Oak Lodge Care Home is a stylish, purpose-built home situated in the peaceful residential area of Bitterne. Here, they welcome those living with dementia in need of nursing or palliative care.

The nurses are here to help residents live the way they want to, which is made easier by having a home that's been designed with dementia residents in mind. There are lots of social lounges, secure gardens and a tranquil sensory area outside.

The home discusses with each resident their food preferences, in order to ensure everyone’s dietary tastes are catered for.

The team regularly organises outings and trips to ensure the care home has strong links within the community. Themed events are planned every month which residents are encouraged to invite family and friends along to.

My dad was taken in on 29th January and passed away on Friday 15th March all the while been well looked after and cared for by their excellent staff. As well as looking after Dad they also cared and showed consideration to me, my sister and Mum even sending flowers to Mum on Dad’s passing.
Excellent
home made us feel welcome and at home.

I was very impressed with the housekeeper when my mum returned to her room after a leak. All her personal possessions had been placed within easy reach for her which was so kind as my mother cannot move around easily, it really touched me as it just shows that things do not go unnoticed.

I arrived to find my husband sitting at the table where the tea party was in full swing. The table was beautifully laid with part napkins, beakers and plates. The food was delicious and appropriate jam tarts, finger sandwiches and orange squash. The chef has made a gorgeous red jam heart-shaped tart.
There was a "drink me" bottle and an "eat me cake". The carers and entertainment staff were engaged with the residents. My husband was very alert and enjoyed it.

Unfortunately, I don't get to see my aunt often, but when I do, she always looks very clean and well-presented. She always appears to be happy in her secure and very comfortable surroundings, and she thoroughly enjoys doing all the different activities with her fellow residents. I find the staff to
always be very helpful, friendly and very knowledgeable within their role.

Oak Lodge is the 3rd nursing home my aunt has been in during the last 18 months. She has found her forever home. Everything from the way she is respected and cared for, the cleanliness of the home, the food and entertainment provided, as well as how we, as relatives, are welcomed and encouraged to join
is absolutely wonderful. Couldn't recommend enough.

Very pleased with the care given to my father. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The home is very clean and warm. If there were any issues, it was with parking - not enough parking spaces, especially for disabled people.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.684)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.684) out of 10 for Oak Lodge Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 22 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.684 for Oak Lodge Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (196 Excellents x 5) + (54 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 263 Ratings = 4.684
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Oak Lodge Care Home is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 71 registered maximum number of service users is 14.2, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2016

I am the home manager at Oak Lodge. I have worked for Bupa for 9 years and at Oak Lodge for 6 years.

I came to the care sector in 2010 after deciding on a career change. I had spent the previous 9 years managing a live music venue in Camden Town, London, before volunteering and travelling through South America for a year with my now wife. I started in the care sector as a support worker, supporting young adults with disabilities to maintain independence and engage in society. I worked hard and advanced my career, becoming a service manager in the sector before moving into care homes in 2016, with my first role at Bupa as a general manager of a multi-site complex in Essex. In 2019, I made the move back down to the beautiful New Forest, where I grew up and took the role of home manager at Oak Lodge care home, where I have happily remained since.

At Bupa, I am supported by the wider business and colleagues to be able to ensure the best outcomes for the residents who trust us with their care and wellbeing needs. The team here are a wonderful, kind and caring bunch, and I feel privileged to work alongside them.

I am married and have 2 young daughters, and I live in the beautiful New Forest. Outside of my role at Bupa, I am an advanced Wim Hof Method Instructor and run workshops for people to come and safely learn the method and the science behind the benefits. I am passionate about supporting people with their Mental Health challenges, and I am a trained Mental Health First Aider.

I enjoy supporting our residents and their loved ones and answering any questions they have, working as part of a great team that cares for our residents and the endless supply of home-made cakes and biscuits!

I live locally and I am married with one son. I enjoy films, comedies, quizzing and gaming with my son.
