Freelands Croft is dedicated to caring for those with dementia, from early onset to more complex end-of-life needs - with nursing, residential and short stay care.

There are 64 lovely rooms, and the home will always do its best to accommodate couples. Each of the comfortable en-suite bedrooms features their own accessible wet room, flat-screen TV and 24-hour nurse call system and many have views of their large landscaped gardens that wrap around the home. There are lots of places to choose from for some company or tranquillity.

Freelands Croft has four lounges, and a huge wrap-around garden is perfect for a gentle stroll. The home’s interior has been decorated to suit individuals with dementia, being colour-themed and including memory triggers.

Residents can enjoy a bit of pampering in the hair salon or pop into the vintage-style café. The reminiscence room helps to recapture memories from the past.

Good food is so important for many reasons. Tempting meals and snacks can be enjoyed in the bright and airy dining rooms or in the comfort of the resident’s own room. Soon after a resident arrives at Freelands, staff discuss their personal preferences and dietary needs with them.

There’s a real sense of community at the home. The staff work to discover what residents enjoy doing and the home's social calendar is organised around those interests. Visiting musicians, curry and quiz nights, and musical bingo are examples of some of the activities residents can experience, alongside weekly outings, arts and crafts or coffee mornings.

My husband went into Freelands Croft for respite care in July 2024 and has since become a permanent resident. I have been very impressed from the start by all of the staff. We had an initial assessment by two very professional and caring ladies. The receptionist who showed us around was very cheerful
and thorough. The management, nursing staff and care assistants are friendly, approachable and have a can-do attitude. Nothing is too much trouble. This is backed up by great catering, cleaning, laundry and maintenance people. My husband is constantly being monitored and assisted if required. I can check this online. The meals are of a good standard with lots of variety. Snacks and drinks are in frequent supply. There is an appropriate and full programme of activities which residents can join if they wish. I feel very lucky that he has a place there, as it feels homely and has a lovely atmosphere. He has a large room with a view of the garden. But most of all, the staff are great!

When booking to look around, I was so impressed with one of the staff who arranged a time the same day, and how quickly he sent me over relevant information. Also, the follow-up call and email to see what we thought and if we needed any help. A staff member showed us around and was so understanding
and answered our questions. When told Mum had a place there and the moving date, the manager telephoned and arranged that we could go in before and choose her room and bring some items in to make it more homely and familiar for Mum when she arrived. I have been so impressed at the high standard of care provided, and the support Mum has had. All the staff have been so friendly and respectful to Mum and the communication has been excellent. Mum is safe and well looked after and is slowly starting to interact with others and participate in the many activities on offer. Having access to the GP, a hairdresser and a chiropodist is great. I am so impressed with how well Mum is cared for. She seems so much happier.
Reply from David Mclean, Customer Service Adviser at Freelands Croft Care HomeThank you for your lovely review. We hope Freelands Croft Care Home did everything possible to make the transition as easy as possible. We are very happy to hear you can feel at ease with your mum in our care and it is always nice to hear from family members feeling like their loved one is cared for and looked after. We will certainly pass your comments on to the manager. We hope to continue providing your loved one with the best possible care, and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

My mum moved into Freelands Croft at the end of November 2023. Their care for her is excellent, myself and my dad feel very grateful that she is safe and so well cared for. Her decline has been rapid but the staff are always there to ease our fears and listen to our concerns. Now and again we have experienced
minor issues but when highlighted to the unit manager these have been rectified. We are always met with a warm welcome on Skylark. We feel blessed.

It is our first experience of using this type of establishment. Despite it being at a traumatic time it was made easier by the friendly staff and excellent care given. Time has shown that our choice of care home has been the right one and we will be pleased for this to be a home during the coming days.

My husband was admitted to the home from the hospital just before Christmas which was upsetting for our family but he has settled in well and loves his 'room with a view'. The staff are caring and obliging and he now regards this as his home and is happy. A great relief for us. Our thanks to all the
staff.

The care home itself is very clean. There are many rooms and the lounge is very cosy. The dining room is spacious and clean. The meals are freshly made, tasty and well presented and the garden is extremely spacious. The staff are kind and friendly and greeted me warmly.

My Mother was recently admitted to Freelands Croft Care Home, after two weeks in the home the transformation witnessed in my Mother is amazing, she is very happy there, loves the interactions with the other residents and has settled better than we could have imagined. She is clearly well cared for,
she is always clean, tidy and well-presented, it is evident that there is care and consideration when it comes to getting her dressed and ready for the day, she enjoys the daily activities and seems really content.
The staff are all really friendly, helpful and attentive to my Mother's needs, she suffers with dementia and had previously been cared for at home, being in the home has given her a spring back in her step and her mental well-being has increased significantly as a consequence of her interactions with others in the home both residents and staff. I would highly recommend the home.

My aunt has been at Freelands Croft Care Home for about 17 months and is as contented as someone can be in this situation. The staff are lovely and my aunt is very attached to some of them. They also make every effort to keep me informed of any issues. It is a weight off my mind knowing that she is

It's very disappointing that every time I visit there seems to be personal belongings missing most recently shoes, a dress, and shower gel which can't be found. In the past three nighties three duvet covers and pillowcases and two clocks.
On many occasions her bed has not been made or she's been on
the bed with no sheets. I've visited to find stained bedding etc whilst she is still using it.
I do feel that more effort could be made to give her a better quality of life by making sure she doesn't stay in bed all day, her curtains get opened to lighten the room plus food seems to left in her room all morning which is a bit unsightly and needs to be removed earlier.
I am generally happy with the care she does receive and I do appreciate all that the staff do however I did need to put the above forward for you to look at.

Mum initially went to Freelands Croft Care Home for respite care and when she needed to go somewhere permanently, shortly after, she asked to go back there. She loves all of the staff, they are all wonderful and treat all the residents with great care and respect. Mum's room is spacious and clean and
the gardens are lovely. The food is very good, she eats well and has her papers delivered every day which she enjoys reading. They have lots of entertainment organised and Mum particularly loves the animal visits and singalongs.
Thank you the manager for maintaining such a lovely, happy and safe environment.

Perfectly acceptable care home with good overall practices. Room for improvement especially around the menu choices and meal times. Not all residents have the same needs but they are all treated the same instead of by their specialist needs especially those on short-term/respite stays. Residents are
not given enough interaction based on their abilities.

For the past two years, Freelands has worked very closely with us to provide our dad with the best collaborative care and support dad's stay at Freelands. This has provided our mum with peace of mind that all of dad's needs are fully met.
Over recent days dad's health deteriorated rapidly, and this
is when the Freelands team have excelled even more than usual. The care and compassion shared to our dad and our wider family has been awe-inspiring. The team have gone over and above with their support. We would like to extend our gratitude to the whole team at Freelands as we continue the journey.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.565)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.565) out of 10 for Freelands Croft Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 26 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.565 for Freelands Croft Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (217 Excellents x 5) + (67 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (11 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 306 Ratings = 4.565
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Freelands Croft Care Home is based on 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 64 registered maximum number of service users is 12.8, which has been reached with 24 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
