Oak Lodge Care Home is a stylish, purpose-built home situated in the peaceful residential area of Bitterne. Here, they welcome those living with dementia in need of nursing or palliative care.

The nurses are here to help residents live the way they want to, which is made easier by having a home that's been designed with dementia residents in mind. There are lots of social lounges, secure gardens and a tranquil sensory area outside.

The home discusses with each resident their food preferences, in order to ensure everyone’s dietary tastes are catered for.

Mum has been in the home now for four months. Living out of the country, I am finding it hard to keep in contact with the home. However, when contacted, they were good in providing me with additional contact help.
Visiting this time the staff have been great.

My wife has resided at Oak Lodge for almost 3 years, she has had excellent care and attention. I cannot fault any part of her stay. My lifetime friend has been a resident for about 1 year and we have visited her on a regular basis on different weekdays and have always been impressed by all aspects of the care provided at the home.


In particular, the attitude and dedication of the staff that we have come into contact with is exemplary

and we have complimented individuals accordingly at every opportunity. Other residents we have met appear to be happy and well cared for.

My brother has been very happy at Oak Lodge for around five years. He is looked after with kindness and enjoys the entertainment provided by singers and dancers.


I cannot comment on food and drink as my brother has to be fed via a tube. However, the residents look happy at the lunch table.

Staff are very caring and respond well to Dad's needs. He is happy here and has formed great relationships with the staff.
Responses to buzzers is an area which I feel has room for improvement as Dad has waited for a long time on occasions for someone to come into his room when he has rung his buzzer
or buzzers are not always within his reach.

Very good. The only problem I have is not leaving the alarm with my husband. Also leaving the alarm ringing for a long time. Otherwise, the staff and manager are really lovely and so glad he is here.

Mum has been at Oak Lodge for approximately 2 months now.
She is on Peartree floor. The care and dignity side of the package is excellent. All carers are attentive and nothing is too much trouble - very friendly.
The food is prepared by a chef and is very good. I visit my mum every day and she is
always comfy and clean. There is a doctor on site every Monday and Thursday for any queries or concerns. Everyone is very flexible and accommodating to individual needs. Very happy and feel I can voice my concerns freely.

Since Dad has been moved down to Freemantle he seems so much better and more settled in this considerably quieter environment. He seems so much less confused and more content. He always has lovely things to say about the care he receives from the majority of the staff, which is a real comfort to us
as his family.

I am a retired registered nurse and have worked in several nursing and residential homes. The welcome and attitude of the hard-working staff is obvious. The staff were very friendly and the good care was outstanding.

On arrival, all seemed friendly, nice clean, room small. As there was no riser recliner chair, he had to spend most days in bed.
On 1 occasion when I was there, we waited over 20 minutes for someone to hoist him onto the toilet after me asking 3 times.
He said when you ring the bell, it takes ages
for someone to come, 30 minutes wait on another occasion.

Oak Lodge has been my sister's home for the last 5 years. She has no complaints about anything. The carers are wonderful. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The food is excellent, and she is always kept very clean and tidy.

Corin Ridout

Job Title: General Manager

I am the General Manager at Oak Lodge. I have been in this role for four years but have been working in care for more than eleven.


I started out as a support worker for adults with learning disabilities. I then moved into home management and four years ago I moved from learning disabilities into the elderly care sector.


Before working in care I had various careers including Live Music Venue management in Camden town and plant mechanics.


In my spare time I like to challenge myself physically and have completed the London classic twice and I am now in training for Iron Man 2021.


I love working in a care environment as I feel privileged to be able to support our residents to continue to live safe happy lives with a good dose of fun thrown in for good measure!

Job Title: Financial Administrator

I joined the team in 2016 - I previously spent over 20 years’ working for the Department of Work and Pensions and after taking voluntary redundancy I thought my experience would be a good fit for this role.


I enjoy supporting our residents and their loved ones and answering any questions they have, working as part of a great team who care for our residents and the endless supply of home-made cakes and biscuits!


I live locally and I am married with one son and I enjoy films, quizzing and gaming with my son.
