Making the decision to firstly, place my Dad into full-time residential care and secondly, choosing such a care home, is one of the most stressful and hardest things we have done as a family. There is so much to consider and we viewed around 10 different homes, more than once and at different times
of day and night. The staff were knowledgeable, approachable and clearly understand the needs of their residents. That’s how I know we got this right with Lydgate.


The surroundings are beautiful. Spacious, yet homely. The staff are so caring, not just towards the residents but to the relatives too. On the difficult days with Dad, I’ve had carers take time to talk to me about him and to just generally let me pour my heart out, when the fact that he is living with Dementia becomes too much. They’ve gotten to know him and he’s settling in well. My Dad is quite young and they tailor to his needs well, with a wide range of activities and outings. It doesn’t feel like your typical care home.

After working hard and caring for his family and others all his life, we dearly wanted to find a fitting home where my father could be cared for with the dignity he deserved. After visiting quite a few other homes my mother instantly had a gut feeling about Lydgate, with the friendly welcoming staff
and management and pleasant clean surroundings.
Dad enjoyed the modern purpose built spaciousness of the home and was able to use his electric wheelchair to access the cafeteria, dining area, lounge and corridor to his room with access onto the garden.
The family and extended family enjoyed a celebration in the cafe which we will never forget.
Unfortunately after being ill in hospital, Dad went on to receive palliative care at Lydgate. The management and staff was very kind to Dad, along with ongoing support from the district nurses and Admiral nurse dad was well cared for until he passed away in early June 2019.
The whole family was so touched by everyone's kindness to us all.

My mum-in-law moved into Lydgate Lodge in March 2019 from another care home where she was not happy. She immediately settled in and described it as “like living in a hotel”. The staff were always kind, supportive and caring and always available. She enjoyed the activities and joined in regularly. She
also said the food was lovely and that there was always something for her to choose. Unfortunately, her health deteriorated and, after spending some time in hospital, returned to Lydgate for her final days and she passed away peacefully. Throughout this very stressful time for the family, the staff were excellent, caring and looking after both mum in law and the family. I cannot speak highly enough of the lovely people at this care home and if you are looking for a care home for a loved one, then I would highly recommend Lydgate Lodge. My only regret is that we didn’t move mum-in-law to Lydgate Lodge sooner.

My in-laws moved to Lydgate Lodge in November 2018. The team organised and facilitated the move smoothly and with a high level of compassion at a difficult time.
They took time to get to know my in-laws to make it a home from home, noting their likes and dislikes. High level of care delivered with
real professionalism and in detail with general interest not perfunctory. Lots of activities and a genuine desire to help and engage starting with the manager, taking time to discuss politics with my father-in-law right through the team enabling my mother-in-law to carry out little chores because she believes she helps out as a visitor who is staying there temporarily and not a resident. Food is good, in plentiful supply and lots of choice. Would definitely recommend them.

My grandma died earlier this month having spent over four years in Lydgate Lodge. Over the years we have seen much change, and the home has recently appointed a new manager who is excellent. He is visible, hands-on, compassionate, and understanding. The care staff are exceptional and are patient, supportive,
empathetic, and sensitive. Reception staff are welcoming and laundry staff should be commended. The kitchen staff provide food of the finest quality and go that extra mile for those special occasions, and the hairdresser is a lovely lady too.


Whilst vascular dementia had robbed my grandma of her dignity, staff ensured her final days and death were dignified. When necessary they involved health professionals immediately and were in constant dialogue with the GP surgery and district nurses.


For many families, putting their loved ones in a care home is heartbreaking. For anyone looking around care homes, I would highly recommend you visit Lydgate Lodge.

Mum was only at Lydgate Lodge for 6 months but she was cared for extremely well during that time. The staff are all friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble. Mum spent her last days in the care home and her end of life care was wonderful. During this sad time, the staff were so thoughtful
to the family.
There was always a cup of tea and biscuits if needed and on the day mum passed away peacefully in the early morning, the staff voluntarily made several pots of tea, plates of sandwiches, packets of crisps and a plate of biscuits at lunchtime for the seven family members who came to say their goodbyes to mum. I am so pleased that mum was in the care home and not in hospital when she passed away.

Lydgate Lodge was the best of all the care homes viewed when looking for a care home for Mum when she left hospital. The care, nursing and attention given to all the residents couldn't be bettered.
We were more than happy to entrust Mum into their care and leave her there and return home (85 miles
away).
She was happy there and spent the last 6 months of her 98 years being looked after sympathetically and with dignity and respect.
I have never met so many genuinely sympathetic and caring people in one place.

My mother-in-law was in Lydgate Lodge for a few years and was happy there. For the last 18-24 months of her life she was in her bed and did not know much about her surroundings, but the carers were always there making her life as comfortable as possible. Everybody in the home was her friend - not just
a carer. They also became our friends - from the cleaners, catering staff, carers to management. At the end of her life, everybody was so kind, caring and helpful, nothing was too much trouble and this was all natural for them. A lovely caring home.

My Aunt has been resident at Lydgate Lodge for the past 3 and a half years and the care she has received has always been good but especially in the last week prior to her passing away it has been second to none, not only the immediate carers but domestic and office staff have been excellent not just
to her but to us, her family.

My Husband has been in the care home for respite care for two weeks. On visiting, I found he was clean and happy. The food looked very good and I think ate most things. His bedroom was very pleasant and clean. His clothes had been washed and put on hangers in the wardrobe. The staff were very good and
nothing was too much trouble for them. The other residents seemed happy. I am hoping that my Husband will be able to come here again in the near future.

From the interview with my mother-in-law to her settling in, the service was very friendly, helpful and professional.


This initial look round was conducted really well with staff having very friendly and helpful. On the day of moving in, the transfer was handled really well, staff very helpful.

Care is good. The main problem is hearing aids. Everytime she gets some the disappear. She is very deaf so it's a problem.
Slippers also disappear although we don't know if she moves them herself.

To the best of my knowledge, the care provided to my 99-year-old aunt, who suffers from dementia, is very good.
She is kept clean and tidy, appears to be well nourished and healthy and issues are kept on top of.
As a self-funding resident, the cost of care will always be an issue and as national
costs go, this care home gives satisfactory value for money.

My mother is 100 years old and has resided here 7 years. I visit every day except when on holiday. When I am away, I worry about her as I want her underwear changing a few times a day when wet. I always change her when I am here. I buy a large quantity of disposable underwear.
I also notice occasionally
she does not have her 2 hearing aids in or teeth not in.

Everything was excellent - impressive entrance hall, welcoming feel and no smells! Staff friendly to all, as were office staff, seemed to have a good rapport with all residents and know their needs, they had dad sussed out very quickly.
I had seriously avoided care homes because of experiences in
my line of work but was forced into it by dad's sudden deterioration in health.
I would not be afraid to send him for respite if the need arose again.
