Our parents moved to Sunrise in 2015, and both died this year.
The care and attention that they received, particularly in their final weeks and months when it was needed most, was quite exceptional. It was quite apparent that the staff were not just 'doing their job' but genuinely cared for their welfare.
Sunrise made every effort within the rules to allow us as their immediate family to have access to them, especially in their final days.

In short, we were greatly reassured that having taken the momentous decision to leave their family home for many years, they were definitely in the right place. A huge thank you to all concerned.

We are delighted we are with the care you and your staff give our mother at Sunrise of Winchester.
The pandemic has been the most trying of times, and despite this, your staff have remained loyal, dedicated, cheerful and extremely kind and professional. Images from around the world showed sometimes abandoned care home residents, as terrified staff stayed away. That has never been the case at Sunrise - your staff are simply amazing in the way they placed ‘duty’ above personal safety, and this is something I will never forget. And not only are the staff ‘present’ at the home, they truly work hard to make the residents feel happy and safe. Quite an achievement!

My mother is so happy at the home - something she misses no opportunity to tell everybody. The home offers her a great combination of activities when she wants to join in, or private time in her own room when she prefers to be alone. Mum loves the food, the companionship, the safety and the security that the home offers her.

Thank you all so very, very much for your continued care and support, not only given to Dad but to my sister and me also.

The path that Dementia has taken Dad on was all so frightening and daunting for my sister and me, and your help, understanding and patience meant the world to us. We couldn’t have got to where we are now without it.

The same is said to all the management, nurses and carers, chef and concierge that have looked after Dad when we couldn’t. The sacrifice’s some of the staff had to make during Covid to ensure they were able to continue their job hasn’t gone unnoticed.

The love, compassion and fun were given to Dad during his stay gave my sister and me peace of mind that Dad was being cared for and allowed us the luxury of continuing with our lives and having the quality visits and time with Dad without the day to day distress dementia brings to a persons life.

Please share our thanks with the team; you are all amazing!!

We wish you all the best, and thank you!

My mother needed a safe haven whilst we arranged for her to move closer to her family following a number of medical problems, so she came to Sunrise of Winchester for respite care.

She was well looked after, and her mental and physical conditions improved, as well as putting back much of the weight she had lost. Knowing that she was in good hands took away a major worry from my life whilst I arranged long term sheltered accommodation near to where I live. Thanks to the excellent care, she is now in a mental and physical state to be able to start living independently again.

Sunrise is slightly more expensive than some other care homes in the area, but the extra cost was money well spent to get her life back on track.

Thank all the staff of Sunrise Winchester, both past and present for the care they have taken of our father over the last 10-years.
Dad originally came to Sunrise for a two week respite period, but circumstances took over, and he became a permanent resident. Although Dad didn't choose his room, he enjoyed the view over the garden and the afternoon sun. He soon recognised the opportunity to live independently with the comfort of care. He quickly settled in, taking an active role in the Sunrise community and becoming one of the residents on the committee.

As Dad required extra care, Sunrise staff were always on hand to help to look after his medical and personal needs. A special mention must be made of how Sunrise handled the challenging Corona year. Although it was frustrating not being able to visit in person, it was very comforting to know that all possible precautions were being taken to keep him safe and the virus out. Thank you, Sunrise, on Dads behalf.

My lovely aunt spent her last four years at Sunrise in Winchester, first in Assisted Living and then with the Reminiscence team. Everyone was so friendly, cheerful and kind to her, respecting her dignity as her health declined and keeping us informed of her condition. She often told me how safe and comfortable she felt in their care, which gave us tremendous peace of mind.

In previous years, my father and my uncle were also cared for at Sunrise during their final months/years. It was particularly heartening to see how many familiar faces were still within the team over the years. They all do a wonderful job, and it has been a great comfort to us knowing how well they were all cared for during their respective stays.

My husband, who had dementia, only spent 23 days at Sunrise. However, I shall forever be grateful we were able to be close to each other every day for those last three weeks of his life, as a result of the enlightened enhanced visiting policy. The director of community relations was both kind and expeditious in making the arrangements for my husband to be transferred from hospital to Sunrise. I was impressed throughout his stay by the professionalism of all the care staff who looked after him and handled him with such tenderness, dignity and compassion ensuring he was as comfortable as possible. They were also patient in feeding him, taking as much time as was needed. Nursing staff and managers ensured that his last days were calm and peaceful. His daughter and I were treated with kindness by all staff including the concierge at our daily visits. It was all such a comfort and made a great difference after not having been able to be close to him for the first seven months of the pandemic.

My mother resided in Sunrise Winchester for a respite period. The atmosphere in the building is more hotel-like than a care home. The admission was extremely quick and efficient, and the staff on her arrival were very helpful caring and kind. I was very happy with the procedures for the prevention of Covid virus transmission, and the testing procedures were robust.

Any queries I had during her period of time there, were dealt with immediately and effectively, and I felt certain she was safe in their care. Her health certainly improved during the month. I must mention and thank two particular people who were both so kind to my mother during her stay. Thank you. Due to the Covid restrictions, I did not observe the activities or food and drink, nor indeed, any of the main communal rooms of the home.

Mum moved to Sunrise as an emergency the week before Christmas and at very short notice. From the outset, all the staff were understanding, compassionate and reassuring. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and no problem ever insurmountable. Mum has settled in well, has a lovely room and company when she wants or needs it. The standard of accommodation is very high throughout the home, with residents offered a variety of delicious food choices at every meal. I would have no hesitation in recommending Sunrise.

We decided Mum was unsafe in her own home and had become quite infirm, still enjoyed socialising and eating out, but was simply unsafe in her own home. We persuaded her to have a month in Sunrise, under the guise of getting her strength back, to see if she would enjoy it but mainly to keep her safe. It was a transformation and she delighted in the company and activities. She loved having her hair and nails done and actually had them done the week before she died. The staff are all simply brilliant and teased her mercilessly once they knew her character, but she gave as good as she got! When she started to deteriorate the staff were all fantastic treated her with respect and at no time was her dignity compromised. The care towards the end was truly humbling and we simply could not have asked for more. Support for the family was always there and totally non-judgemental. It was a very hard decision to put Mum in a home but I truly believe she would agree it was the right thing to do.

My mother moved into Sunrise Care Home in November 2019 at the age of 96 having lived independently until she became ill the previous July. The staff have shown care and consideration, warmth and friendliness throughout. Nobody talks down to her.

In May, my mother's health was obviously going downhill a little which culminated in her suffering a stroke. But due to the watchful eye of the medical staff and the team in general, she was found very quickly and admitted to hospital. She has made a reasonable recovery but has lost a little more of her cognitive ability including her vocabulary.

Sunrise have managed the pandemic admirably, providing as many methods as possible to contact my mum and looking after the residents with such empathy and care despite such difficult circumstances. What has meant most is the sacrifices individual staff members have made working longer hours and shielding themselves from the outside world to reduce risk to residents.

Sunrise Winchester reacted extremely quickly to the threat of the COVID-19 virus, putting measures in place even before lockdown was declared nationally. Visiting was reduced to protect the vulnerable residents, but I received updates from the Winchester team and more widely from Sunrise. Initially, the residents were COVID-19 free and whilst they were kept very busy with activities, the regular video calls with my mother helped put my mind at ease. Even after the virus affected some residents the staff stepped up again and worked so hard to get on top of the infection. I know that they have gone above and beyond what is expected; with some moving into the home and many working long shifts and more days a week than normal in order to avoid the need to employ agency staff who, by the nature of their work, could transmit the virus between care homes. I will be eternally grateful to these wonderful, dedicated, and caring Sunrise staff who risked their own safety to care for the vulnerable. Thanks.

I have been bowled over by the commitment and care the staff have given to my Mum during the coronavirus crisis. Even going out of their way to organise weekly FaceTime calls so that Mum and I could easily keep up regular contact and ’see’ each other. Nothing has been too much trouble and the staff haven't complained despite being in such a challenging situation themselves. They have taken great care with safety procedures and shown a lot of patience and resilience from day one. I am full of respect and gratitude. Thank you!

My newly widowed aunt moved to Sunrise in June 2019. From the start all staff were kind and caring, taking a real interest in getting to know her. The accommodation, food and activities are wonderful and really helped her to settle. She was able to create a home from home in her room, with her own furniture and pictures.
She thoroughly enjoyed all the activities, outings, flower arranging, visits from singers, school children, animals - it all made for an interesting and varied life. The family visited often and were always welcomed warmly. The Bistro's endless supply of tea, coffee, homemade cakes is a wonderful place to meet up.
During the current situation, Sunrise was well prepared. The staff have gone above and beyond in caring for the residents - taking a mobile phone to the room so that we could see each other totally amazed my aunt!

Sadly, she passed away last month, but it helps us to know that she was very well cared for and that staff she knew were with her.

Sunrise of Winchester has been home for my parents for the last 5 years, until that point they had lived a happy independent life of retirement. We selected Sunrise of Winchester because the senior team were reassuring and addressed our concerns and worries for this rapid change of lifestyle.
Five years later some of the staff have changed, but the level of support and dignity given, has not. The nursing care has been on the whole excellent and the close proximity to a very good medical practice as well as nearby hospitals means there is strong all round support.
The food has been consistently good to excellent. Menus with wine are varied and interesting, this is not institutionalised food. Afternoon tea and homemade cakes and pastries in the Bistro are legendary.
The activities team are superb, endless patience and creativity.
The facilities and gardens are very well maintained, no nasty institutional odours here!

Sunrise of Winchester has delivered for us.

Over the period that my father was under the care of Sunrise Winchester, I consider that I came to greatly admire all staff members of this community. Their hard work and dedication and approachable, patient, unflappable manner and professionalism meant that I had no need to be anxious about this not being the right place for him in his twilight years. It took him a while to settle but he was gently encouraged to participate in activities around the community; little by little he came out of his shell and with their help began to join in and assert himself. Progressively, as his health altered, I felt that he was getting all the appropriate care that he needed and furthermore that the staff were with us every step of the way as his end approached and his treatment plan was altered accordingly. I feel (as I know my sister does also) that Sunrise Winchester became part of our extended family and consequently, I hold them in much respect for the warmth and care shown to my father.

I am a hospitality professional and have worked in the hotel industry for over 12 years. Recently I joined Avery group at Winchester Heights Care Home for a new exposure. Winchester Heights Care Home is extremely accommodating. The best part is the work culture and the positive attitude of the staff towards everyone. Each department extends its help and support to others and works as a team. It is an overwhelming experience to work here.
