of the problems they encounter and the steps being taken to sort things out. I talk to her on the phone daily and see her in the garden once a week. I feel she could not be in better or more caring hands.
Reply from Maria-Grace Smith, Community Developement Manager at Cambridge Manor Care HomeThank you for your time in leaving this wonderful review. We are so glad we provide the high standard of care and facilities that your wife deserves. She is a special person and we are so glad to have her with us. The lockdown period has been challenging for everyone, but I am glad that you have had the level of communication you require to be kept up to date on your wife's care and needs. We will continue to uphold these high standards and enjoy your visits to our garden. I will pass your kind words on to the team.

Although I've not been able to be with my mother during lockdown, Cambridge Manor has facilitated contact via Skype if required. The staff have also brought my mother to the reception so we can see her and talk to her on the phone which was lovely. The reception staff and nursing staff I have had
direct contact with during the lockdown have been so kind and caring at a time of stress for family members and I have been so grateful for that. My mother feels safe and comfortable in her home and that is important for her and the family.

Being kind and caring is in our nature, and I am so glad to know that this has continued during what has been a turbulent time for all of us. Our mother was becoming increasingly muddled with everyday life and physically struggling to cope. Following the death of her husband, she felt she needed to have increased support and care. Luckily Manor Care Home were able to offer her a room and we helped move her in the day before Coronavirus lockdown.
Sadly, but rightly, we have not been able to visit her in the home but speak to her regularly. At last, she has regular tasty meals with a glass of wine if she likes, she has company and a safe but lovely garden to enjoy. We are relieved and delighted she is experiencing such a four-star service, it does not bear thinking what would have happened to her had she stayed isolated in her home miles from anywhere with no-one close at hand to help. Thank you to all the caring staff for their patience and care of all the residents, how lucky we are to have such kind dedicated people looking after our elderly!
Reply from Maria-Grace Smith, Community Developement Manager at Cambridge Manor Care HomeThank you so much for your kind review. She has been through so much and we are so happy to see her thriving at Cambridge Manor - surrounded by friends and enjoying the homely environment. I noticed that you haven't scored the activities, I can assure you that Mum participates in a wide rage of activities throughout the day and she is a formidable domino player! I will send you information on how to access Mum's Care Plan which outlines what she does on a day-to-day basis including the activities, food and drink and so on. Some relatives are interested in this and some not - it's completely up to you and Mum (if she is happy for you to have this). We so enjoy having Mum with us and are looking forward to the time when you and your family can join us in the gardens for a cup of tea.

My mum has deteriorated over the last twelve months but since she is 99 this is hardly surprising. She has been expertly cared for by all the staff at the Manor who all exhibit astonishing levels of patience and understanding. The daily activities are all very varied and there are regular visits from
a young man who arrives with a range of animals to be passed around which is always a favourite. A weekly visit by a group of children from the local nursery school is also a big hit. There is a lovely garden which includes hens. The kitchen caters for all tastes and the dining room has flowers on all the tables and proper napkins. Little touches that make such a difference. The laundry does a brilliant job including labelling everything which is a great bonus and ensures clothes are delivered to the rightful owners.

I am so glad that you and your Mum enjoy the little touches which make Cambridge Manor special. We try to go above and beyond to ensure that the home is well-cared for and offers a 5-star service, whilst also making sure it feels homely and loved. The team are passionate about the service they offer and will be thrilled to read your kind comments on their work. The animals are a big hit with all of us and we will be sure to get them in again as soon as we are able. We miss your visits and so hope that you can join Mum and us for dinner again soon.

My mother has been in Cambridge Manor for three years and at nearly 102, is their oldest resident. My family and I have been truly grateful for the excellent care she and we, have always received. All staff are friendly and helpful and enable my mother to live an active and dignified life. She attends
the many activities on offer and is always beautifully cared for. It’s the little caring things that show they go the extra mile like stapling her newspaper so she doesn’t lose the pages when she’s reading it. Importantly, she says she is very happy and feels secure and confident. We, her family, have always valued not only her care but excellent communication. Any queries have been quickly addressed and we have always felt that there is a partnership in ensuring the best for her. There is definitely an ongoing two-way communication. This has continued through this difficult time of lockdown. So, our ongoing thanks to Cambridge Manor for looking after Mum so well.

Review from E P (Friend of Resident) published on 6 April 2020 Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
I visited my friend weekly during her stay. I found the staff helpful and polite. On my first visit, the security rules were explained and I was shown to my friends room. I found the home clean and cheerfully decorated.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.870) out of 10 for Cambridge Manor Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 75 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 74 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.870 for Cambridge Manor Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (793 Excellents x 5) + (75 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) + (6 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 884 Ratings = 4.87
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Cambridge Manor Care Home is based on 74 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 89 registered maximum number of service users is 17.8, which has been reached with 74 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
