My mum was cared for, loved and respected at Sherrell House. Although her stay was very short, the staff were caring, understanding and completely competent. The home is always spotless, without odour and a happy place to visit. I would gladly take up residence there myself-

A big thank you to the

staff for making those last few weeks of mum's life a happy one.

My mother is obviously happy here, she likes the staff and they are kind and attentive to her. My mother takes part in the activities on offer and from the evidence of the scrapbook photos she enjoys them whether it's pet day or an art activity. The care that my mother receives here helps me to be more
relaxed, I don't need to worry about her health and well-being as I did before she came here.

Sherrell House is a lovely environment with good facilities and well-kept spaces. The staff are caring and many go beyond our expectations to provide a high level of care and compassion, especially given the challenging needs of some of the residents. Additional activities and facilities, such as visits
out and the hairdresser are very much appreciated.

I visit twice a week and find the staff both pleasant and friendly. They are busy and efficient, showing great care and interest in the residents. I have had a bad experience with a care home and only wish I'd been able to use this care home for my father.
My only criticism is the lack of enough parking
places.

I have noticed a vast improvement in standards across the home since mum arrived a year ago.
The manager is marvellous! Reception staff are welcoming and helpful, carers are attentive and have gotten to know my mum's specific needs, likes and dislikes.
Reply from Sonia Kasese, General Manager at Sherrell HouseWe appreciate your feedback as it helps us know we are getting things right. And we would like to keep ensuring your mum and everyone else's relatives in the home feel the same way.

It has its good days and not so good days.
Is there a lack of staff or changes? Things have changed lately and have gone down a bit.
It maybe because of holidays, regular staff?
Food not as good as it was. Who cooks the food?
The staff are very kind but they cannot do miracles.
Some times residents
cannot understand some staff language/accents.
Reply from Sonia Kasese, General Manager at Sherrell HouseWe are very concerned to hear about this experience and it is the home's priority to ensure all our residents are supported with quality care including high standards of food options. We will be immediately reviewing these concerns and aim to address all concerns raised.

My mother has been a resident since July 2015.
We have experienced very few if any problems during her stay.
The management and particularly staff have always been very supportive under what must be, at times, difficult circumstances.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Sherrell House to anyone.

A lady from the county council visited my father in early August 2015, she was very respectful and treated my father very well, she managed to get the best from him and he was very relaxed with her, which is difficult when suffering from dementia. She spent approximately one hour with us and was very
thorough and very impressed with Sherrell House.

Mum has been a resident in Sherrell House for over a year. During that time we have found all the staff to be welcoming efficient, supportive and caring at all times. The work hard to make residents feel it is their home. There is a family atmosphere which we greatly value as relatives. When discussing
mums health with staff they show a good understanding of her physical and emotional needs and we feel these are met. I have no complaints at all just gratitude.

I visit a friend occasionally, generally everything is very good, staff, food, room etc. I am not here enough to know much about the activities but realise it's very difficult with such an elderly group of people. Everyone seems happy and well cared for, I do not know the cost of the care.

We visit a friend on the second floor every week. We are very impressed with the care given, the staff are lovely and very kind to the residents. The rooms are very clean and comfy. I would have loved my mum to have come but it was not possible (she used to live in LB Waltham Forest) - this is a lovely
home compared to many I've seen. I cannot comment on the food as I haven't seen it but our friend enjoys his meals.

My mum has been at Sherrell House for around 2 months, and so far I have been very impressed with the service provided. My mum's well being is being well catered for and I have noticed a significant improvement in her health. When my daughter and myself first visited the care home, we were pleasantly
surprised by the atmosphere created by the staff. They are happy, positive and energetic, all of which has seemed to rub off on my mum.

The care home at Sherrell House is very well managed. The staff from reception, carers, nurses and everyone of the team seems extremely polite and professional. My mother has been there for two months and I know it's still early days yet but so far I'm very happy with the care she's been receiving.
The care home is very clean and tidy and sets a very good example on how a care home should be run.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.867)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.867) out of 10 for Sherrell House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.892 for Sherrell House is calculated as follows: ( (200 Excellents x 5) + (20 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 222 Ratings = 4.892
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Sherrell House is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 92 registered maximum number of service users is 18.4, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I have worked in the care sector for 19 years, but I was inspired to join Excelcare in particular because of the strong family feel and environment. All team members make you feel like you belong from the moment you start to work here. From when I first visited Sherrell House, I was so impressed with the compassion I could feel from the team every time that they spoke to, or about the people living in the home.

When I started at my first job in care, I was quite disheartened as there was no real team spirit or motivation. However, I am so glad that I continued in care, because that is certainly not the case at Sherrell House. I am part of a team that puts in 100% all of the time and is incredibly passionate. This is a fantastic environment, and I’m looking forward to seeing where my future in Excelcare takes me.
