Rivermere Care Home was taken over by Avery Healthcare at the start of 2017, and the new management has quickly set about transforming the fortunes of the home. Rivermere provides residential, respite and dementia care.

The home also welcomes couples and friends who wish to live together.

Situated close to the town of Sevenoaks, the home has been brought into line with the group's overarching care philosophy.

Nestled within a picturesque landscape, the home provides person-centred care for older people and those with dementia and its associated conditions.

Residents are encouraged to take full advantage of the home's facilities which are available to them daily. These include cosy lounges and bistro areas which create the perfect social environment, a beauty salon where residents can treat themselves to a haircut or nail treatment, a well-stocked library to indulge into a book or alternatively a cinema room to a catch a film in. The well-being team host regular activities in the activities lounge where all residents are encouraged to take part.

The Rivermere Care Home has been a wonderful haven for my sister, who returned to England after many years in Queensland, Australia. When her husband died there in 2017 she was placed in a care home, but with no family in Australia, she wished to be here with her family, who live in or near Sevenoaks.
The move meant that she had to adapt to a new way of life, a change in climate and get used to English life again after many years away. Rivermere has helped her to do all those things and we are happy to see her settled so well and taking part in the activities of the care home. I have seen a number of care homes, having done voluntary work in one in Sevenoaks and seen others as a visitor and later spending many days in my sister's highly-regarded care home in Queensland preparing her to leave. Rivermere exceeds them all in the care that it gives and in the manner in which it is given. There is tolerance of the whims of individuals, care in the administration of medications, compassion at times of need, a range of activities and entertainments that provide something for everyone, a beautiful well-equipped bistro for coffee and casual meetings and a cuisine and restaurant that would be hard to better. A great deal of thought and professional skill has gone into providing these services, all of which are administered by staff members who are, without exception, well trained and happy people, who interact amicably with the residents.

Very caring staff in all aspects. Carers, office and admin staff are very approachable and helpful. Catering, food and staff are brilliant, good food and beverages available all day and private dining rooms and public areas are extremely well decorated. 5 star.


Outside areas and gardens are well

kept and pretty. I would have loved to have sat out but the weather was cold and wet. Maintenance staff are very on the ball. Room service is available.

My uncle has moved to Rivermere this year after being in hospital for some time. Since coming to Riverdale he has gained weight and gone from strength to strength. The love and kindness shown by the whole team is overwhelming thank you team. Riverdale you are amazing.

Rivermere Care Home has excelled itself. The level of care is fantastic and the staff are wonderful. The surroundings and decor are excellent and the food, well, the food is unbelievable. I would not want my mum cared for anywhere else.

My father has been a resident at Rivermere Care Home since the beginning of February 2018. I know I speak for my brother and sisters on the fantastic care my father receives. The staff are really friendly and cannot do enough for my dad. Whenever I visit, I know I can always speak to someone if needed.
All the staff are lovely and very respectful and caring for both residents and family members.


I cannot praise every member of staff enough at Rivermere Care Home. Thank you so much for making my dad so welcome and making it feel like home.

My friend's mother was in the home for two and a half years. During her last ten days prior to her death, I spent a considerable amount of time supporting my friend.
The staff were fantastic. Their support through this difficult time was second to none. I greatly appreciated their kindness and thoughtfulness.
Overall they couldn't do enough for my friend or her mum.

The carers in the memory department are kind, caring and display genuine care for the residents in all situations. The care and support given, to both my Mum and myself over the last 3 weeks, has been above and beyond any expectations I had. I have been bowled over by their kindness. They do an excellent
job and I truly hope this is appreciated by the management of the home. They are fantastic!

My Mother is in the Reminiscence part of Rivermere Care Home. She has been a resident for about 3 years (2 years in Reminiscence). She is very well looked after by the carers there. She feels safe, loved and respected.
They are all very caring and she loves taking part in most of the many activities
that are provided in-house and people coming in. We are also kept well informed and enjoy many family activities provided as well.

Having heard great things about Rivermere from my friend who has been singing its praises. I decided to visit in February 2018. I must say I was most impressed, the building, grounds, facilities and staff even surpassed my preconceptions formed from my conversations with my friend.


Should I be in

a position to spend my latter years in such a wonderfully supportive and friendly environment I now have a very high benchmark for others to achieve. Perhaps there'll be a place available at Rivermere?

The atmosphere in the 'Memory' department was amazing. The care staff sitting with the residents, often with an arm around them and laughing, singing along to the entertainer was beautiful to see.
One lady said she was horrified when they told her that her mother had dementia and would be happier
in this 'unit'. She said she was angry, frightened and could not accept that she should be put in a 'place like this. Today she said she could not believe the difference in her mum. She had adapted to the smaller, more intimate surroundings, made friends and was now in a happy and comfortable routine which suited her so well. They enjoyed coming to visit her and felt this was so much more suitable to her needs.
The residents in the 'Residential' department were so independent it was like walking into a 5-star hotel. One told me he was part of the group that decided what sort of entertainment they should book. He was just going out with fellow Residents to lunch at a pub with a Jazz band!

My mother was accepted into Rivermere in December 2017 following a diagnosis of vascular dementia. The admission process was both professional and caring with her visiting the home and then being assessed in her home. She was initially in Residential before events meant that a move to Memory was appropriate,
the change process was handled sensitively and without problems. Since being in Memory she has benefitted from the additional staff and is less worried. Her most frequent comment is "I couldn't do better than here", she loves the staff and the excellent food. As a family, we know that she is cared for and that the staff understand her needs, at the same time we are consulted about changes, this included a long discussion about ongoing health care with the local GP practice.

My dad has been happy since living at Rivermere and staff have always been friendly and caring. The staff are helpful and respectful towards my dad. My dad specifically thinks the activities on offer are well managed. The communal areas are well kept and there is lots of space for my dad's grandchildren
to play when they visit.

Rivermere Care Home is an amazing place. All the staff are friendly caring and professional, there is always a welcome smile for residents and relatives. The staff are genuinely caring and concerned about the comfort and happiness of all the residents. There are frequent trips out all carefully thought
out to provide a pleasant experience for everybody, there are daily classes providing stimulation and often resulting in fun and laughter.
The level of cleanliness is unbeatable, the rooms are beautiful and the food excellent. The staff offer support and go out of their way to reassure relatives and are happy to help in any way they can. During the first weeks of my mothers stay staff would often ring me in the evening to reassure me that mum was quite settled and chatting to residents, I was so pleased and really appreciated this kind gesture typical of the whole ethos of Rivermere.

I visited with a friend whose grandmother is a resident at the home. The home is warm and friendly and there was a great sense of family approach. The staff were kind and caring and all the residents appeared to be happy. We were invited to join my friend's grandmother for afternoon tea and this was
a selection of homemade cakes that were delicious.

My brother has been a resident for 3 months and has settled very well. He has dementia and as his sister, I act as an advocate for his well-being as he is not always able to explain his needs. Staff have all demonstrated kindness and understanding towards him and a friendly and helpful approach towards
me and other family members.


In spite of being in the throes of a major refurbishment, everyone is always welcoming and staff will always respond cheerfully to queries and requests. He enjoys the meals and the company at mealtimes, though it is always possible for residents to have room service. When the refurbishment is complete the environment and amenities should be ideal.

Sue Simmonds

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2019

Hello, my name is Sue, and I am delighted to be the Home Manager here at Rivermere Care Home.


I Joined Rivermere in 2019 and have over 40 years of experience in the healthcare sector. Working in both residential and nursing settings, my previous roles have been as Registered Nurse, Senior Lecturer, and Regulator. I am always looking into ways to develop my skills in the sector and have successfully done this by proudly accomplishing BSC (Hons) Nursing Studies, which helps me succeed today.


Within this time, I have been lucky enough to create strong companionships with many residents and colleagues who all have amazing stories and backgrounds. Seeing my residents happy and enjoying life each day gives me the motivation to perform at the highest level.


I would best describe myself as someone who is very experienced within the healthcare sector, hardworking and compassionate about delivering exceptional care to all my residents. In my spare time, I enjoy spending it with my children and grandchildren. I also own two beautiful dogs, which I love to walk.


Avery Healthcare, owners of Rivermere, best stands out for providing a high standard of care and facilities for their residents. The company also care for and support their employees, resulting in loyal and hardworking teams. And our home is no exception. There are so many aspects to love about Rivermere, but for me, it has to be our beautifully landscaped gardens where residents can enjoy all year round, whether that be planting crops for our talented culinary team to use or just simply soaking up the sun on a summer’s day.
