My father was a resident at the Acacia Lodge Care Home for over a year until his death on 6th December 2019. Do not judge a book by its cover. Acacia Lodge is outstanding in its level of care for residents. There are other more beautiful care homes in term of buildings, but I very much doubt that any
equals the level of care and professionalism shown by the manager and her staff. My father was probably not the easiest resident, but they showed consistent care and professionalism throughout his 14-month stay. In addition, the manager was extremely helpful in applying for grants to keep the cost down. 100% positive recommendation.

My father spent his last week in Acacia Lodge, having been completely independent until very recently.
His stay was not in any way pre-planned but from the first telephone conversation with the Manager onwards, the level care and kindness shown to him and me was outstanding.
Every member of staff
we met was friendly and helpful and huge efforts were made to provide the types of food he wanted to eat and to encourage him.
The nursing staff were diligent and caring and at every visit, each member of staff spent as much time with us as we needed, as well as looking after him thoughtfully and respectfully.
I cannot thank the team at Acacia Lodge enough and would recommend them to anyone.

The staff are what made Acacia Lodge outstanding. All the staff treated mum like a member of their family, with such support, friendship, respect and this extended to all her family. It does not come across as a business (which we had experienced in previous home) and this made it all so much more bearable.
I was made to feel very welcome and relaxed in a very inviting atmosphere. The manager and her team should be so proud of the service they provide.

My partner arrived very weak and inactive, eating only puree. She now eats well, has put on weight and is much more alert. Very comfortable at night - some difficulty in alerting staff when the toilet is required.

Having visited a number of care/nursing homes around Reading and Henley, we chose Acacia Lodge for my Father initially for a respite period, but now as a permanent resident. We are so grateful to the Home Manager and her nursing team, care staff, activity coordinators, chefs et al, who regularly go
the extra mile to make my Father feel at home. The biggest compliment we could give is that after 85 years, despite my Father's degenerative condition, he is settled, content and safe in the hands of all the Team at Acacia Lodge. Similarly, when we visit we feel welcome and our requests are important and acted upon swiftly and professionally. Thank you so much.

My mum is well cared for and happy at Acacia Lodge. The staff are friendly, welcoming and professional. Mum adores some of the staff and I can tell that she feels comfortable and at ease where she is. My mother chose to move to Acacia Lodge many years ago in order to be with her husband, who was too sick to return home from a spell in hospital. At this time, she was very able, when my father passed away she chose to stay at Acacia Lodge where she was very happy and had made many new friends. She
was allowed to bring many items of her furniture to her room, including her pictures, making it into her home. She has continued to be very happy at Acacia Lodge, particularly enjoying the afternoon entertainments and food. The very kind staff have supported her throughout as her dementia progressed. This has been a great relief to her family.

Acacia Lodge where my mother spent her final month, had been recommended by several friends as the best nursing home in the area.
We totally agree with this endorsement as the care she received was caring, kind,and thoughtful. The staff were unfailingly cheerful and went out of their way to be as helpful
as possible to all members of the family who visited.

My husband was in Acacia Lodge from December 14th 2018 to 4th March 2019. During this time he was cared for with a lot of dignity by the carers.
He was in a lot of pain and under medication for it.
The staff coped with this with a lot of sympathy and dedication.

Although my mother in law was brought here without her approval, she is now always telling us how happy she is in Acacia and how kind the staff are to her, in particular, her nurse who she thinks really looks after her so well.
The management are so welcoming to the families of the residents and that
is so reassuring to us that we can raise any issues we feel we should without being made to feel bad in doing so. I can't praise this home enough!

My husband received excellent care and attention during his last few months suffering from dementia. He was very ill when admitted after a bout of pneumonia and spent some time being looked after on the nursing floor before transferring to the dementia unit. Acacia Lodge were able to cope with his changing
needs and in particular, his inability to cope with a normal diet and the risk of choking.

For my late father, Acacia Lodge provided a new home that suited him and he was very happy there. He enjoyed the company of people and Acacia Lodge provided the environment for this. The staff were wonderful; very attentive to his needs, patient, and genuinely interested in him as a person.

Acacia Lodge is a small care home. The staff are very friendly and caring. They provide a very welcoming and calm environment for my mother.

Both my parents spent the last 18 months of their lives in Acacia Lodge, where they were tenderly looked after. In the later stages of each of their lives they needed nursing care, which was delivered at a high professional standard, but also with loving care. Every member of staff that I met was courteous
and helpful. I cannot praise the level of care highly enough, which was delivered with such a good and understanding nature, even in the most difficult times. All this was especially important to myself and my brother, as we lived a long distance away and needed to feel confident that both parents were well looked after.

The entire staff I have met are pleasant, caring, willing, helpful and friendly towards visitors and residents alike.
No voices are raised or have been during the times I have visited. The residents are treated with dignity as we would wish to be treated.
The dining room is welcoming and tables set
out tastefully. The visiting rooms on both floors provide a relaxing environment to meet the other residents or family and friends.
Any small problems seem to be solved or ironed out as soon as they are bought to the notice of the staff - all in all exceedingly satisfactory.

Hi, my name is Wendy!
I began my employment at Acacia Lodge in 2013 in the Housekeeping Department but soon realised that doing activities was something I wanted to try and would enjoy.
When the opportunity arose I applied for the role immediately. My manager has been my mentor and adviser and has encouraged me to keep the momentum going with everything I plan. Thelma nominated me for the Care Home Awards in 2018 and I made it to the final seven. A proud moment!


The best part of my role is bringing joy and laughter and creating special moments with our residents, families and staff. Offering reassurance and a hug to residents when needed is also so important to me. A chat and a cup of tea go a long way to making someone feel wanted or respected.


My role is important because, without the daily stimulation of activity, it is easy to become withdrawn, lethargic and poorly. Using my person-centred care skills I endeavour to make sure that everything is an activity, from care to meal times. Activities cover many daily tasks as well as the usual fun things.
