Oak Lodge Care Home is a stylish, purpose-built home situated in the peaceful residential area of Bitterne. Here, they welcome those living with dementia in need of nursing or palliative care.

The nurses are here to help residents live the way they want to, which is made easier by having a home that's been designed with dementia residents in mind. There are lots of social lounges, secure gardens and a tranquil sensory area outside.

My mother was transferred to Oak Lodge from hospital in May 2020, after she had a fall at her previous care home. Her dementia, lack of mobility and frailty meant that she was then in need of nursing care.
Unfortunately due to the Coronavirus, I have been unable to see my mother since the beginning
of March or to enter Oak Lodge past the reception area. Therefore my views are based on the limited time and experience that I have of it, and I have used 'satisfactory' to mean 'unknown' in the options.
On both my visits so far I have been made very welcome by a lady on reception and the manager. He was eager to explain all the details about my mother's stay and happy to have a chat. I was told about the use of a mobile phone on each floor to enable communication with residents, and the phone number to talk to the staff on her floor who would be able to keep me updated on her progress. This has proven invaluable and most helpful.

I would recommend this care home, as all the staff are very friendly and make people very welcome. Always very clean and smells fresh. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Mum seems very happy.

Our father has been in Oak Lodge for over 4 years now and we have always been pleased with the home. The staff have always been friendly and caring and have shown genuine interest in the work they carry out which we know can be difficult at times.
Sadly due to COVID-19, we have not been able to visit
the home since shutdown, but feel confident that Dad is being well looked after. We have had updates from management and a Facebook site has been set up which has been a great comfort to our Mother, seeing photo's of Dad looking so happy and well cared for.
Hopefully, we can soon return and meet up with everyone that we have become so fond of.

The care home is really good, very kind and friendly to my mother and to any visiting relatives. It is clean and the food they receive is great. It is very reassuring to us that she is being well looked after.

My husband is a respite resident at Oak Lodge. I have found him to be very happy living here. I find the staff very attentive and extremely kind. I have found the home to be extremely clean, and the food marvellous. I've also noticed the other residents are happy.

I have found the staff to be very helpful and caring, they will listen to any needs we may have toward the resident. It is also for us to understand that care is not always easy due to the dementia and the person's reaction toward staff.
Having worked for 25 years with dementia patients I believe the
care and understanding to be very good, respect and dignity also understood.

My mother lived in the care home through her end of life. I was so concerned about her care as I live in Canada.
The care given to my mother as witnessed by my two nieces who live in Southampton was excellent. I flew back twice to Southampton to visit with my mother and I asked her about her care.
My
mother was happy with all aspects of her care. My mother was transferred to the care home from a local hospital where she felt her dignity was not being respected. From her first day at the care home that all changed.
From time to time I spoke via phone with the General Manager and some of the nursing staff, they were all excellent. I am so thankful for my mother`s last few weeks of life were with the staff of Oak Lodge Care Home in Bitterne.

Kitchen view lounge - peeling wallpaper but the dining room is being decorated so may be fixed soon, easy access - one lift to the third floor. Staff decorate the lounge for festivals including Chinese New Year. Plants and dried/artificial colourful flowers are always on view. Meals - vegetables are
often overcooked but a reasonable menu.

The staff are always attentive and look after my dad when he visits my mum in the care home. They sometimes phone me to check on him if he hasn't turned up! Alzheimer's is very distressing for relatives but I know my mum is safe and cared for which helps a lot.

My dad has been at Oak Lodge Care Home for 2 weeks. He seemed to settle well in the care home. The room he is in is a very nice room with an ensuite bathroom. The staff are very friendly and very caring. The security at the home is very good so the residents feel safe.
The care home is clean and tidy.
They provide a healthy option of food, breakfast, lunch and dinner.

My husband has been in Oak Lodge for a short period of time but I am very impressed with all the facilities and cleanliness of the overall appearance of Oak Lodge. The staff are very dedicated and give excellent care to the patients.

My mother has now been a resident at Oak Lodge for 6 months after having one fall too many she is no longer able to weight bare.
Nursing personal care is of a very high standard as is the food.
It is nice when visiting to see the same staff who are always welcoming and careful. I would certainly recommend
Oak Lodge to anyone looking for nursing care.

My mum has been in Oak Lodge Care Home for over three years. In this time the friendly happy staff who look after my mum have been constant. They take great care of my mum's daily need giving her all the time she needs. The food is great and the home is always clean and smells fresh. My mum is lucky
to have an excellent nurse working on Peartree Floor who always has time to answer questions and give feedback. To sum up the place, you are greeted by a smile as you enter and the experience gets better.

Corin Ridout

Job Title: General Manager

I am the General Manager at Oak Lodge. I have been in this role for four years but have been working in care for more than eleven.


I started out as a support worker for adults with learning disabilities. I then moved into home management and four years ago I moved from learning disabilities into the elderly care sector.


Before working in care I had various careers including Live Music Venue management in Camden town and plant mechanics.


In my spare time I like to challenge myself physically and have completed the London classic twice and I am now in training for Iron Man 2021.


I love working in a care environment as I feel privileged to be able to support our residents to continue to live safe happy lives with a good dose of fun thrown in for good measure!

Job Title: Financial Administrator

I joined the team in 2016 - I previously spent over 20 years’ working for the Department of Work and Pensions and after taking voluntary redundancy I thought my experience would be a good fit for this role.


I enjoy supporting our residents and their loved ones and answering any questions they have, working as part of a great team who care for our residents and the endless supply of home-made cakes and biscuits!


I live locally and I am married with one son and I enjoy films, quizzing and gaming with my son.
