My mother who has PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy) has been a resident at Acacia Lodge for over 12 months, over this time my mother has slowly got more and more frail, but I believe she is content staying at Acacia Lodge.
I can say that the staff at the lodge are very friendly and caring, they
look after my mother and the management staff are excellent, a big thank you to two members of staff in particular, we are always made welcome & we feel my mother is in the best place. Thank you to all the team.

Mum was in two minds about moving into a care home and needed a little while to settle in. But after a month or two I can see that she absolutely loves everyone that looks after her. So much so that she says they feel like family. Everyone I have come into contact with is so friendly and genuinely cares
that my mum is well looked after and happy. She really enjoys the food there and loves a giggle with the staff. There are also sometimes quizzes/bingo/singers which she really enjoys and family are often invited to come along too. It is nice to have peace of mind that Mum is being looked after and is happy.

My husband has been looked after with care and compassion every day since he moved into the care home. When he could communicate, he used often to thank the staff for the help they were giving him. But now that he cannot communicate, and is unable to do anything for himself, he is obviously content,

Acacia Lodge has been great for my mum from day 1. I was worried and unsure, as I promised her I would never put her in a care home, this will haunt me forever as I had no choice in the end. The staff are amazing and care for Mum exceptionally well. The activities are brilliant and a lot of thought
and time goes into all of them. Mum is very settled, happy and I’m so glad I chose Acacia for Mum to enjoy life with so many other people and great surroundings within the home. I would highly recommend this care home, which is run exceptionally well.

As always, when I visit my mother, the staff are welcoming. It is a busy floor and must be challenging at times, but it always feels calm and happy, and the residents appear well cared for and content. The atmosphere is positive - there are lots of activities going on, which my mother really enjoys
doing. The home itself is bright and homely. It appears well-run, and I always enjoy my visits.

My aunt has been happy and settled from the moment she arrived. The staff are friendly, helpful and caring. My uncle visits every day, and the staff could not be more welcoming. Whenever we visit the home, it is very clean, and my aunt’s room is kept clean and tidy. She is always well dressed, with

Immediately prior to my mum becoming a resident in September 2022, I found the manager to be incredibly helpful with a very positive attitude. She guided me through the process of moving my mum from independent living to the care home. The staff are caring and cheerful and the phone is always answered
and any queries dealt with in a professional but sympathetic manner. The home feels like a family environment and every effort is made to accommodate residents' quirks and individual traits.

I would like there to be more activities for residents. There have been some opportunities for trips out in the minibus, but hopefully, more can be arranged. I would also like more physical exercises to be made available to residents. Daily exercise is very important to my mum as she has always been
very active. The care home could have regular armchair sessions and additional physical activities for more capable residents.

Acacia Lodge is a warm, welcoming place. The atmosphere created by the staff is bright and cheerful. Although my aunt suffers severely with dementia she is part of the community and is happy and content. This is proof of a caring, inclusive environment in which she is safe and cared for.

My husband moved into the Lodge in August 2022. He has dementia with Lewy Body and gets the care and attention, support and help that he needs from the dedicated staff. The staff are always there to support me and it puts my mind at rest to know that he is well looked after.

Mum was admitted to Acacia Lodge in May 2022 following hospital discharge after a fall at home and breaking her hip. Right from the start she was made to feel welcome and every assistance was given to help her settle in. She feels safe, loves her room and says 'they have a great laugh'. Family worries
have reduced greatly and a visit to Mum these days is a pleasure. The staff are caring, attentive and approachable. The manager responds quickly to any queries and nothing is too much trouble. Highly recommend.

I would like to say how impressed I have been with my mother's carer and the team over the last year and a half. They all went above and beyond to do the best for my mother and to support our family, right down to attending the funeral last week. Mother's carers, care and attention to my mother's medical
history and support at each and every step of the way have been second to none. The family's worries and concerns have also been put to the forefront of her attention, and she was available to chat at every step of the way. Support with medication was a number one priority, which was considered and tweaked. I couldn't have wished for better support.

When the opportunity arose I applied for the role immediately. My manager has been my mentor and adviser and has encouraged me to keep the momentum going with everything I plan. Thelma nominated me for the Care Home Awards in 2018 and I made it to the final seven. A proud moment!


The best part of my role is bringing joy and laughter and creating special moments with our residents, families and staff. Offering reassurance and a hug to residents when needed is also so important to me. A chat and a cup of tea go a long way to making someone feel wanted or respected.


My role is important because, without the daily stimulation of activity, it is easy to become withdrawn, lethargic and poorly. Using my person-centred care skills I endeavour to make sure that everything is an activity, from care to meal times. Activities cover many daily tasks as well as the usual fun things.
