We needed to find a care home for our dad for end-of-life care. Upon walking into Kentford Manor, we knew it was the one. We have not been disappointed. The respect, dignity and care for not only our dad, but his family has been second to none. The manager and her team are outstanding. A huge thank
you to the carers and nurses there, a nurse and a carer stood out in not only their professionalism, but caring attitude, but the whole team there are all great. A huge thank you from us for making this difficult time so much easier knowing he was safe and well cared for.

I am very impressed by the quality of care here. The carers here are very caring. They get to know the residents’ natures, and their likes and dislikes very quickly. You do feel that they love the residents and want them to be treated as they would want their own family treated. It has a warm, friendly
atmosphere and for both my mother and her family it is as if we belong to one big family here. The activities’ leaders are excellent and lead a wide variety of activities. There could perhaps be more of them for such a big home.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Reviews Team at Kentford ManorThank you so much for taking the time to write your review – we’re so pleased to see your high scores and read your lovely comments, particularly about the care and team at Kentford Manor. For activities, we do have a wonderful activity team, but we feel lifestyle should be a whole home approach, so make sure that everyone can join in to help, and enjoy interacting with the residents, as part of their work day too. Of course, if there are any particular activities or trips out you feel your mother would enjoy, just let us know and we’ll be happy to help. Thank you again for your review – we really do appreciate it.

My mother has been at Kentford Manor for almost a year. The home is lovely, modern, bright and spotlessly clean. All the staff are extremely friendly, helpful and caring. There are daily activities led by co-ordinators who provide a stimulating programme of activities, Mum particularly loves the weekly
musical entertainment. Relatives are always made to feel welcome, with coffee, tea and cakes always available in the bistro. If you are looking for a safe and happy home, then Kentford Manor is the place. Mum calls her carers ‘her friends’.

We were very concerned to find the right care home for Mum and were recommended Kentford by the hospital after Mum was having issues with falling and her mobility. We are so pleased with Kentford. Mum seems happier than she has been in years. The team are hard-working and friendly, the home feels fresh
and well-maintained. The activities for the residents planned by the staff member responsible enhance Mum's life and she loves to take part. After a difficult decision, it’s turned out for the best and nice to see her content and well looked after.

I have always found Kentford Manor and its staff welcoming and very professional, it is a clean, warm and secure place. The resident has been able to settle in well by having a comfortable and spacious room with some of her possessions around her. She enjoys taking part in the organised events. Visitors
are always made to feel at home.

Overall a very high standard of care, from the nursing staff, management and reception. The only issue we had was the slow administration of our refund from head office which is clearly separate from the care aspect in the home itself.

My wife and I attended the summer party, it was just a lovely afternoon of entertainment and fantastic food. It was uplifting to see the residents' faces light up when all the old songs were sung. The deputy manager and the team did the residents and guests proud.

My mother has been at Kentford Manor since last November, when respite care was urgently required. Kentford's response was great. Since then she has become a permanent resident.
In truth, the staff are still getting to know my mother and her 'little ways'. Whilst she appears settled, the reintroduction
of the activities staff will be a 'quality of life' change, with something to keep her involved and entertained. Management open and listens to concerns. The home is clean and the garden accessible. I applaud all the staff and their patience, their professionalism and smiles. I hope Care UK recognise their commitment accordingly.

From the minute we walked into Kentford Manor to view it for our mum to stay for respite we knew this place was special.
The atmosphere and the friendliness of the staff was incredible.
We have now been at Kentford Manor for two months as our mum decided to stay and I have to say the level of care
hasn't changed from the first day.
Management are always around to check if things are ok. The staff on the desk always welcomes us with a smile and would drop whatever she is doing to help if you need it. The carers and nurses are busying around but always have time to chat and fill you in on how the day has been for Mum.
The food is amazing, Mum says it's so fresh and tasty. Lashings of gravy and the puddings are like she used to make at home so that's very special.
Kentford Manor is clean and bright with details of care for the residents being the most important part of their day.

My aunt recently arrived at Kentford Manor from another residential home. The staff couldn't have been more welcoming when she arrived. She was made to feel very welcomed and at home immediately.
I have since visited on a few occasions and each time she has been much happier than in her previous home.
Other family members have also visited her and said the same things about my aunt and the home. They too were very impressed with the care she was receiving and said how well she looked.
She is looking very well, very happy and eating well.
All the staff are incredibly caring and nothing seems to be too much trouble for them.

The only negative I have is when short-staffed and agency staff are on, some things are overlooked e.g. change of pads and not always around if a resident is in need of help. Since my mum has been a resident here, she has improved in all aspects of her life. She's eating three meals a day, joining in
the activities, is happier and talking. I cannot fault the staff at Kentford Manor at all.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Reviews Team at Kentford ManorThank you for writing a review for us. I am glad to see Mum has made progress in all aspects after moving to Kentford Manor. However, I am sorry to hear that you feel that sometimes things are overlooked. I want to reassure you that we are never short on team members and always have enough people on hand to care for all residents safely and to our high standards day and night. There are times, such as due to unexpected colleague illness, where we may have to call on agency staff – however, we would always try to see if our own team members might be able to cover before doing this, and, if using agency staff, we always employ individuals who already know the home and residents where we can. Thank you again for your comments and excellent scores, and please don’t hesitate to speak to the manager or team at the home if you have any comments or suggestions.

My mother is bedbound and does not interact as she is unsociable and does not use any of the facilities. I visit daily so am well qualified to comment on her care.
Basically, whilst I believe she has no quality of life whatsoever, and she wishes to die, the staff look after her and she is kept comfortable,
warm and fed although something of a pointless exercise.
Kentford do the job - at cost - which my sister and I do not want.

I am more than pleased with the care my brother has received at Kentford Manor.
Because of the nature of his illness, he gets very afraid when moved from A to B or turned whilst being given personal care. The fact that his hearing has completely gone does make him feel very vulnerable
However, if
I am there at a time when he is being nursed I have noticed an improvement because he is being reassured and is made to feel safe.
He does feel safe now he has settled and is always pleased to see the carers and nurses that have the most contact with him. Thank you to each and every one of you at Kentford Manor for the most brilliant care.

My mother feels safe and well cared for at Kentford Manor. The staff are very caring and treat residents with kindness and compassion. The meals are well prepared and served in a stylish dining room. A programme of activities is circulated weekly, led by two coordinators. The presence of nursing staff

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.745) out of 10 for Kentford Manor is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 24 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.745 for Kentford Manor is calculated as follows: ( (235 Excellents x 5) + (25 Goods x 4) + (11 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 271 Ratings = 4.745
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Kentford Manor is based on 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 88 registered maximum number of service users is 17.6, which has been reached with 23 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I started working at Care UK in 2014 through an agency for Glastonbury Court. I’m proud to have worked my way up, having started in the domestic team, then moved into care and a managerial position as a residential lead at Davers Court, followed by Home Manager roles at Mildenhall Lodge and now Kentford Manor.

I see managing a care home as a privilege. I am very passionate about my role and doing the best for the home, residents, relatives and colleagues. I believe that being open and honest, relatable, reliable and approachable to all groups is very important to achieve the best outcomes for all.

I love working at Kentford Manor because of the challenge of my new role, and I’m excited to build new relationships with the team and, most of all, the lovely residents and families here.

To be successful in this role, you need to have patience, empathy, and an understanding of different residents, staff, and family members. You should be polite, always be there to listen and try and understand every situation through different eyes.

The best part of my job is seeing the residents happy, having fun and being able to live their lives the best they can.

A big passion of mine is football, and I love to spend time with my daughter. We love to watch her dad play football all weekend.
