I am very aware of the fact that many men and women are most definitely not in truth aware of the complexities of caring for Dementia patients. It takes a very special individual to take this course and in return give love and understanding to those who in residence miss their homes, families and freedom. God only knows what we would do if such persons were not around. In my unbiased opinion, there is no medal big enough for them. My lovely wife of 62 years has been in Acacia Lodge for a few years so in truth I have drawn very definite conclusions that have made me very grateful to all staff members.

My auntie has only been in Acacia Lodge since November after moving from her previous care home. I cannot believe the difference in her, she is so much happier, positive and never says anything negative anymore. Her medical problems have also improved. The staff are all very kind and caring and treat her with respect. They spend time with her and nothing is too much trouble for them. Other members of my family have also noticed the change and improvement in her. This really does put my mind at rest knowing that she is well looked after and cared for. I am just totally amazing at how well she is doing. Thank you all so much.

My father was a resident at the Acacia Lodge Care Home for over a year until his death on 6th December 2019. Do not judge a book by its cover. Acacia Lodge is outstanding in its level of care for residents. There are other more beautiful care homes in term of buildings, but I very much doubt that any equals the level of care and professionalism shown by the manager and her staff. My father was probably not the easiest resident, but they showed consistent care and professionalism throughout his 14-month stay. In addition, the manager was extremely helpful in applying for grants to keep the cost down. 100% positive recommendation.

My father spent his last week in Acacia Lodge, having been completely independent until very recently.
His stay was not in any way pre-planned but from the first telephone conversation with the Manager onwards, the level care and kindness shown to him and me was outstanding.
Every member of staff we met was friendly and helpful and huge efforts were made to provide the types of food he wanted to eat and to encourage him.
The nursing staff were diligent and caring and at every visit, each member of staff spent as much time with us as we needed, as well as looking after him thoughtfully and respectfully.

I cannot thank the team at Acacia Lodge enough and would recommend them to anyone.

The staff are what made Acacia Lodge outstanding. All the staff treated mum like a member of their family, with such support, friendship, respect and this extended to all her family. It does not come across as a business (which we had experienced in previous home) and this made it all so much more bearable. I was made to feel very welcome and relaxed in a very inviting atmosphere. The manager and her team should be so proud of the service they provide.

My partner arrived very weak and inactive, eating only puree. She now eats well, has put on weight and is much more alert. Very comfortable at night - some difficulty in alerting staff when the toilet is required.

Having visited a number of care/nursing homes around Reading and Henley, we chose Acacia Lodge for my Father initially for a respite period, but now as a permanent resident. We are so grateful to the Home Manager and her nursing team, care staff, activity coordinators, chefs et al, who regularly go the extra mile to make my Father feel at home. The biggest compliment we could give is that after 85 years, despite my Father's degenerative condition, he is settled, content and safe in the hands of all the Team at Acacia Lodge. Similarly, when we visit we feel welcome and our requests are important and acted upon swiftly and professionally. Thank you so much.

My mum is well cared for and happy at Acacia Lodge. The staff are friendly, welcoming and professional. Mum adores some of the staff and I can tell that she feels comfortable and at ease where she is. Acacia Lodge has a happy atmosphere, there is always someone to go to for help and they have been extremely supportive to my mum and I. Big thank you, everyone, I appreciate all your work.

My mother chose to move to Acacia Lodge many years ago in order to be with her husband, who was too sick to return home from a spell in hospital. At this time, she was very able, when my father passed away she chose to stay at Acacia Lodge where she was very happy and had made many new friends. She was allowed to bring many items of her furniture to her room, including her pictures, making it into her home. She has continued to be very happy at Acacia Lodge, particularly enjoying the afternoon entertainments and food. The very kind staff have supported her throughout as her dementia progressed. This has been a great relief to her family.

Acacia Lodge where my mother spent her final month, had been recommended by several friends as the best nursing home in the area.

We totally agree with this endorsement as the care she received was caring, kind, and thoughtful. The staff were unfailingly cheerful and went out of their way to be as helpful as possible to all members of the family who visited.

My husband was in Acacia Lodge from December 14th 2018 to 4th March 2019. During this time he was cared for with a lot of dignity by the carers.
He was in a lot of pain and under medication for it.

The staff coped with this with a lot of sympathy and dedication.

Although my mother in law was brought here without her approval, she is now always telling us how happy she is in Acacia and how kind the staff are to her, in particular, her nurse who she thinks really looks after her so well.

The management are so welcoming to the families of the residents and that is so reassuring to us that we can raise any issues we feel we should without being made to feel bad in doing so. I can't praise this home enough!

My husband received excellent care and attention during his last few months suffering from dementia. He was very ill when admitted after a bout of pneumonia and spent some time being looked after on the nursing floor before transferring to the dementia unit. Acacia Lodge were able to cope with his changing needs and in particular, his inability to cope with a normal diet and the risk of choking.

Thelma ClutsonJob Title:Home ManagerJoined: 2015

In 2015, I became the Registered Manager at Acacia Lodge, and it has been a fulfilling journey ever since.

I love heading up our dedicated team, where each member goes above and beyond daily to deliver outstanding care to our residents. The camaraderie among the staff is truly inspiring, and we work collaboratively to ensure that every resident feels valued and cared for.

The best part of my role is witnessing the joy on our residents’ faces as they engage in activities and enjoy their daily lives. It’s heartwarming to see them smile and feel a sense of belonging in our community. Being part of their lives and the Acacia Lodge family is incredibly rewarding.

Every day presents new opportunities to make a difference, whether through a kind word, a shared laugh, or providing support during challenging moments. I take great pride in fostering an environment where residents feel at home and cherished, and I am grateful to be part of a team that truly cares about making a positive impact.
