I find the care my mam gets is the very best. The manager and carers are all friendly and work hard at all times. My mam has had the very best of care over four years now and can't thank them all enough.

I moved my mother to Hawthorn Court Care Home on the recommendation of another family. I was concerned she would be disruptive and not settled but I need not have worried. The staff made sure my mother felt welcome and introduced her to doll therapy which my mother loves. The care is excellent and both myself and my mother are very happy. It is the kindness that makes a difference and I witness that on a daily basis. All of the staff here made it a lovely experience and I cannot thank them enough. They are all so friendly and I am happy with my decision.

I found the home very clean and the staff and management very helpful.

The food/ meals are satisfactory, although I found it strange to have curry on the menu as I know my mother has never eaten a curry. Then again this might have been a one-off.

Very welcoming entrance and smelling very fresh and clean and tidy. There is nothing that the staff won't do for our friend. Very accommodating, kind, caring and a personal touch can be seen. The special days arranged such as open days, are spectacular with everyone joining in to make a lovely atmosphere. Meals and drinks are very well arranged, nothing too much trouble and visitors are made very welcome. Facilities are of the highest, lovely garden and gazebo and rooms are light and large. A very special home

Generally good, however staff fall into different categories from excellent to poor.

Re Value for Money, it is difficult to say 'yes', as my aunt is a self-funder and annual increases abuse your dominant position of having a captive audience.

Home cleanliness is excellent and a safe, comfortable environment. I find the manager very helpful.

Although better than a lot of care homes, whether such high fees are warranted is debatable.

I feel my relative is treated with dignity and respect by dedicated carers.
The only comment I would like to make which I think is extremely important is that the residents could be entertained more.
Very often they are in their rooms doing nothing.
There should be a lot more social interaction encouraged to keep the mind occupied throughout the day and into early evening.

Simple things such as movie nights, making it special with ice cream and popcorn.

I would recommend this care home as staff have always been friendly and kind. The home is also very well maintained and clean at all times. I have worked/visited in other care homes and I have to say in comparison Hawthorn Court is of a higher standard. I have had no issues so far with the care of my Nana.

I can only recommend Hawthorn Court for the standard of care. I find the staff extremely professional and friendly. I know my mother is being well looked after and all her meals are catered for. Communication with management and staff is excellent. I feel completely comfortable knowing that if any health concerns arose, these would be dealt with both timeously and safely. It's a pleasure to deal with people who care about people.

The home is always clean and pleasant to visit and peaceful. My mother-in-law's room is very pleasant, well cleaned and comfortable and she feels very safe and secure there. The staff are always pleasant and treat residents that I have seen with respect, care and humour. They are hard working and always engaging with the residents. The manager of the home is very good and hands-on and very approachable. The food appears to be very good and varied with regular refreshments. Personal care, cleanliness and well-being is very good with a good approach to dealing with dementia and it's associated problems.

My dad has lived at Hawthorn Court for 26 months and is very contented there. He particularly enjoys the social interaction in the dining room and on minibus outings. The home is decorated to a high standard and is kept spotlessly clean. All of the residents look well cared for and the staff are always pleasant and friendly. Food is well presented, even for residents on a special diet, and the laundry service is very good too.

A lovely care home. The staff are very welcoming and understanding. All the rooms are decorated to a high standard and kept clean.

My mum settled in well and her needs are met by the friendly carers. She is encouraged to join in activities but chooses not to and her preference is accepted.

Overall Experience

My mother has been resident at Hawthorn Court since 2013. As with most people having to find residential care for their loved ones, it is always a difficult time with severe misgivings. In my own experience, I have a great deal of involvement with elderly person residential care and nursing homes. It was, therefore, with particular apprehension that we entrusted our mother into Hawthorn's care. I have observed how the friendly and informed interaction with all of the residents, has enabled staff to differentiate quickly between mood and behaviour changes. In my mother's case, this has enabled an early identification of health problems that have consequently been quick to resolve. The calm and friendly way that support with personal and intimate needs, has avoided her reacting negatively to being assisted. In her moments of lucidity, she manages to express how happy she is to be there and when she asks to go home, she means to the security of her room at Hawthorn. Creating a positive environment is a team effort, and good teamwork requires good leadership.
